Agree with all the criticisms but....
I have watched plenty of it. But then I’ll stop at a village green when there’s a village cricket match on and watch it! But really looking forward to being in Taunton for my first live cricket in a while tomorrow, Somerset v Gloucestershire. Big match for both counties.
FWIW:
I loved watching the Somerset players do well this year or rather those that were involved. Leach, Abel (though he was injured), Overton, de Lange were all in squads and were not allowed to play for Somerset but didn’t play for their franchises! Crazy. But I loved watching Lewis Gregory captain the Trent Rickets to the title. Showed what a very good all round cricketer he is. When it looked as if the Originals were going to win he came in and saw his team to the title. Well done him. Also Tom Lammonby only played the last three matches but made a winning contribution in two matches but not yesterday though he helped them get to their final total.
Interesting piece on BBC website today. Big question mark over it’s second season.

Thanks for posting that bt. Hadn’t seen it but it means nothing does it? Apart from the viewers voted for it. Only one player from the winners yet 4 players from a team, Phoenix, who didn’t qualify. Cricket is a team game and the Rockets were far and away the best ‘team’ in the competition. None of those stats take into account Morgan’s and Gregory’s captaincy, both captained their teams to wins in very tight situations.

Good post Warehamgas, i understand your thoughts on the hundred, i like all forms of cricket and my 1st love will always be the Test Cricket version.

I think the business end of the hundred took it into a kind of saturation area for a lot of viewers, with the games, the hot weather et al, other things took priority.

It needs a bit more planning to avoid clashes with other t20 style cricket, taking important players away thus reducing the quality thereafter.

Having said that, the women's game has improved and most games i found more entertaining than the men's.

Hope you have a great time following the Somerset v Gloucestershire match, you can't beat a local derby.

I can understand people having a pop at The Hundred, the ECB have really cocked up the schedule to accommodate it, but perhaps cricket fans have the intelligence to enjoy all forms of cricket. I certainly can! 😉

Agree, all forms of the great game are good, the next generation will find their way into whichever one suits them.

At the end of the day i love test cricket, i am a dinosaur that has come around to the t20, 100 all of em really.

I don`t think that anyone who likes T20 or The 100 lacks intelligence. I do suspect that quite a few, possibly lack the attention span to appreciate Test cricket.

Fair enough. As for myself, I`m looking forward to the Test series in Pakistan, with an anticipation that I could never feel for the shortened forms of the game.

To me, cricket is the most beautiful of games. It doesn`t have the visceral appeal that football does; I don`t suffer the highs and lows following Glos that I do with the Gas, but it has a visual appeal that`s out on it`s own.

Yippee!! The Hundred: Trent Rockets and Southern Brave to open competition on 1st August 2023.

All fixtures this season will be double-headers, with both the men's and women's competitions starting at the same time.

The women's tournament started later in 2022 because of a clash with the Commonwealth Games.

The men's and women's finals for the Hundred's third season will take place on 27 August at Lord's.

Trent Rockets are the reigning men's champions and start their defence on home soil, while Oval Invincibles, who will be aiming for a third successive women's title, begin their campaign at home against London Spirit.

Franchises will take part in a player draft for 2023, which is set to take place on 2 March - and this season will be the first time the women's competition has a draft.

Invincibles and England batter Lauren Winfield-Hill said: "Lifting the trophy with my Oval Invincibles team-mates last year was a career highlight that I'll never forget.

"The first-ever women's draft is definitely going to bring an exciting new element to the game and it will be interesting to see how the teams shape up for another fierce competition."

Across both competitions, teams are expected to announce which players they have retained from 2022 on 16 February.

Despite the success of the women's competition, none of the matchdays have a women's fixture scheduled as the second game of the day.

Last year, the opening match of the women's tournament between Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers was played in the evening slot, after the men had played in the afternoon.

A spokesperson for The Hundred said: "The Hundred has had a big impact on women's cricket in England and Wales since its launch in 2021, helping to increase the profile of the women's game and giving more fans than ever the chance to watch top-class women's cricket.

"Last year once again set a new global record for total attendance at a women's cricket competition, with 271,000 people attending The Hundred and we look forward to another exciting year in 2023.

"With the success of the competition in its first two years, we'll be sticking with the formula which fans of The Hundred are familiar with for 2023, but scheduling is something that we keep under constant review."

