Hands on buzzers... Steve Kindon was part of a trio that made FA Cup history. What was it? did he play the castanets? 🙂 Possibly ,but that's not the answer LIS.

Best for... Astafjevs, his vision.....he once played a brilliant through ball that when it bounced, it vertically held up (like a backspin) away at Wycombe, I was in awe....no one could keep up with his skill. (Surely the best has to be Bradford or Dix?) Best against... Steve McManamon away to Liverpool. Unplayable. I think jocky is still spinning!?(Surely the best has to be George Best? ....if he did play against us?) I think that would be Steve Cross. As Epping said, it wasn't until he swapped wings in the second half that he came into the game.

In 1970 ex Liverpool star Jimmy Melia was player manager of Aldershot and when they came to Eastville for a cup game he single-handedly played Rovers off the park without ever seeming to move out of the centre circle.

Steve Kindon playing for Wolves at Eastville. He totally destroyed us when they won 5-1. Also Stan Collymore at Twerton where he made Steve Yates look like a snail. Good call on Stan. But he was even better in the away game. 0-0 after about an hour. Then proceeded to rip Rovers apart with a brilliant late hat-trick. I don't think he ever really fulfilled his early promise.

Well that's my take on things. And yes, it was a bewildered Steve Cross.

Hmm,off the top of my head.... Terry Cooper for Rovers. Kevin Keegan opposition. This may change with some thought. Pretty sure Keegan only played against us for Southampton in Fa cup that 3 1 defeat at the Dell ? Convinced he did not play against us for Scunthorpe or Liverpool. Terry Cooper should real class for Rovers as player manager. Lookman for Charlton against Rovers was a night to remember at the Mem.

He switched wings at half time and ran poor Steve Cross ragged. For me best seen: Micky Barrett for the Gas, Stan Collymore at Southend in 93.

Who's left spinning at 1.03? We doubled up and it still didn't work!?

I saw that game. it was a replay at home v 4th Division Aldershot, who knocked us out for the second year running. The winners had been drawn to play Liverpool in the 3rd round. Jimmy was a former Liverpool player and he was very excited at the final whistle, at the prospect of playing against them. Liverpool beat Aldershot 1-0 at Anfield.

Nice distraction from these nightmare times. Best Rovers players for me, would be either Alfie Biggs, Harold Jarman, as we were lucky enough to see them star for many seasons, whereas a lot of modern players, move on after a short time. Would go for Biggs, as he was a great player in the 50s side, then after he returned from Preston, after a season away, he cemented his status. 37 goals in one season in the old Div 3! Anyone remember a mid 60s goal he scored one night against Bournemouth? Honourable mentions for Walters, Lambert, Stewart,Nigel Martyn. As for players who played against Rovers, agree about Collymore, I saw both those games against Southend, and we couldn’t cope with him in the away game. Saw Geoff Hurst score a classic near post volley in a 3-3 League Cup game at Eastville, that made me think he had something about him! Who was to think he would score a World Cup final hat trick at the end of that season? Would have to say, that the player who I feared more than anyone, probably because he played against us so often, was John Atyeo. He was the City’s answer to Geoff Bradford, big, strong, great header of the ball, quick, and surprisingly nimble. He was a nightmare, and it was a great day when he was in their side when we hammered them 4-0 in one derby match. My memory was that he was quiet in that match, but I do remember he smashed a first time volley near the end, but Bernard Hall made a miraculous reaction save, that capped a perfect day.

For Rovers - Nigel Martyn. Or if an outfield player Mickey Barrett.
For the opposition - Craig Bellamy.
- Funny thing is, until that game we played against West Ham I hadn't thought much of Craig Bellamy. He must have been coming to the end of his playing days, and still ran the show. Always wanted to be on the ball. Picking it up from the back 4 and then being at the centre of things when they were attacking - a real box to box performance. It wasn't until I saw him play live that I appreciated how good he was. The rest of the West Ham team seemed average and he was the difference between the sides. To think he played in our schoolboy sides!
- I was going to say a fella who scored a fantastic hat-trick against us at The Mem (10 years ago or so?), and we gave him a standing ovation as he was substituted. A few years later he signed for City, but never really got a chance there. Can't remember his name, nor the team he was playing for at the time. But it was an absolutely scintillating performance, and I'd be surprised if he had as good a game again.

You are possibly talking about Jamal Campbell-Ryce from 26.10.2002, we lost at home to Leyton Orient 1-2, i can remember that standing ovation on 88 mins when he was taken off. He only scored the one goal that day, JC-R played for 14 teams in his career, Orient had a certain Ciaran Toner and Kevin Nugent in their side.

Only scored the 1 then. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you. Unless there was someone else scored a hat-trick against us. I remember a long-range shot towards the away end he scored. Very similar to Linesy v Cardiff. Thanks for correcting me.
