A tough time to play the "biggest" side in the division who are 3rd in the form tables over the last 12 games vs the Gas (22nd out of 23 over the same time frame). If we persevere with 4-3-3 I think we could be on the wrong side of a hammering. I don't think we have 2 good enough/fit enough full-backs and Craig/Kilgour doesn't do it for me as CB's. Obviously I hope I'm horrendously wrong...

Moving o2o2bo2ba comment from his own thread (we over-lapped) - I'll delete the old thread... "Sunderland away. One of the more romantic away fixtures of the division....until you visit the surroundings. If ever the wanna go home song is appropriate, well let's just say cap fits wear it applies. Can't see anything other than a defeat I'm afraid. Hope I'm wrong. Hope the hundreds travelling enjoy a fab time and famous Gas win. I've been twice, once to Roker, once to new ground....both times we played really well, both times no win. I go for no win again today. 2-0 defeat. Damage limitations. Gas sing your hearts out. Safe journey and good luck to all that travel. Including a few I know whom went up yesterday... easyJet made their money! UptheGas..."

FWIW - Bookies odds are tightening on a Sunderland win, now 1-2 at best. The draw is generally 3-1 and a Gas win 13-2. I would guess a Sunderland home win will form part of a lot of accumulators today...

Put it another way. This fixture will happen next season, Sunderland ain't good enough to go up despite being the "biggest "club in this division, IF they win today it will be by no more that 12 goals.... they don't have the firepower... tonight numbers 2-7-15 -18 -38 44 [33]

Not expecting anything from today. I will be happy enough to see some 'green shoots' of progress and a battling display, COYB !.

I guess we're sticking with an attacking 4-3-3? Blackman Kilgour/Menayese/Craig/Leahy Upson/Clarke/Ogogo Ginelli/JCH/JML Might come off. Might get spanked.

Great idea when you haven't got the players (an authentic right back for instance?) for 4-3-3, we'll shoehorn the players we have got into that formation which hasn't succeeded for 4years...

What would you play today without a RB? A back four accentuates our weaknesses on flanks imo, and apart from Upson form, our defence in GC era was jewel in the crown.. I would 3-5-2 or 3-5-1-1. Rodders has deputised on right wing back, and even though it's not his position, he's not that bad tbh. The Craig - Kilgore - Mayonnaise dysfunctionally works. It sounds like we're under the cosh atm. After the obligatory sub, then one more ten minutes later, if jch gets a strike partner and we look more balanced, it will all be for nothing because 4-3-f*king3, will be started again v Shrewsbury. And so the cycle goes on. Groundhog Day!

Good first 20 minutes or so. They got on top of us later on and Sunderland are getting down our right flank with ease. Partly Kilgour out of position and partly due to Ginelli/JML not tracking back. 0-0 at HT and we look pretty good on the ball going forward. Shakey at the back though. We haven't a decent full back on either side...

Leahy miles out of position for the first goal and no-one covering his absence down our left flank. 2nd one very debatable. Craig and Kilgour clash of heads, ball fell to Wyke who had a clear run at goal, rounded the keeper and 2-0 game over. Could the referee have whistled immediately after the clash of heads? Garner furious and eventually booked. Could be vulnerable to more goals now.

Problems down our left flank again. Leahy just can't defend. Bit of a problem for a left back.
