My perhaps inappropriate response to this news (apologies by the way) comes from months of pointing out at the Mem or on the old forum (inde) that Alfie Santos is a decent little player, who has what it takes to be a real asset on the right wing for Rovers.
As is often the case at Rovers many refuse to see this or are incapable.
It seems as long as a player can win a few tackles and is a 'big bloke' this will keep many Gasheads happy-ish Being local will forgive a multitude of sins for ages an all.
I think Ward and Higgs were awful last season, terrible football and Higgs apparently interfering. Higgs has been a disaster, you can wrap that statement up as you want, but it's a fact.
For years they've lied about 'team building',bringing in loads of loan signings without a chance of signing them on fixed. It's been a joke.
Now we see the more or less complete destruction of the squad.
No team/squad building. No plan,no vision.
Something else, the best way to watch/support this club is apparently to become completely 'indifferent' to the board, ignore them, forget about their arrogant incompetence ,otherwise you'll become very disappointed or perhaps banned.
Thing is,being being indifferent to it all is no way to support a football club.
Yes,i was wrong to say Santos leaving (he will leave,99% sure) is the fault of the board,i recognised a good footballer about a year ago,but oh no,according to many he's not good enough for Rovers and now he will almost certainly be gone.Another good un gone, the story of BRFC.This frustration spilt out into abit of 'board bashing' as the phrase goes.
The Rovers really are shambles.

If I was Santos this morning I would be contacting Muzzy for advice on how he should try and force this move though, as it could well be a chance of a life time for him.
As far as Lockyer being a better footballer I just wonder whether his game is better suited to Div 2 and that Santos is actually a better natural footballer, whether he has what it takes his another question.

It is down to Santos whether he leaves or not. Rovers can't stop him. He is out of contract here, all he has to do is accept Hull's offer. Hull made a 'bid' for him to avoid having to go to a tribunal, if Rovers reject all their 'bids' then Hull can and probably will take it to a tribunal and we'll get some money. On a side note, it does amaze me how people's opinion over a player can change the moment a Premier League club get involved. Richard Scudamore must feel like a God.

Well maybe the disappointment of losing (he will go,99% sure) another good un wouldn't be felt so keenly (by me at least) if the board had a run a good ship. there might be other good players coming through or we might be in a higher division, with a far better chance of holding onto the good uns longer.

I don't get the bit about premier league player. Hull have made an offer to take him into their, presumably, under 21 setup it's a token gamble for them awash with money. For Christ sake we had Henshall from man citeh last year but no-one in their right mind would be describing him as a premier league player.
Personally I've seen nothing in santos to go wow he's some player so I'd be letting him go to follow his dream & squeeze every penny I could out if the deal. If he really was that good there would be more than hull making noises about him. As to whether it is good for Santos personally well short term financially yes, medium to long term I'm not so sure he could end up as one of many that get crushed by the system never to be seen again at any level.

Forgive me if this has been clarified above, but I thought that Alefe had a one year contract from 2013 which is now expiring/expired. On the Retained List it indicated that he and Lee Brown had been offered new terms, which were being considered. The suggestion is that Hull's bid has been turned down, which suggests that he is not a free agent as I suspect.

Regardless of whether he is under contract or not, any club that wants to take him has to give us a fee as he has come through our youth ranks and we want to keep him (the contract we have offered him). Hull probably offered a ridiculously low amount of money to us and now it will go to a tribunal. Unless Alefe signs his new deal that is...

Santos is under 24, which means that if we offer him a contract and he turns it down to move elsewhere, we are entitled to compensation (under the Bosman ruling). Any compensation is usually sorted at a tribunal. Alternatively, the buying club (in this case Hull) can offer a settlement which means they wouldn't have to go to a tribunal. Rovers clearly feel they can either get more money from Hull directly, or get more money at a tribunal. So basically, Santos will be leave if he wants to leave, it's all down to how much compensation Rovers will get. EDIT: Read above my post

I thought EPPP had brought an end to Tribunals, but maybe they are still in force for players over a certain age that had come through academies. Nonetheless, thanks for the explanation.

EPPP is in relation to those young players that haven't signed pro contracts with the clubs they are at I beleive

No surprise to me.Alfie a decent winger,as was Broghammer. So for all those who slagged him off cause he wasn't a big bloke, well did you ever play football, what do you actually watch in a football match and what the flying f do you expect from a winger! Could'nt you see his ability to cross a ball without beating/going around the defender! His first touch is excellent! His distribution is intelligent. Obsessed with big players, sounds more like visiting bunch of groupies rather than anyone who reads the game! For fss sake! s*** club!

I, for one, think Santos is worth retaining. For all we know he can find himself in Conference level, with potentially worse teams, and develop enough to be an asset in L2 should we get promoted. Then maybe we can even sell him for a better price.
Like I said, worth a punt. He's a youngster after all, with plenty of pace and crossing in him. 'Course the guy's not Jesus Navas, but we don't know 'till we see him in action against Conference teams

True, I suppose if Santos signs a deal with Hull it doesn't matter if we dismissed their offer as it will go to a tribunal anyway, where no doubt Hull will produce their offer and say that's all they feel he's worth on the transfer market. Not sure where Conference clubs stand when it comes to tribunal hearings/transfer values?
