I've reappraised my relationship with Rovers a few times in the past rather that contemplate quitting or following. Sometimes it's as a result of a change in circumstances - I now live overseas. Sometimes it's as a result of the clubs actions - appointing Barton makes me care far less if his team loses.
Another question to ask is what events or factors would result in you having a closer relationship with Rovers (again)?

The 1-1 draw away to Dover, in our Conference season. To throw away the chance of automatic promotion on the last day of the season, against a Dover side that clearly had the beaches of Faliraki on their minds, was too much for me. It`s a long drive home from there, and hardly a word passed between the three of us; just a disconsolate silence. I genuinely thought, this has blighted my life long enough. Ten days later, and I`m queueing up for play off tickets against Forest Green. There`s no fool, like an old fool.

I considered not going after Wael didnt sack JB a few weeks back for the DV charge.
However, I support BRFC and that is far bigger than any one individual.
That is the only time.

I also stayed away one season in support of Kevin’s ban but I cracked & missed my friends too much.

And this is why no matter what goes on currently, I will never see Higgs and Watola as anything other than detrimental to Rovers.

I've not seen a ball kicked, or spent any money on BRFC since the Barton appointment. I had never considered withdrawing my active support up until this date.

I would not let one individual or set of circumstances stop me supporting Rovers. I find this moral high ground a bit tiresome. I still went in the Tote, despite the hooliganism and National Front selling their literature outside the ground. Football WAS exciting.
What happens as you get older is that the support ebbs and flows, but I think that for me, this is more a disenchantment with the sport. There is less emotional attachment and less dependency on a result. I feel like I am weaning myself off football, but that is partly from recognition that previous highs are no longer achievable.

A lot of truth in that plus, I think, the pandemic has seen many of us have also found other things to do. I mainly go because of the circles of friends. I feel I’m watching a club that won’t achieve anything but I love the old friendships I have made

Getting punched in the face in the Tote End by a Rovers supporter just because a friend I was standing with had a red jumper on under his jacket, football in the seventies...those were the days !

I used to wear a black crombie coat, with red lining showing, in the Tote and that was never deemed offensive. A skin-head did offer me £10 for it at the Stoke game in 1978. My Mum would have killed me.

Deeply humbled by your actions FJ and so pleased that you didn't have to support a non league team I also remember you giving me a lift up Muller Road for the D&G promotion game. Flattered that you recognised me from behind but thrilled that we were both able to celebrate being able to support a third division club once more.

I said to a friend who had come over with his American wife her first Rovers match was the Shrewsbury Town play off final at Wembley Fortunately Walker 2 and Igoe saved the day. What goals they were tho Especially the Bergkampesque 2nd and the Hollywood ending As good a group of 3 goals as you will ever find, imo, from a BRFC match. For different reasons. As to coming close to stopping, we’re a lower league side so there’s bound to be bad times. We just have to put up with them and support through thin and thinner. Mind you, and few may remember this, March 1967 and we were challenging QPR, Watford and Mansfield for promotion from Division 3 and we go and lose at home to Workington! Blimey, I think they won only 4/5 matches all season, were relegated by Christmas and finished well adrift. We never looked likely to go up after that, though we did beat QPR in our home match a few weeks later. My first and never forgotten let down as a BRFC fan!

I think I'd be more worried if I still had the same emotional engagement as before

Crombies were all the rage then though so I am not a bit surprised by that offer and especially natty looking if worn with a pair of faded levis turned up to just below the knee and all finished off with 18 eyelet Cherry Red DM's....yeah, I remember you !

Are you pissed again? 😎 Father Jack was in Belgium or some such nonsense on the day of the D&R game...I think. (Might have been the year before though - Wembley) No, I haven't been drinking and fully supported your ban. 😁

It might have been a week before, then again it might not have been FJ and a total stranger liked my arse. Thank you for your support.

I'm glad that I still went whilst Kevin was banned.
It allowed me to walk up to Higgs, ask for his version of events that lead to the ban, and then laugh at him when it bore no relationship whatsoever to what Kevin had told me himself.