It’s interesting to me that all the plus points the ECB spokeman /statement are highlighting are to do with the Women’s game, Men’s game doesn’t get a mention. So now the plan of the ECB becomes a little clearer, they are prepared to sacrifice the County Championship and red ball cricket and it’s scheduling on the alter of gender equality. And will now judge its success or otherwise on its impact on the Women’s game. I have no problem with a National Corporation, the BBC, the Civil Service, or any firm doing that but I have a real gripe with a sports governing body doing that. At least they are being very open about what they are doing by their actions even if they will not admit it openly.
Although if they struggle to find a sponsor for the competition it may not be much of a success. I would have thought any would-be sponsor would want to get all the advantages of the draft and publicity in Feb. The ECB need to get their skates on.

The Hundred can be the "second-best" franchise competition after the Indian Premier League, says England managing director of men's cricket Rob Key.

Key said the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) must ensure The Hundred pays players enough to compete with franchise leagues around the world.

The third edition of the 100-ball tournament, launched by the ECB in 2020, takes place from 1-27 August.

"We have to concentrate on ourselves," Key told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We need to make sure that our competition is good enough and pays enough."

The Indian Premier League (IPL), which started in 2008, is the world's biggest T20 franchise competition.

India's men's players do not participate in franchise leagues other than the IPL, with the money they earn from the tournament helping to ensure they do not need to.

"I don't see why our competition can't be second-best to the IPL," said Key.

"It can also be a better standard than the IPL because we've got more strength in depth in white-ball cricket than any other country."

Australia's Big Bash League started in 2011, with the Women's Big Bash beginning four years later.

There are other high-profile franchise leagues in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, while South Africa launched its SA20 competition earlier this year.

The first edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), a women's version of the IPL, took place in March, with England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt earning £320,000. The top women's players in The Hundred earn £31,250.

The likes of the IPL, WPL and SA20 pay players more than The Hundred because they are funded by private investment, which Key accepted is a challenge.

"That money might not be there at the moment," he said.

"The top salary in The Hundred is £125,000 but you don't mind that at the moment because we are building towards something in the years to come, and the money will go up.

"That's how we will get the money and that alongside the central contracts will put English cricket in a great place."

The first edition of Major League Cricket in the United States starts in July.

With Major League Cricket clashing with the British summer, and vast sums on offer, there is a concern players could opt out of The Hundred and even England white-ball fixtures to play in the USA instead.

However, Key said he feels that is unlikely and making The Hundred a more attractive offer for players will prevent that happening.

"I don't see any time, certainly in the near future, where a Test player or centrally-contracted player says, 'I'm off to America for three weeks' - that's not a threat at the moment," said Key.

"There is no reason why we cannot have a better league than the American league. There's no reason why we can't sort out our franchise competition so that players say, 'Why would I go to America? I'll stay here and play in our competition'."

"What we want is a bit more control to be able to say yes or no, and be in the right position to say, 'No, you can't go and play there, we are looking after you really well here anyway'.

"So we've got to focus on our own game and invest well to make sure we can afford to pay people enough in the future."

Yes, the noises coming out of the ECB and the exit of Strauss and the ECB’s Chief Operating Officer, David Mahoney following the rejection of the plans to reorganise cricket according to Strauss make for an organisation having a few problems. We are likely to have some kind of phoney summer, Hundred-wise. The ECB a will continue to spin the success of the competition at the same time as they are trying to find an ‘honourable’ way out without completely upsetting Sky and looking like complete burks. Not withstanding breaking the Sky contract which lasts until 2028 I think.
The potential disaster facing the cricket counties if the ECB make the possible losses they are talking about makes me want it to succeed in a way because the impact of failure upon all cricket in this country could be devastating. Counties are between a rock and a hard place.
It’s hard to know a big decision that the ECB has got right over the past few years, they are totally inept. Andrew Strauss must have known had he done his research properly that a large proportion of cricket, spectators, clubs and players were totally against his proposals. Yet he persevered with pushing them through. A large mistake.
And now this, the ECB is in some disarray.

It appears as though they cannot say if the 100 is making a profit or a loss. When you hear that then it's nearly certain it's making a loss, which is rumoured to be around 12m pounds a year.
No Ashes Test cricket in August because of the 100. The ECB have made a shocking decision with that.
