So a story on a "footy" site comes out, (no one on here knows if it has any truth and every one on here "jumps" on it). Two things to remember. Why would UWE want a stadium, and the plan in the South Gloucester development clearly states that it has to be a 20,000 + stadium. If they want this to happen then they are going to have to obtain planning permission, which as we know could take years. or it might take minutes, adapting the existing permission to their design and running it past a compliant council...

I guess that is why there would be talks with the council to see of it could be done. Perhaps UWE are being proactive where as we are stringing the original plan out. Maybe we could have spoke to Sainsburys and agreed an offer to cancel the contract and looked.to have sold the Mem to someone else.

The original concept was suggested by the Vice Chancellor of UWE to NH, it did NOT originate from NH.
I therefore assume that at that time UWE wanted a stadium built on their spare land.

Apparently they still do.

As a default response, that sort of requires that every previous hint that all was not as we were led to believe proved to be unfounded, everything's gone as promised, building started at the end of May 2014, and is now 4 months from completion. Oh, and that 'footy' site was the one that said the imminent redevelopment of the Mem for student flats was off, we weren't moving to Cheltenham for the following season, and anyone going to view Whaddon Road and pick their spot the following day, as organised by the club, would be wasting their time.

The chancellor or possible vice-chancellor is on record s saying would I rather build a stadium or a new business school of course I would build a new business school. Perhaps NH isn't the only person who doesn't tell the whole truth. Still I absolutely hope UWE build a stadium, I also absolutely hope we don't sign a contract with them before it is built.

Or perhaps somebody else with sporting interests in the city has stepped in behind Higgs's back? There is a rumour that UWE has exited their agreement with Higgs so something very different could be being planned for the site?

If we see another design produced with red seats we'll all know who has 'stepped in' !

But that isn't what Vital is suggesting, he's still talking about a 15K stadium, unless Bristol Rugby plan a return to the north of Bristol what other sports team requires such a large stadium. Whilst Pantsdown as more money than sense I can't see him spending £20m just to spite us?

I don't think for a minute that Bristol Rugby will move from Ashton Gate but I do think that the plans for the site will change especially if UWE have exited the contract with Higgs. The next week or two should reveal what is planned.

In the same way the UWE for us with a 22000 seat capacity was always mythical and unnecessary so is a 15000 seater for the uni on the basis they might get a tenant. It's the Mem for us for the foreseeable future...and useless lump of lard Higgs is at least he's our useless lump of lard, and without him we're finished unless someone comes in and buys us, so we may as well be thankful it's in his interest to continue bankrolling us.

But the way we're going we also finished with him, unless we get a big cash injection within the next few months how are we going to pay off the Wonga loan? Can anybody answer that question?

Maybe they plan to start offering sport based scholarships like the USA, I believe Henbury Gas mentioned an American company being interested, let's face it even high schools in the USA have stadiums that would put the Mem to shame.

Not sure about buying it back, we wouldn't own it in the first place. This is an eastville situation waiting to happen. Way out for higgs though, can flog the mem and get his cash back and leave us effectively with nothing. So true. I guess this is the end game that so many of us thought was the most *realistic* conclusion considering the chumps running our football club. Far too many fans naively claimed that "Higgs was a Gashead" & "Higgs knows what he's doing so don't question!" but when it all comes down to it we are where we are right now because of him. And it doesn't look good no matter who is spinning it or how it is spun.

I thought it was us who had the planning permission for the UWE, in which case the University will have to apply for their own surely?

Planning permission was awarded to the site and if UWE wanted to they could build it to the plans approved for Higgs's application.

At this rate, a quick whip round in The Welly before a game and we should be able to buy the club and have bus fare home left over.
