Another frustrating night. We create a few chances, can't convert them (we all know why, scratched record) and let a sloppy goal in and cling on for the lose. Nickers clear through. Brandon clear through. Leahy shot. Rodders at the death. No goals.....we are paying the price for our failure to sign an experienced striker at this level and haven't replaced JCH. Smith only has one foot....as fast as he is, you got to coerce him and his like away from goal, not inside so he can shoot unblocked. Goal. Slow and lethargic again in possession, no forward movement, no runs. They played offside first half, but Leahy hardly got forward second. After sending off it looked like they had more players on the pitch than us!? How many times is it opposite when we play v 10? McCormick.....ok, the ref was awful. Inconsistent all night. But you don't give him the opportunity to book you....Luke did and through naivity of youth perhaps cost us the game. We looked broken after that. He'll serve a ban too. Arguably without our best player.....the ref softly books our player to sending off and not theirs.....things haven't been going for us for a while and the one step forward and three steps back is gonna put us in Division 4 and the slide continues.... Poor, tonight. We are a better team than them and played the football first half. But, yet again we are masters of our own destiny and conspired to beat ourselves. Individual and collective errors are costing us matches and we can't find a way out of it.. Wigan and Burton are two nails (in coffin) where we can't find a win in those 4 fixtures. Yet, we've been the best performing team in all those games! Crazy times, indeed... “we are paying the price for our failure to sign an experienced striker at this level and haven't replaced JCH.” for all the blaming players and managers, and the billion posts on this blog where we argue among ourselves, it’s all in that one sentence. That simply is it. Nah, nah, not having it. Can’t be. Widders himself told us there are enough goals to keep us up in our strikers. “100%” he said. He wouldn’t lie to us.

Ten men won't help the cause. Two yellows.Bit harsh but reckon he won't be the last with this ref. It’s turned on the sending off. On the replay it looks very harsh. I’ve seen balls kicked further after whistle, but he did run about ten yards to kick a ball 9 yards so it just looked too obvious? He was an idiot to kick the ball away when he knew he was already on a yellow. We had 54% of play and 13 shots away from home and still failed to score. So, so very frustrating when we should be winning games that we have lost. A tough march fixture list coming up, 4 home and 3 away.

It's going to take longer than years to recover if we go down. It'll just be years if we stay up.

It’s easier to just put it down to a momentary blip and carry on regardless. This club needs to ask itself hard questions about how it has managed to go from 3rd in the table to losing to two relegation zone sides in a matter of days during a relegation battle. All all in the space of just over 12 months. For it’s part, the club seems determined to kick that can down the road and Wael, I guarantee you, will be absolutely delighted to avoid relegation by a whisker as it will be validation that he’s running the club well after all.

It's going to take longer than years to recover if we go down. It'll just be years if we stay up. JCH kept a better side than this up couple of seasons ago. We had 54% of play and 13 shots away from home and still failed to score. That sums up the season not just any one match. after Lamborghini went. And after Zamora, Robert’s and Cureton in quick succession. Goalless slumps to relegation. But it’s not just examples from our history, it’s universal, problem replacing the goal scorers when they leave. but what’s particular about this instance, we have a director of football, ceo and owner who could surely know the problem before JCH had left, that unless addressed this problem will relegate us. If they couldn’t see what needed to be done as we entered December, are they even paying attention? And go through the whole window, here we still are shooting blanks in our quest for relegation before the final weekend. the only thing that can sum it up is WHAT THE f?

Wael, Tommy, Barton and our 5 a side team of coaches from previous regimes will all dust themselves down ready to go again. And not a thing will be learnt or changed...apart from maybe another manager in due course. Although Barton’s celebrity will earn him a bit more slack than Tisdale got.

Well Starnes did say when GC left they wanted the club to go in a different direction, and they’ve delivered oh Vlad. You are such a wag. I didn’t mind the the original plan of forging dna for a club run well, good values, playing football the right way, young side coached well, preferably with an old wise head beside a good coach, like Lenny Lawrence sat next to Trollope - stick a teacher to guide Garner not sack him, (what’s Gerry doing these days) if we had that, the relegation is explained as not enough street wise experience alongside the youngsters, and not enough goals, as yet. We over reached in the plan, but look, not afraid to admit that. But still there is a plan in place. If we drop, 4 teams up from league 2 next year? we will compete to come straight back up. If we could at least still trust Wael, Starnes and Toomy? Still trust we had a fine coach manmanager. Then accept the relegation because of that mess made of recruitment because at least it’s a plan, a good plan, you could see bearing fruit eventually, rather than carnage of internal politics and panic and rovers reputation trashing we have seen since. Staying up or going down now, there is no plan to it, we just look like a poorly run club, flailing around clueless, blowing budgets paying people off. Surely going down with a plan and trusting those running the club is better than avoiding any relegation if you can’t believe in them laying plans and making sound decisions or owning up to mistakes to bring us back again from this mess, whichever league we play in next year?

