Let’s say the rumours are true and the owners are cold footed about the investment needed to move us forward.
As I see it, our asset is out fan base which has massive potential.
Owners have come and gone but the same issue remained:
We have shed loads of debt.
Any investment is minus £12M on day one.
Until Sergei Abramobicikov finds us, we will always struggle because of the millstone of debt sinking us to the fetid depths of the stagnant waters of mediocrity.
So, could the answer be to go bust and reform, debt free?
With 9,000 potential gates, and almost guaranteed 5,000, I think we would absolutely sail up the leagues back to pro football.
I’m not saying we should, it’s a discussion point.
What do you think?
I guess the ground is the issue which would be lost if we were wound up.
Also, I assume we have to play up leagues from Park football, but how did City do it? They never went back to bostick glue premier?

We will always be “rag bag Rovers” or the “club with so much potential”. The present owners don’t appear to be the messiahs we all hoped for. I understand evolution but a few little things done around the stadium is not evolution, it is plastering over the cracks, Unless they move forward with the training facilities in the next few months, I think we can say they want out. Who to replace them though? We don’t have many rich fans (Higgs was pretty wealthy but not wealthy enough to sustain a club like Rovers for long and not in the league of SL). So we would need investment from outside. In reality, who would want to take on a League One club with debts as high as the one asset it has? So “rag bag Rovers”it is then.

Are we -£12m? Most clubs throughout the league lose money its not just us. I just listened to an interview with the notts county chairman who has really turned the club around but he pointed out that the club were still losing £1.8m per year.

As much as there's alot of understandably negative vibes around, I'm gonna try to shift it 1% to a bit positive.
Obviously our biggest asset is land and property.
But, just tap into a slither of our fanbase and we have some very clever, practical and monied supporters. This too can be utilised as an asset. I wonder if there is a way you can bring the support base in as a part-owner? Can we tap in bounty of Bristol businesses, with it's diversity (just look at 1883 membership, it's deliberate all are local companies and not national chains)?
I see there is much to play for for being self sufficient.
Also, the last two years of Wael & Co has seen an upturn in on pitch form. We have a brilliant home record in his tenure. We've made more than £1m in transfer fees from nothing. We have enviable corporate facilities at the Mem, exploiting usually 3-500 every home match that rakes in £thousands. Our stadium is hired out more Mon-Fri for functions and seminars than ever. Even on non match days we are utilising our assets to maximise revenue. Our home attendance averages are highest in modern history. Silly thing, but true.....everyone around me at Mem has a smile on their face. We are enjoying our football.
Ok, so some things are slightly off topic from op, but there are many things to be proud of and optimistic about.

How does our fan base have massive potential? We have financial advisors/solicitors/construction ceo even politicians etc that certainly take an active interest in us. Why not try to get them involved in communal way as advisory if nothing else?

Sure. What? A couple of hundred, tops?? If Ken Loach can get £300k for lowly (but respectable) Bath City, I wonder what we could achieve? It's only a concept. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-37481885

From someone who wants to remain anonymous, they made enquiries about outside investment and were told there was no interest in this at all. Make of that what you will. It all goes over my head if honest. I’m not clever enough to understand it

Bristol City we’re wound up and started again from scratch. This is no longer allowed to happen so if the current rules had been in place in 1982 City would have fallen to the lower reaches of the pyramid.

How does our fan base have massive potential? Depends what for. Coronary disease: massive potential. Footballing success: probably less.

So, could the answer be to go bust and reform, debt free? [... H]ow did City do it? That Bristol City performed such a corrupt and unethical act when they formed in 1982 is as good a reason as I can think of for saying 'no' to your suggestion. We are better than them. Long may it continue.

Long may it continue. Seriously, I didn’t even believe in my own suggestion and I agree with this. I just wonder if swallowing the shyt and doing it would be worth it if we were champ, debt free in a few years. We would lose what it is to be a gashead in the process so I conclude disagreeing with my own post. UTG. We are more than a football team. We are an idea and you cant kill an idea. Conference season proved that. RTID.
