The club also had a proposal in 1955 to build a new stadium in Speedwell near what is now the school close to what is now Broad Plain Rugby Club.
The Supporters Club meanwhile paid for the new North Stand and floodlights at Eastville so they decided to re develop instead of moving. Greyhound racing and a well supported second division (Championship) football club with average gates of 20,000 pushing for First Division football. What was not to like .....where did it all go wrong ? I'm surprised to read that, as I wouldn't have thought that this piece of land would have been stable enough to build on in 1955, or even now if it comes to that. What do you mean when you say ''proposal,'' did the club seek permission or was it offered by Bristol City Council. Harrys site must be by Barton Hill Rugby Club (or Barts as they now like to be called) as Broad Plain play south of the river at the old Robinsons (?) sports ground

It was in the public domain. GD still has the company formed at the time. Think it did go by a few different descriptions Easter Compton / Avonmouth / Severnside all ultimately doomed by chemical plants

£1m already invested by supporters to see the % of shares decreased, Trust Founders hounded out of the club, yeah sure. Not writing about this. I'm talking about buy out - if little Newport County are on the verge of it - what's stopping BRFC ?? Newport County driven by the owner wanting out so he can live in the Caribbean and also the fact he is willing to accept a loss on his investment. Personally think fan owned clubs are not the way forward and will lead to stagnation, at best, and s slow demise at worst. Of course private ownership may go that way as well depending on the abilities of the owners. Personally wouldn't touch it with a barge pole unless there was an exit strategy from the start. And that's all before you consider that a few hundred of us fans on here can barely agree if DC is or isn't the best man for the job, so what hope on other decisions? Good luck though

Really? Bet no-one could dig it up though. Still keep massaging your ego, it doesn't like you being wrong. No problem whatsoever with being wrong and admitting it, but on this subject I'm not. Here you go, I'll give you this one for free. When the evidence had been presented, based on what was reported here and on the club's websites, I posted that my opinion was that Sainsbury's were technically within their rights to walk away but because of the method they employed to arrive at that position they had caused Rovers expense and would end up paying costs. I was wrong. You were wrong about it even getting to court as well. And I was wrong in favouring us for a result. Quite easy this admitting the truth lark.

Oh dear, like a communist re-writing of history. Actually no-one mentioned an expiry date until it went to court. Of course some still deny that they said it would never ever get to court. Wrong. LIS remembers, obviously you don't. Really? Bet no-one could dig it up though. Still keep massaging your ego, it doesn't like you being wrong.

just amazing the amount of wordly wise on here........after the event!!! Some people have been saying for the best part of 2 years that the contract would have an expiry date and that would be Sainsbury's 'out' of the deal. Oh dear, like a communist re-writing of history. Actually no-one mentioned an expiry date until it went to court. Of course some still deny that they said it would never ever get to court.

Any reason Puddy isn't appearing in these pre-season friendlies? Slight groin injury. Cheers, hadn't seen that news.

If UWE pull the plug then that would be a thousand times worse news than Sainsbury's winning today's case. We don't need UWE, all we need is a competant BoD and to slowly develop the ground we already have. Or, If I were investing I would be looking long and hard at that land opposite Filton Airport, much better site than UWE. There is no Plan B, if there were that would be Higgs' focus today, not whinging on about losing the case on a technicallity. Which bit doesn't he understand, the whole point was to argue those technicalities and to convince Judy that they were the very reasons that the contract should be enforced. Said for a very long time that site would've been perfect to jointly develop with Glos CCC thus sharing a lot of facilities for year round use. However I'd now be dead set against that idea as Glos CCC are in the perfect position, playing in front of my balcony.

Heres to hoping NH doesnt hang on in there for too long then if there are investors waiting in the wings. How about that bloke from Solihull Motors that some keep banging on about being so successful and making money for that football club, does he have enough money to buy out the board ? He could then apply his successful principals to our club and we'd soon be shooting up the leagues and making loads ? He didn't last time he tried to take control. Perhaps he has come into money since then.

The Labour party were looking to stop builders 'banking' land, but they are irrelevant.

Sorry I guess I missed the rule on what can & can't be discussed. Perhaps you could re-post your list of rules? What are you talking about!
I asked if you wanted to do the conversation about the structure of the Share Scheme and handing over of funds ahead of time, again?
That's a question, not me saying what can and can't be discussed.
If you want to do it maybe we should start a new thread and leave people to get on with this thread in peace? Ah so there re rules on what & can't be discussed. Personally always saw it as a scam donation scheme drawn up by people out of their depth. Oops sorry that should've been on a new thread, damn can't get used to these rules.

You were very badly let down by the people who acted for the fans in setting up the share scheme. A different conversation entirely.
Shall we do it again?

All depends what agenda GD NH and co got!. If they win and the UWE get's delivered. Then I need to give credit were credit is due. However: if it is a typical 'money get's lost' on expenditure: running costs and loan repayments having been paid out a undisclosed settlement. We know it is an 'age old' excuse made year after year on a club who averages over 6'500 and makes on average 500k a year on transfers. I can understand Portsmouth and Plymouth because they tasted top flight football and improved their grounds. We have never ever been beyond lower divisions in the last 20 years and the MEM is getting worst not better... I am sorry but I am at a loss why our club is £5-6 million in debt . Let's hope monday proves me wrong and it will be a price worth paying !! That statement would amaze every Plymouth fan

But at the time there was simply no finance available, by the time the loans market had opened back up the UWE, financed by Sainsbury's money, seemed a far better option. I can't recall many fans saying at the time that NH was mad not to develop the Mem rather than build the UWE. Until Trash came along (I wonder where there backing came from!) the UWE seemed the dream ticket, a 22,000 purpose built stadium with car parking and most of the clubs debts apparently cleared. Ah but there are plenty with hindsight that are saying he his mad. Hindsight why didn't we ever sign him as manager?

the investment in players happened Lambert for one and start an academy ...which happened No lower league Club can reduce debt ...
Maybe you should find out where the money for Lambert actually came from, then get back to us. You were very badly let down by the people who acted for the fans in setting up the share scheme.

So has both party's been informed of the decision before the announcement on Monday? Thought both would be told a day prior so seeing this is the last working day, maybe the club already knows the outcome? ?? But are bound by the court rules not to divulge the verdict to anybody!! Please God let us hope that no-one has told Ken Masters
