Statement from the Chairman Last week I confirmed that it was extremely unlikely that we would be able to complete the build of the UWE Stadium before the start of the 2015/16 season. This means we will probably not be able to occupy the stadium until the start of the 2016/17 season, as the Football Authorities prevent clubs from moving grounds during a season. However, this does not mean the build will be delayed by 12 months; we still intend to get onsite and start building later this year. The delay to the project to date has come from the Judicial Review hearing the subsequent appeal and the English Heritage application, and has cost the club a lot of time and money. It is extremely frustrating that these small minority groups have been able to have such a massive impact on this project and associated projects that will bring so many benefits to the local area. Outstanding contractual agreements between all parties have been on hold since the JR proceedings got underway last autumn, but we are now in the process of addressing these agreements. He must be a very frustrated man. These delays caused by in particular the JR and review are incredibly destructive. In reality they never had a chance but have ensured both a delay and a huge cost to Rovers and the local economy.
Let's hope soon a definitive date for starting can be announced. The timescale should ensure that if it does finally go ahead we get it totally right without a mad rush as is currently happening in Brazil.

what was hard about that ? Nothing, you'd think. Nice to have clarification, but I wish he'd also told us whether or not the SOS have made their decision or not re Jamie Carstairs. For the avoidance of doubt, it would be good to have it in black and white. |

On the face of it that looks great, but it's not quite what he was quoted as having said last week, is it? Why is it always like this with Rovers, nothing ever quite makes sense, and when things don't make sense that's usually because you aren't being told everything you need to know  |

To be fair though the project has been delayed because of TRASH and Carstairs. This is about the clearest thing Rovers have said on the subject.
It will start and it will be built for the start of 16/17. Really there are no excuses now for it not to be built. They have given themselves time to build it to the top standard they want it to be as assured to us by Henbury and Toteend
The questions on how all the money comes together remain though
Time to deliver. No hiding places now

Not every project gets scuppered by sandal wearing tree huggers with well trimmed grey beards, but that's not the point, why aren't all the contracts ready pending the outcome of the latest stalling tactic? He can't even clarify the position (which he hasn't really, all he's done is said something different to what he's quoted as having said last week whilst still managing not to commit to anything) without lashing out and blaming people. So, the start date is when exactly? He won't say, ''we still intend to get onsite and start building later this year''. Doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever. It looks to me like it's being made up as they go along. Sorry if that's ''board bashing'' |

Check the record and if you do and we go by that standard,this Nick Higgs statement is quite likely a 'playing for time tactic' (see PessimistGas post) and if anything it clarifies there are now big problems and the UWE won't happen. This of course could be wrong and the build will commence in say 2 months or so,but if I was to bet my shilling would go on no building work happening 2014. |

Although I am cynical about the whiole project now but if we're not being fed nonsense,then I very much wish Nick Higgs and team the best of luck with it all.
As a fc Chairman you have to say his record is poor,but against the protesats groups and all the rest of it it looks (from the outside)like a very good effort.The frustration levels must be off the scale eg,but apparently (if it's as we're led to believe) we're quite close to the build actually happening.
I wouldn't bet on it,but if.....

Sorry everyone they're pulling a fast one. We don't need nor ever will need a 22000 seat stadium, so why would we build one. Yet another case of the BOD winding us up over the mythical "New Stadium" For the younger members of the forum it's been going on since the mid 70s. |

Sorry if that's ''board bashing'' As another poster has mentioned the SOS has still to deal with the appeal about the refusal of listing (today's Bristol Post) so it is still not possible to give a definite start date. Meanwhile the usually reliable KITR on OTIB, says that Rovers are continuing with the process of meeting planning conditions, an exercise that usually takes about 3 months. I think your pessimism is misplaced. |
