No wonder Rovers are going no where -- Reading a lot of the posts on this topic and the New manager we are stuck in a bloody time warp. Forget the family club motto, Time to be a little bit nastier/tasty. It seems a lot of fans on this particular forum are too nice and would be happy to have a little 4th division club playing in a sub standard stadium/ground.

My take on the stadium situation is this:
The Mem is the ONLY stadium we have ever owned in my lifetime.
It is a noisy, intimidating place to visit (or it could be if we had something to shout about).
We have tried (and failed) many times to move to a new ground.
We have deep roots in Horfield now, and I think we should stay and develop The Mem. I don't want to move.
We are a Division 3 side historically, with ambitions to move to Division 2. I think we should focus on that goal. A compact 15K stadium would be perfect in my opinion. I don't see why we can't achieve that whilst building in non-football facilities (conference facilities, sports bar, etc).
Our ambitions should be to become an established Championship side at The Mem. That is achievable with a little ambition, planning and organisation.
I am NOT a happy clapper. I'm fed up with our mediocre recent history. I want to see progress in my lifetime!

Rovers lack of success can be put down to a few old farts on a forum, used by a miniscule amount of it's support, not being 'tasty' enough. Who knew?

I agree with your views, Richmace.
I do think that we have to re-build the Mem, but it has to be a quality re-development.
Wael is rightly proud to be owner of a football club and has proved his commitment. But the house itself is a shack.
Our supporters tend to forget how much he has invested to wipe off the debts and keep us going during a Pandemic. There are others who have a master-plan of how they are going to turn us into a self-sustaining football club overnight. Yep.
We should thank our lucky stars thar we have an owner who is this committed and has deeper pockets than the true Gashead, local business man directors of the past. Yes, thanks Barry.
However, having showed real intent with the Training Ground development, let's back this up with a re-development plan for the Mem. My recommendation would be a brand new East Stand, funded by Wael and supporters.

The buck has to stop with him. 2. "My recommendation would be a brand new East Stand, funded by Wael and supporters". Appoint a thug as your manager and I think you'll be cutting off a decent percentage of potential funding. I think appointing Barton will be an incredibly stupid, short-sighted, divisive decision. There is something fundamentally wrong with Bristol Rovers FC and the decisions made by the Board. Regardless. My feeling is that people with any kind of business acumen and spare cash to invest won't be handing it over to Wael. Can you imagine him pitching this on Dragons Den? Just look at the achievements over the last 5 years. I give you, not for the first time, the Family Tent. Assuming I had half a brain (debatable). "I'm out".

Spot on and to hear someone say they’d be happy to see us in tier 4, because we would win more games just does my swede in. No bloody ambition and Buckle got his wish, expectations have been lowered and then some

richmace summed it up well for me. I'd love to see it happen. Build a tight little stadium at The Memorial.

Yup - agree with pretty much all of that. BUT. Is there room to build profit generating non-football facilities? We'd almost certainly have to extend in to the east car park. Not impossible though. So far, so good. More importantly. Even at 15,000 - and bringing us into the 21st century... How much would that cost? Total guess, anywhere between £10mil - £20mil (who knows, it won't come cheap though). I doubt Wael can fund that on his own. I doubt there will be interest from outside investors. I doubt the ability to raise funds from supporters. So... answers on a postcard. Frustration shared.

I now think doing up the Mem a great idea.Hopefully with a capacity of 20,000,with the ability of making it 25,000.
Is'nt the Mem 'area' the same measurements as Goodison Park?So 25,000 should be possible.

As stated by El Presidente who when deflecting ammo after the UWE debacle back in 2017 "always been our fall-back plan.e (of the land at the Memorial Stadium), it's kind of ideal. Our size is exactly the same as Everton's stadium. It's a beautiful piece of land, in the heart-bed of Rovers fans" It would also make sense to factor in an underground car park under the stadium (such as Spurs have done) thus keeping the available land build size intact, which would then allow some scope to for other revenue streams. Just Build did somebody say Just Build!