Exactly right! The appointment of Barton has got stars in everyone’s eyes and the questions you are posing have been taken off the table- eg what exactly is the club’s plan? What happened to the Rovers DNA nonsense? Garner, Tisdale and Barton looks the exact opposite of the Swansea DNA approach of Martinez, Sousa and Rodgers. Like you say we’re just flailing around and not bothering to identify the real issues at the club. But no-one wants to listen. Too easily seduced by Wael and his sleight of hand hiring managers that give Rovers column inches instead of points.

Simples In the ten games before Garner sacked he won 4 drew 3 lost 3, looked good in all of them, should have won a couple of those draws. The expansive way we played that stage of season we were shipping goals in 2nd half of games against some of the better sides whilst naively chasing win against them, despite it looking even till then, but we looked so much better then than now against the relegation sides. So that’s internal politics in the poorly run club, ceo, owner dof convinced themselves this squad should have been doing better than that? And there goes a real asset in a proven coach of young players. Instead they could have decided he needed help with game management, and brought in a mentor like Lenny mentored Trollope. that win 3 draw 3 lost 3 run in league is best we have looked yet this season.

Even if all but one is saying ‘you twat’ and the odd one is dinners ready love put that down now.

If he needed coppell or someone of that level of experience then they should have been brought in in an official capacity. Coppell came in unpaid as a favour and fair play to Garner for recognising that, but the board never took the hint and clearly widdrington doesn’t have the experience a director of football should have. Swansea had a turnover of managers but built on top of what the previous had achieved. Jackett was sacked when he’d taken them up but Martinez added some flair and quality to take swans to the next level. In creating our own DNA, for some reason we ripped apart everything GC had done to get us into the top 4

We threw that away. Stupid thing to kick the ball away by McCormick because the ref was looking for him. He was straight on anything we did and seemed to let Burton make niggly tackle after niggly tackle and only gave free kicks. It’s our own fault though, because we should have won that in the first half. I think the ref wasn’t consistent either, several of their players kicked it away and he did nothing. There you go, these things happen. All in all I thought we played well but we need to make our pressure and possession count. threw it away, or just not good enough all season to take it? I’m not too hostile to what your man Barton is trying to do. I said at the start of this night, however you cut a formation and 11 from this squad there are flaws. But would you argue if I said lack of consistency in formation and 11 has cost us over the season. After home games would he line up more negatively in away 6 pointer? For the team to start performing consistently in coming weeks IMO should stick to broadly similar formation, partnerships, duties and match ups, the more practicing on the same thing the better you get at it, rather than trying something new all the time. Joey has quite sensibly gone to his system of back four and bravely stuck to it all 3 games. Barton’s deep defensive line mitigates our lack of pace and positional naivety like how many straightforward punts have done us this season. And he has also gone for consistency in selection and to some regard shape, though he seemed to half tuck Williams in to make a three, play rodders deep and westwood wide, and it didn’t really work well, are any of those three achieving their best like that? but why these players for the relegation run in? Killer and Harries, hardly the experience pair. Nor turning to the more experienced options midfield. No Daley? After the rare Pompey start and the magic he showed, no Jonah? His own decisions or other people at the club in his ear? Is it not a relegation fight more a selling stakes race card?

The best from Williams and best back three pick available, get the best from rodders so deep, get the best from best Westbrook wide right and forward? For all your praising it, it’s 3 points from 9 from hardly group of death set of fixtures.

So do you disagree that the shape worked very well v Shrews (a match we dominated for 90 minutes) & that we were well on top last night until the red card? I’m not saying that JB has cracked it & found the magic formula, as results clearly need to improve, but performances have definitely improved since his arrival IMO - which will hopefully lead to improved results after a bit more training time.
