Not every project gets scuppered by sandal wearing tree huggers with well trimmed grey beards, but that's not the point, why aren't all the contracts ready pending the outcome of the latest stalling tactic? He can't even clarify the position (which he hasn't really, all he's done is said something different to what he's quoted as having said last week whilst still managing not to commit to anything) without lashing out and blaming people. So, the start date is when exactly? He won't say, ''we still intend to get onsite and start building later this year''. Doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever. It looks to me like it's being made up as they go along. Sorry if that's ''board bashing'' As another poster has mentioned the SOS has still to deal with the appeal about the refusal of listing (today's Bristol Post) so it is still not possible to give a definite start date. Meanwhile the usually reliable KITR on OTIB, says that Rovers are continuing with the process of meeting planning conditions, an exercise that usually takes about 3 months. I think your pessimism is misplaced. It's realism rather than pessimism, based on the track record of Rovers' BoD getting anything right. These are the people who wasted the golden legacy left by the team of 2007 and have taken us out of the entire League, and have racked up record losses doing it remember. They have had plenty of time to deal with contractural and planning technicalities already. I hope you are right and the stadium is built, on time and at a price that means the FC are debt free, it's wholly owned and every penny generated by the site goes back to the FC.

It today's evening post it says Carstairs said he is asking sajid Javid to review the decision. Javid said " people have the right to appeal as they wish. It should be dealt with in the proper way. It is not for me to say whether the appeal is likely to succeed" I'd go for no building work ever, it's rather like starting a self build on the basis you're going to win the lottery and pay for it all. Sorry everyone they're pulling a fast one. We don't need nor ever will need a 22000 seat stadium, so why would we build one. Yet another case of the BOD winding us up over the mythical "New Stadium" For the younger members of the forum it's been going on since the mid 70s. Defo smell Poo here..

just don't get some people, you scream out about no info on the new build .all cloaks and daggers. then when you get a straight forward statement that things will not happen till later, gives you the reasons, and still you wish to look "inside the statement to look for something that isn't there,.some people need to take a holiday me thinks

Assuming the SoS are still to make a final decision, which is far from clear, why the hell are they taking so long Eric Pickes seemed to make a quick decision or did the JR Judge surely it can't the SoS that long to throw out Carstairs' ludicrous appeal??
My fear now is NH will wait and see how we get on in the Conference early this season and if we don't start off strong he'll then scrap the UWE on the basis it could take years to get back in the league.

I am sick of being lied to, wound up, spun, ****ed over and abused. Why do we now need a 22000 seat stadium, we're a non league club FFS and the latest club statement says "someday, one day, tell 'em Thursday but not which Thursday" Its not me that needs a holiday "methinks"...funny choice of language it is 2014 after all.

We are far closer to owning a modern stadium of our own than at any point since we sold Eastville in 1940. If we have no more ambition than to remain a conference club then the Mem will probably do fine. But if we want to look at Reading, Swansea, Cardiff and Hull for instance and think maybe, just maybe, we could do that too, then we need the UWE. You might be tired of false dawns, I am sure most of us are, but I am tired of watching Rovers in third rate stadia. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and no matter how badly the football side of it is being run, it is an opportunity we have to seize.

Higgs isn't now talking about those being the reasons for the latest delay though is he. So you sit on your hands and do nothing whilst the JR and the obviously doomed to failure stalling tactic of trying to get the stadium classified as a War Memorial play out? I'll answer my own question. Not if you are serious about getting the new stadium built ASAP you don't. As someone said earlier today, it should only be a couple of phone calls to get Higgs and reps from UWE and Sainsbury's all in the same place at the same time, joint statement, no double talk or spin, make it clear that everyone is still 100% committed to getting things completed and that the numbers add up and instantly the speculation and doubt will evaporate.

But we dont need a big stadium...am I the only one to get it. We need a team capable of avoiding relegation from the Conference Prem.

Good for you Vic, neither of us can remember not being in the FL. We need to concentrate on a return to the FL not a mythical "New Stadium" i think all the mythical "New Stadium" talk cost us FL status.

It might well be a doomed tactic, but Sainsbury's are not going to release the money while there is any chance of the stadium buildings being listed. That makes it impossible to finish off some contracts because the timescale is unknown. I don't know of any examples of Sainsbury's making joint statements with football clubs. They seem to like to keep an extremely low profile on planning applications wherever possible. While it's a good idea in theory I don't think Sainsbury's would be interested.

Your a rose tinter, I feel he has far away as ever, don't forget only a fews years ago we were choosing seats at Cheltenham thinking work was about to start. Our only hope now is Sainsbury's won't walk away and we have to build the UWE, although how we are going to finance it is beyond me if costs have risen by £1.5m.

Once again experts who really don't have a clue. A £200m commercial development where the first half Is dependant on the other half getting the green light at the same time is not likely to be a walk in the park.
We are getting ever closer, calm down, keep the faith, the only hope for a bright future is the UWE being built, it will go ahead!
