Agree with the original post. What I don't understand is how this can persist across multiple boards / owners? How does a club retain a "Mindset"? This is what appears to happen (not just in Football, but all sports), but how? How to change that? I find myself agreeing with wholeheartedly with everything that JB says in every interview (apart from criticism of the match officials). One of my first ever posts on the forum was greeted with ridicule because it was about bird sh*t covering the crash barriers and weeds growing out of the terraces. A few fans had complained about this but nothing had been done and I said that if such lack of care and acceptance of slovenliness was allowed to continue it would soon permeate the whole club. The general response was "who cares, we're only here for the football". And that, in essence, is the root cause of the problem we have at Rovers. If we continue to tolerate an inefficient business model with low standards and a couldn't care less attitude we will continue to get an inefficient football team with low standards and a couldn't care less attitude. It’s become part of Bristol Rovers culture to celebrate and revel in being tin pot. Trying to apply standards to this club never goes down well, when you’re a fan. Even Tisdale, as the manager was criticised by the fans for complaining at the state of it. So one thing I’ll give B***** credit for is that his football career has given him a lot more credit with the fans to slag the state of the place off than Tisdale was able to get away with. Let’s see how much he can raise standards in the very short time he will be here.

If I was a manager who had lost three of his first four games, I think I would use an interview to blame everybody else for the results so far. But, what a pleasant surprise I would have when everybody (sorry, almost everybody) agreed with me and said what a fine job I was doing. Nuff said. You won’t find many on here saying he’s doing a fine job! But all the same that doesn’t negate that the club is partly where it is because of problems long before he got here. As he said himself the other day if the club had been doing well previously then B***** wouldn’t be here in the first place. The football side is run like a dog.’s dinner from the board down to the players. Fair play to B***** for calling out the standards that have been set.

I expect him to deal with problems he has identified. He has taken them to task about apologising on Twitter. Good thing too. Concentrate on your effing football. B***** was never going to come in and say everything was great and that the players are being professional. They have lost games just as much due to unprofessional preparation and training as mistakes on the pitch, you make your own luck. I like what JB had to say.He must get things going how he wants and build a team from it. I just hope we can somehow stay up. I think we would have a cracking season next year if we do stay up with JB. Just a personal hunch based on no facts at all, as is my right as a Gashead :-)
If JB avoids relegation he would have answered any short term football management questions IMO. More importantly he would have earned respect (in BRFC footballing terms).

I have had enough of "Rag Bag Rovers". I want, to quote JB "To walk around Bristol wearing The Quarters with pride". It's been a LONG time since I can honestly say I've felt that...
Enough is enough.

It makes me cringe watching on iFollow as the camera pans left towards the North Terrace and the rust of the decaying West Stand is in view.
Yes, it's a minor point but image is everything. Football is a product and it is in everyone's best interest to make sure that more people want to buy into that.

The things you need to create change for the better is some pride, passion, drive and vision.... look at the assembled board for one, let alone any of those attributes. I see no pride or passion and drive and vision from those individuals is an impossibility in my opinion. They are better off taking no risk, nodding when the owner requires them too and plodding on picking up their pay. Anyone who wants any change is merely a threat to their position and will be quickly ushered out the door where possible. Whilst I’m not a massive JB fan I do think he is capable of breaking that status quo which I hope he can do. Until someone does that we will continue to experience the rust, bird s**t, weeds and tents. Controversial thing to say but as a support base we kind of get what we expect to get which is not a criticism it’s just a symptom of many, many years of the crap we have endured.

Brian Clough,on taking charge at Hartlepools had players painting the stadium. One of my favourite football personalities of all time. I'd at least put a number of players on airtasker in the hope we could at least recoup some money that was spent on recruiting them. I'm sure Alexis Andre could paint some walls and Liddle could offer garden services

This thread should be renamed “rust, bird sh|t, weeds and tents”
Sadly pointing out how rag bag will still are only ends one way
On the plus side, there looked to be brick construction work going on at the training ground when I ran past recently. Timber roof frames and all. They still have a cheap sticker covering up the old “colony” name on all the signs though. Budget doesn’t stretch to getting new ones

I would like to think he would stay if we go down, that is unless we lose 12 out of 14 games.

but he's no track record of 'sorting anything out'. Apart from violent situations, maybe it's easy to pick faults, the valuable skill is showing that you know how to fix things, especially deep-rooted systemic things Let him rule the roost. He's the Boss, lef him boss. No more Chiefs. No more cooks spoiling the broth. I reckon he knows who is good at their job at a football club. Get Roy Keane in to assist him and we'll have two violent characters with a mental age of eight running the club.

What a daft comment to make B***** is trying to make a difference as he said he is here for 2 and a half years trying to improve a club who appear to be a family club. But with few winners of matches. He said it could take six months price in the shirt has gone in my humble opinion We need local born youngsters who want to play and replace some of the high earning mercenaries we currently have. Recruitment was poor and has been a failure.

May as well give the guy some minutes. The worst he can do is equal the goal scoring of the forwards we are presently using.

If we continue to tolerate an inefficient business model with low standards and a couldn't care less attitude we will continue to get an inefficient football team with low standards and a couldn't care less attitude. Here's another example of the 'attitude' that appears acceptable at the club. Yes I know that I created the situation, but it's quite telling I think. At a game a couple of years ago I got a phone call, obviously I couldn't take it because of the match day noise. After the game, when the PA had shut up, I sat on the terrace and returned the call, during the call some guy came along the terrace with one of those leaf blower things, he looked beyond disinterested in what he was doing, just loosely waving this contraption around, so I decided to sit where I was and see what happened. It was as if I wasn't there, no attempt to go around me or see if I was going to move, he blew his torn up 50/50 tickets and empty crisp bags right past me. Fantastic level of respect for a visitor to the stadium I thought. Then there was the cup game maybe 3 years ago where some unfortunate soul was unwell in the home end and vomited. It was heartening to see how Rovers' H&S systems kicked in when this happened. Some Woman appeared with a washing up bowl full of water and threw at the mess on the floor, that caused it to splash onto the trousers and shoes of people in the area. If it's tin pot and amateur you are looking for, you've found it.

Budget doesn’t stretch to getting new ones I thought it was reference to Joey talking to God. We can make it one. Joey was out pacing the garden. His eyes had been opened. Like Job before him, he looked to the heavens and asked. What the f am I going to do with this s***? A pebble in the stream will have more cutting edge. Once the whistle sounds I cannot get the keystone cops signature theme out my head. I awake with sweats at the thought of Jordi van Strappon running off his line to play the ball. And the all knowing omnipresent miracle working Lord of all things replied: don’t ask me, you took the gig you work it out.
