Got to mention this, but in August next year (Ashes series at home) there will be no Test cricket played in August as the England players are needed to be on duty for The Hundred ! What genius thought this up! Tom Harrison, the ex CEO of the ECB. Now he’s been sacked, sorry, moved elsewhere, sorry, resigned to spend more time with his family, the ECB and his successor will be looking for ways to avoid this own goal. Not that anyone will admit it but I suspect that if the ECB knew then what they know now the whole debacle would not have happened. They would also still have something like £79m still in the coffers.

Oval Invincibles Women v Northern Superchargers Women Live on the BBC 6.30pm It wasn’t a bad match. Superchargers should have got 180/190+ after their first 40 balls but the Invincible bowlers came back well and were just about in charge of what they were doing when they batted. And btw, before anyone accuses me of being a hypocrite, they would be quite right. I do feel a bit of a fraud saying what a bad competition it is for cricket but watching it. My only excuse is that I love cricket and I do enjoy watching it on my iPad in the evening in the garden, very peaceful, very enjoyable at the end of the day to do that.

I`d sooner sit and read a good book. Or even a Jeffrey Archer. It`s exhibition stuff, rather than proper sport. It reminds me of the Home Run Derbys, that take place before baseball matches in the States. The hors d'oeuvre, before the proper meal.
Of course it`s exciting to see players attempt to hit the ball over the international space station. But not every one.
To me, what makes cricket interesting, is the balance between bat and ball. Once you have pitches prepared for batting, and fewer than 50 overs per side, that balance is absent.
Each to their own, but it does nothing for me.

That’s all fair enough alf. Watching it gives me a Victor Meldrew attitude in so far as the batsmen just give a Sunday afternoon swing yet thecommentators try and portray it as a skill, completely bonkers. The skill level of many of the players is very poor though they are good at looking like rabbits caught in headlights. And I do plenty of reading. But life here atm is very hectic with stuff so just to sit and watch cricket on the iPad in the garden at the end of the day is good. Shame it has to be the Hundred but I’ve also watched the Somerset stream when available and other forms. But on occasion it’s the Hundred and yah you grasp an hours peacefulness and calm when you can!! 😉

I`m off out into the back garden now, with a few bottles that I put in the fridge prior to today`s game.
There`s a band just down the road, playing a medley of Stones songs. Fortunately, I like Stones songs. UTG!

I can't take any sport seriously that makes up nicknames with no basis. Trent Rockets - A facility exists to launch rockets into space in Nottingham. Lies. London Spirit - Gin or Vodka. I mean with 2000+ years of history that's all they can come up with? Birmingham Phoenix - Oh, a Club that had died and miraculously been re-born. Lies. Manchester Originals - As opposed to what other Club? Oval Invincibles - What? That they have never ever lost a game of "the 100"? Lies. Northern Superchargers - WTF? Just random nonsense. Southern Brave - Why are they brave? What idiot thought up that name? Is there a link to native Americans? Be careful Exeter "Chiefs" got into trouble on that one. Welsh Fire - Why? I mean why? That's why it's crap and I've never watched a ball bowled.

If I want to watch batters try to smash every ball sent in their direction, I will watch baseball.
