Why is it so bleeding hard for some people to accept the fact that UWE is dead, kaput, bereft of life, gone to meet its maker? Because it is bleeding obvious that the UWE still think there is something to discuss. (I am aware that the current planning consent is about to expire. That does not stop any future initiative). Steve West, Vice-Chancellor at UWE Bristol, said: "UWE Bristol has not given up on this hugely important project. We have been and remain committed to delivering a new stadium and were disappointed to hear from Dwane Sports that they wish to bring negotiations over the proposed stadium at UWE Bristol to a close. We have always wanted the stadium project as part of our vision for the University and wider Bristol community masterplan for the Frenchay Campus. We still believe it would bring great benefits to the University, local community and the regional economy". They’re desperate for a car park, which they can’t build without an enabling development. So, they would say that wouldn’t they...

To a certain degree I am glad that there is the 'control' there is shown by some members of the al Qs. From the beginning, although I was extremely grateful the club was rescued from the quagmire it was heading, I was puzzled why Bristol Rovers was chosen by rich Jordanians to buy, a potentially new stadium was probably one reason. It's so so easy to over-stretch and -spend, and clubs end up in dire situations, administration, points loss, relegation... Many argue a period of mid-table seasons would not harm the club, if the infrastructure is gradually improved; lots of things have been added/changed in the club, but not the massive developments expected by the fans from new rich owners.

Personally - I would like to see new owners come in, to proper due diligence, and have another crack at the UWE. Dwane Sports + The Memorial Stadium = stagnation, not evolution. I have not given up hope on UWE and still think it represents a "once in a generation" opportunity for Bristol Rovers. The numbers might not have stacked up for Dwane Sports - they might do for another owner. I still can't get my head around Wael shutting the door firmly shut on any future negotiations with UWE (we have gone way past games of brinkmanship). The only two reasons that make sense are that 1. The two sides were a million miles away from an agreement with no hope whatsoever of resolution. (Which does not fit with the Steve Hamer quote about "the landing lights are on"). Or 2. Dwane Sports could not fund it and pulled the plug.

stagnation, not evolution. About time we had a motto for the BRFC badge. Our man Eppers has found it there.

Thanks for that, you've made my day Can some clever clogs turn 'Stagnation Is Merely An Aspiration' into Latin, then design us a new club badge with that emblazoned around Campy the Pirate?

This puts the kybosh on any chances of conferencing or hotel facilities the Al Qadi family may have thought possible.

Does anyone actually have any proper knowledge/evidence of what is being spouted here? The owners buggaring off, selling the mem, mounting the club with debts etc...?! Or is it just blind panic & guesswork?
Just wondering like.

Maybe the UWE complex could involve a church as well - but that would be more of an ecumenical matter.

They are mounting debt at an alarming rate (which they may, or may not write off). So yes - mostly blind panic and guesswork. In the absence of anything logical or believable issuing forth from the mouths of Wael and Steve "Crazy Gang" Hamer - it's all we've got.

Swiss confirmed the debt, and that it's secured against the stadium, Wael confirmed the charge against the stadium. There's an overgrown field next to the M5. Someone jumped on something unpleasant said about a club official in double quick time, nobody, so far, has anything to say about rumours that a contractor has been paid late. Very poor practice when you are about to send out a big project to tender I would have thought? It's not all guesswork.
