A coach who had played and coached at many levels once told me that Bristol Rovers were run like a non league club playing in the Football League.
Paul Tisdale commented after a few weeks that things weren't right but people hammered him for one single point about non playing staff walking on the pitch and using it as a short cut.
Today these are Joey Bartons comments:
"That’s a common theme running throughout the club. There’s just level of malaise and complacency that creeps into your culture when your culture is not performing at the level. That’s what we’re here to change and that’s what we will change in our time here, because if you want to be an elite high-performance culture, you have to behave and have the daily habits of that long before the results start to come and vindicate it."

True it's what Tis said, but it sure reads like deflection

You just have to look at Starnes and his appearance, the example he sets, it reeks of complacency and couldn't care less attitude as long as my boss stays 3000 miles away I can do what I want.

I really want to like B*****, I really do. His frank use of the word malaise is spot on and is a word I’ve been using for a while to describe the way the club is going through the motions under Wael- hire manager, fire manager, spin the wheel of fortune, rinse and repeat. No attempt to investigate the culture at the club and the practices that culture produces. I also agree with OP, Tisdale seemed to be trying to convey the same thoughts but unfortunately didn’t have the leverage over the owner that B***** undoubtedly does.
That being said, B*****’s past undermines the message. How can anyone with B*****’s history talk about elite standards and professionalism? Being involved in an altercation resulting in a court case is not elite or progressional.
I know people are going to roll their eyes and flame me for harking at his past but that’s the entire point- you can’t divorce your past when you are the one trying to set an example to others because you seem somewhat of a hypocrite.
Like I say, I want to like him because on the face of it he is speaking home truths that a lot of supporters want to see aimed at the board but don’t have the platform to do so.

On its own not an issue but with everything else just adds to the impression of not really caring

Was he talking about players or the whole club? I thought more about the players as was talking about mistakes etc at the time, like Upson being nowhere near ready to come on.

Yes I agree with a lot of that. B***** is probably correct. And his past does undermine the message but I guess once he was appointed we’ve got to suspend our astonishment and accept that he is our manager and hope that he does well and is able to change his behaviour and show himself to be transformed. There’s no benefit for BRFC to say “we’ve brought you in to do a football job so just stick to that and behave yourself”, we’ve brought him in so we have to support him fully as he addresses the “malaise” which you are spot on about. Little point in doing what we’ve done if we don’t, as a club, support him. Let’s hope you (and I) can grow to like him. UTG!

I’ll bet he’s not impressed at the state of the place though. Being a club’s third manager in the season can’t be what he was hoping for when he left Fleetwood.

You missed the "throughout the club" just as Tisdale highlighted but got slaughtered for doing so, and most supporters have chosen to ignore for decades. I never wanted the bloke here but if he opens a few more eyes and finally gets people to knuckle down and improve the club then all credit to him. Hopefully he will be even more open when speaking to Wael and changes will be made.

If B***** says it and is able to act upon it then things will be interesting. I do wonder what the DoF is doing. Setting the culture of the football side throughout falls on his shoulders, a new manager shouldn’t have to come in to point it out, especially when the last one already did. If B***** can shake this up then great but it begs the question if the solution (TW) is actually the problem

That could be the most important words spoken by a Rovers Manager for years,if heard. Give Joey carte blanche and let him sort it out.

Apart from violent situations, maybe it's easy to pick faults, the valuable skill is showing that you know how to fix things, especially deep-rooted systemic things

Leopards and spots and all that 3- fair point! in respect of 3, as an alternative you could pay some consultant's for a 200-page report instead. They'd be happy to oblige

We do have very deep-rooted problems at our club and just maybe by some miracle a so called thug might just get us back on track, but first we have to survive this seasons farce.

Saying there is a malaise across the club wont go down well with TW and if he does have the influence people think then it might be worth a bet on a fourth manager this season.....

True it's what Tis said, but it sure reads like deflection Tisdale can change that culture with a meeting. He obviously didn't deal with it. If you accept it, you condone it.
