Think you are on the money UTG. I watched him in development games, up close and personal.
Until he strengthens up he will struggle. But I think there may be a footballer there.
As for Brog? Never make it. He couldn't cross a ball for god sake. Seen better wingers than him in youth team matches. And so did DC as well.

I saw him play over two years for the youth team and he improved massively in his second year. He is skilful, can cross with both feet and is a good finisher. He isn't the biggest but wingers aren't always - look at Cox for Leyton Orient one of the best or maybe the best wide player in L1 and 2. Alfie is a confident lad who likes to express himself on the pitch unfortunately he was playing in a struggling team and needed experienced players around him to guide him and encourage him. He can definitely make it in the game but in my view has to learn when to attack the full back and when to release quickly cos he can hang onto the ball a bit too long. I hope he stays with us - the best is yet to come.

its so depressing to me to hear people slagging off a young player like santos who is a good prospect.he had to play in games at a difficult time without much help frankly,i always thought we were a group of fans that encouraged young players and understood that being consistent and being young dont always mix,im not saying hes going to make it as a pro but i want to give him as much help in a very modest way that i can. why are people slagging off the board on a thread about a young winger? why not just do it on all the other slag the board off threads?

We are a non-league team with non-league players - fans should remember that... not technically true though really. our players have just finished a season in Lge 2 and have never played in the Conference. do we deserve to be in the Conf? yes. 46 games don't lie. are all our players rubbish? no do a lot of them need to sort themselves out / improve / grow a pair? yes.

In the youth team graduates you have one small jewel left in the crown but instead of preserving it and nurturing it you throw it in at the deep end and waste it.
John Ward talked sense last summer when he said the youngsters had to be brought in gradually and taken care of but within a few weeks he did a complete somersault and threw them to the wolves. He said he had been told the FFP rules meant no more signings could be made but what faith can you have in a managers words when he says "I have been told there is no room in the budget" ? If he really believes there is no room in the budget then that is what he says not "I am told".
Sorry if it's board bashing but much of the good work Nick Higgs did by persevering with the youth policy over a number of years has been undone because he was unwilling to come clean about the real reasons experienced players were not signed when they were needed.

No surprise to me.Alfie a decent winger,as was Broghammer. So for all those who slagged him off cause he wasn't a big bloke, well did you ever play football, what do you actually watch in a football match and what the flying f do you expect from a winger! Could'nt you see his ability to cross a ball without beating/going around the defender! His first touch is excellent! His distribution is intelligent. Obsessed with big players, sounds more like visiting bunch of groupies rather than anyone who reads the game! For fss sake! s*** club! I'm not going to slag a young player like Alefe off, and as other have written on here, there is some good analysis as to why he is a decent prospect, given time and coaching. BUT isn't your angry hyperbole just as bad as the angry hyperbole from the 'other wide', who say he's useless? isn't it several shades of grey rather than black or white? re - "Could'nt you see his ability to cross a ball without beating/going around the defender!" - um, if that's true then that makes him a pretty conventional midfielder rather than a winger. if he can;t beat his man (which I never really saw him do), then he will certainly HAVE to be very good at what you mention, as he won;t be in many teams otherwise.

im hoping that being "thrown in at the deep end" might help us next season,im hoping santos lockyear clarke and even harrison can use the experience in a positve way You are like Nick them MDKGB because he seems to do more hoping than thinking ? What I don't get is the amount of twisting and turning Rovers fans are willing to do to avoid awkward questions and to not have to rock the boat. When John Ward talked about having to bring the youngsters in slowly for their own good and for the club's good I think everyone was in agreement. It's just common sense that young players are blooded gradually to get accustomed to the job both mentally and physically. But when we had the complete about turn and the youngsters were thrown in at the deep end very few people said hold on a minute only a few months ago we agreed they should be brought in gradually and here we are now saying get them in the first team and let them sink or swim. The vast majority of nodding heads swallowed the very convenient FFP rule excuse and took great comfort in posting time and time again about "FFP rules, terrible thing, so unfair on Rovers, worse than TRASH, everyone is against us etc etc ". If there is one good thing that comes out of all this it should be that fans start to think carefully about what they are told by the club and consider it on it's merits rather than chop and change their opinions out of misguided loyalty to the club. My view is that Santos, Clarke, Harrison and even Lockyer have been done a disservice by being plunged into a badly unbalanced team with low morale and their agents are right to be looking around for alternative clubs. If the fans get a voice through BRISA and Mark's group I hope they challenge the board on these sort of issues and don't let them get away with talking in riddles and taking us for idiots.

Alfie Santos is a good example of the point I keep bringing up that we don't make the most of what we've got. Fans argue about how good or bad Santos is but he is not the finished article and he never will be at Rovers because by panicking and throwing him in at the deep end we've encouraged him, his agent and his family to think a move away is the best option. We could make a difference and make the board think twice about ruining assets like Alfie and letting them fade away, and eventually move away, if we challenged them more.

the board select a manager, the manager manages the team with the budget he has available? We'll have to agree to differ on that one MDKGB I believe the board of directors and particularly the Chairman set the whole tone of the club and the way they behave has an effect on everyone. If the Chairman "manages the manager" correctly and gets him inspired and motivated then the manager is more likely to inspire and motivate his players especially the younger ones who are easily influenced. But if the message from the top is "I employ a manager and let him manage" which really means "I'm paying you so just get on with it but watch what you are doing because it's my money" " then the manager soon gets demotivated and his frustration at the lack of direction transfers through to the coaches and players.

Exactly Swiss.

Exactly Swiss. It's so bl**dy simple Oldie but most people don't buy it. My Dad worked in a furniture factory at Yatton and I can still remember the way he talked about his foreman who they called "Snudge" after the character in the TV series Bootsie & Snudge. Even as an eight year old I could understand the respect my Dad had for that bloke and even though he hated doing the dirty jobs and the overtime he was inspired to do it and he did it to the best of his ability because that foreman gave him good leadership. Fast forward fifty years and you can walk into any McDonalds restaurant today and tell the type of person who is running it. The supervisor may only be 25 and the staff barely out of their teens but if the place is clean the employees smiling and the service good then you know he or she has been motivated to get the best out of the people working there. Whereas the same building with the same product can be a dirty, dull and inefficient hell hole simply because the supervisor takes the attitude "they are getting paid let them get on with it" and the franchise holder has the attitude 'I employ a manager and let him manage". It's all about leadership but it's risky pointing it out on here !!!

Why would Hull City want to sign a player that some people on this message board don't rate. Does this a) say anything about Hull City or b) say anything about a football message board?

Why would Hull City want to sign a player that some people on this message board don't rate. Does this a) say anything about Hull City or b) say anything about a football message board? Hes a 9stone dripping wet, 5ft and a bit winger. He doesnt screampremier leagie prospect to me. We have another youngster, on the transfer list with a supposed attitude problem, with more raw tools then Santos.. if it were him, i could see it, i just dont with Santos. Most people assumed it was Tom Lockyer as he played 30 odd games, generally looked comfortable and looked like a footbaler Santos will probably go there for a couple of years and be sold or released and get a chance at an FL club. Hull might go down obvipusly, but i dont see PL material in him. Dont have anything against him, but if he wants to go best of luck to the lad and i hope he makes a go of it
