We are loaning out our best players? Else they are not our players.
What is it you know, and who are our best players?

Does this mean that we will have new best players?

I'll bet that if someone offered Hani £13m they could own our entire club, the stadium, Tom's plastic bing-bong boxes, the whole rotten lot!

Did Tom refuse to sign a longer contract - knowing that at the end of 18 months he was highly likely to get himself a better wage on a free transfer? I guess the only defence against this is to put 'valued players' on rolling 3 year deals on 'decent' money. I would suggest players would have to EARN this, and 3 year deals would be rare. This puts into sharp focus the idiocy of putting untried Tom Nichols on a 3 year deal. Big punt. Major disaster for DC.

By staying he was part of a defence that kept us up. How much is that worth?

Bad form this, Gareth Taylor was out of contract knowing full well Crystal Palace we’re coming in for him, he signed a new contract to make sure the club got a fee for him.

I got the impression from Lockyer's comments about wishing he left 2 years ago that he didn't feel he owed the club anything. I wonder if there were some unfulfilled promises on being allowed to move on.

That kind of loyalty is admirable but for Lockyer, signing a new contract could end the interest altogether, forest were reluctant to come in for him last summer when he only had 1 year left on his contract. He's earnt a move and in my opinion will be hard to replace but replace him we shall.

As I see it, Lockyer didn't cost us a huge fee, he came and played for what I imagine were reasonable but not extortionate wages, did a good job, then left. Not unlike many of us in 'normal' working life. I can't really see how he owes us anything.

Not unlike many of us in 'normal' working life. I can't really see how he owes us anything. I posted the same on the other forum. His youth team colleague Matt Macey left us for £100,000 without playing a game. Locks has left on a free giving us two promotions and 283 first team appearances. For me Locks is well within his rights to leave on a free, the club's going nowhere and has shown his colleagues little loyalty.

It feels like it's a Catch 22 situation. If you have a player who is great, he will only sign a short term deal, knowing that he will get a free transfer and better wages by running down his contract. If you have a player who knows they are relatively sh*t, and they don't back themselves to find a Club at the end of the contract - they will sign a deal for as long as possible. Tom Nichols 3 year deal. Tom Lockyer 18 months deal. It's known as the Tom Paradox. QED.

Maybe everyone was expecting him to go in that or the following window, summer 2018. Cannot imagine a contract not being till July therefore must have been an extension.
