Cant get excited by the re-branding images....
Stick with the Pirate theme - A Cap'n Pugwash type pirate might be fun. What about a Roger the Cabin Boy badge to display that we are a club in touch with our homo-erotic sea going past? Perhaps the most representative of where we are at present might be a crest that displays The Black Pig navigating choppy waters.
Just an idea

Skull and crossed bones please. The camp pirate is pantomime stuff. It wouldn't look out of place stuck on a pillar in Trafalgar Square. A pirate it is not. Cutlass in the mouth is best for a sports club imo. It's football ffs, not come dancing.

I am fully behind the rebranding exercise. I don't dislike the current badge, but the modern trend is for clear uncluttered logos.
Looking at the English Premier League logos, the one that stands out for me is Wolves. That is the kind of design we should be going for in my opinion.
Most of the NFL logos work for the same reason. They are simple, look great everywhere they are used and instantly identify the team.
The single most important visual identifier for Bristol Rovers is the blue & white quarters. That is what we are ultimately. The brand has to be built around that.
For me, there would be two options:
1. A basic blue and white quarters badge (not unlike the BMW logo, shame they already have that established). 2. Take 1 and embelish it with one motif in the centre if required (Skull and Crossbones / Pirate head). The motif should be simple and uncluttered.
I don't think we need things like the date we were formed, it just clutters it.
The Pirate head design proposed in the consulation, whilst not the final design, might be the most striking if we want to strengthen the "Pirates" brand.
I look forward to the final proposal.

What concerns me is the statement that the rebranding is being carried out in-house without the use of a professional design agency.
This was said as if it were something we should be pleased about so we would be seen to not be ‘wasting’ money.
Personally, I would be very worried about some amateur deciding on a new identity for the club.
Surely this is too important a subject for people without the necessary skills?

I would hope that once the club have all the feedback from supporters then a professional design agency would then be employed.

I really like the skull and crossbones, but I would be suprised if it survived in that form, it is very aggressive and looks more like a patch for a Hells Angel chapter than a modern football badge. I hate the pirate head it's something I would expect to see on a knock off Transformers toy

Too bland and ' on tone ' especially when viewed upon the home shirt. If the club is to pursue this change then I think the skull needs to be of a bony yellowish colour with some colour also added to the cutlasses .....just to make ' em pop like !

I can see it might appeal to little kids attending under 10’s pirate themed birthday parties . For me it’s too tacky / gimmickry - The vast majority will not want to seen as extras in the next Durex Depp film Piilates of the caramel cup.
Even if they were to drop the pathetic sabres, that in itself. would make make it a very big difference for the better..
We take the piss out of the ‘other lot’ for being the soppy robins, so there’s an opportunity to steal a march on then with recruiting the next generation of football fans.
Which, is important as we could be playing them next season; so it’s a chance to enhance and take over (finally)as the ‘top dogs in Bristol again!

The skull as a symbol on any badge these days has links to neo nazi organisations and other extreme terrorist groups. If there is any brain in those behind this change of badge then leave skulls out of any new badge.

Yes, I agree with that, I think we need to keep the pirate, after all it is our identity and quite unique within the football family. If people don't like the current figure then just re - model him, rough him up a little, make him a bit more rustic and add some colour so we don't end up with a kind of bland mono tonal emblem that you tend to see on many other clubs badges.

what bugs me is the concept is basically some clip art and text. Not exactly a high level of effort if you are trying to convince people to change the branding. Would have been better off asking some talented people to submit their idea. I knocked this up in 5 minutes in Paint with a google image. it's very rough. but if i can do that in 5 minutes, couldn't have taken long to put together what they did Attachments:badge.jfif (41.81 KB)

Those three simple designs in the link reminded me immediately of those ‘lick & stick’ kids tattoo’s from the 1960’s, gave me a real laugh, utterly pathetic, and as already mentioned, Sheff Utd already use the cross sabres so why are we even considering it, non footballing bods playing around in house I guess!.

And good to see Stuart Sinclair being remembered fondly.

UTG Happily, there is a realistic possibility that we won't be playing them next season, as we bypass them on their way down to L1 and we make our way into the championship. They really aren't very good, have being living beyond their means for far too long (in common with most of the championship) and are basically an overinflated carcass of a club being kept alive on Lansdown life support. Their crocked 'superstars' (3m for Massengo and 7m for Kalas) will be the dead weight that drags them down.
