Time to make history for Joey and his squad. Addicks lost Bowyer and form at home is poor so perfect time to play at the Valley tomorrow evening.
We have not scored in our last four away games so time for our strikers to change that.
if we are to go to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday with confidence we must avoid defeat at Charlton.
Hopefully Rodman is fit. Presume Oztumer won't be allowed to play tomorrow.
I have decided to listen rather than watch but will pay to watch the Argyle West country Derby.

Stats v Charlton are - P65, W22, D19, L24 and yes we have not won away to them since 29th March 1958 in a 2-3 victory.
On the 18th November 1978 we had a 5-5 home draw with them.

Anyone remember the 3 2 win at the Valley last time we won there ? Geoff Bradford, Barrie Meyer and John McIlvenny scored watched by 20,064. Remarkably we did the double over Charlton winning 1 0 at Eastville with future Hall of famer, Alfie Biggs scoring the winner. Bradford managed 20 league goals in 33 appearances that season. Biggs 9 in 27.

Great time to play them now, I agree. In fact a lot of these fixtures coming up people are saying are too tough to get anything from will similarly be against so called big clubs who will be tense, under pressure trying to get up, or cracked and in limbo for next season. Not a doubt now in my mind Joey Barton will keep us up. The reason I mentioned, so called big games aren’t impossible with their players under pressure + Joey only needs 15 points from 36 for legend status + the way he has us playing and picking up points he will easily get them.
It’s starting to be exciting times to support gas again, with players like Jonah and Nicholson starting to look the business. Those losing interest are reading last week’s chip wrapper. Out of the sides at the bottom we are the one coming out the dark and on the up.
I did though mention before last kick off we lack a playmaking 10, either static in the hole or seeking space, I don’t think we will purr in any of these coming games without that. A few contenders, like Nicholson and Hanlon better at carrying the ball than the pass. It doesn’t have to be advanced I suppose, the playmaker could be deep lying, but that certainly ain’t Upson or Grant. Who in your mind is closest to the assist making passer, comparable to say when Sercombe and Lines were on the books. JCH actually did a lot of that last season.

Horses for courses, we will struggle today.
It's a great time to play them, if Rochdale can score 4 there (and not win!), anything can happen.
The two times I've been there recently, both losses, the luck hasn't been with us because I'm still sure to this day the ball wasn't over the line.... and even back in the 90s we couldn't beat them at Selhurst or Upton.
Start 2 up front and we may have a chance...

Could Westbrooke be the playmaking 10? Or Oztumer when fit? I'm concerned that Rodman will be quite a big miss.

I do not expect the team to get anything here but then, I think this is still the most unbalanced and poor side we have had. I see the only way of avoiding the drop is by relying on other teams to do as bad or worse. What a bloody mess Wael has made of us with his visions of tippy talppy, nice looking football. The buck ends with him.

Oz hasn’t had much playing time under Joey, but I agree, he is nearest thing in squad to experienced roaming playmaker. I also agree Westbrook is good option for assists from dead balls, but remember lines playing great 30 yard through balls in open play, we haven’t seen much of that from anyone. There have been some great 4 or 5 man moves around the opposition box putting someone in on goal, but no one threading a through ball even though we have runners trying to spring the trap. I want to see a bit more roaming playmaking and threading 😼

As it stands, you can get:
Charlton to win: 19/20. Draw: 12/5. Rovers to win: 3/1.
I think that's decent odds for us to get something out of the match, considering the recent upheaval with the host club.
Maybe the best time to play them.

Saw John Hewie play for them at Eastville.Wing half I think who was a South African.Rare in those days to have a foreign born player.Their Goalie Sam Bartram later became famous for producing a Magazine ,'Sam Bartrams 'Football monthly'.Very well produced and I recall having a letter printed extolling the qualities of our very own Ian Hamilton. Much more recently of-course Tommy Locks went there on a free transfer but not sure it was a very successful stint.

I was at the 1974 game, travelled up to London with friends, and decided to watch QPR v Manchester United in the afternoon, even though we didn’t have tickets. It was in the days when you could turn up to a game, and had no problems paying on the day. There was a huge crowd, but we even managed to park near the ground., no residents permits! Rangers won the game 3-0, Man Utd were very poor, and were relegated at the end of the season. It was George Best’s last game for them, he was bearded, overweight and anonymous. I seem to remember Stan Bowles scored a fantastic solo goal, Gerry Francis could well have been playing for Rangers. We then crossed London to drive to The Valley, parked, and stood on the huge open terrace at the side of the pitch, with Rovers still unbeaten that season on January 1st! My memory of the game was that Charlton took the lead, were the better side, but Rudge equalised quite late in the game, when the unbeaten run was looking in great danger. We never seem to score late goals this season, would be nice to score a late equaliser, or winner tonight!

I think that unbeaten run if memory serves me correct was ended at The Racecourse a game or two later.

I am going to be ultra positive and go for a 0-0 draw, no all joking aside, let's go for a 1-2 away win, hey our luck must change after 62 years surely.

Yep, unluckily lost to Wrexham iirc. 27 games from the start of the season - 32 games if you include the last 5 from the previous season.

Paddy Madden sold by Fleetwood to Stockport for £100k how did this happen outside transfer window? Mark McGhee is Stockport asst manager was unaware of that until today.
Why did Barton not ask Wael to sign him a quality striker at this level

Why did Barton not ask Wael to sign him a quality striker at this level Potentially cancelled his contract, so someone has to pay somewhere, but shouldn't ideally be classed as a fee/transfer
