One thing about Matty Taylor.
He seems to have a very intelligent football head on his shoulders. About 3-4 times yesterday he was anticipating blind balls being switched across the Grimsby back four or going back to the keeper. He's going to catch that ball one time and it's going to bring us joy. Very impressed with the positions he was picking up and it was a shame he wasn't able to tuck his one on one away. Keep it up Matty.

As you may have seen before I'm a fan of playing 3 at the back. However I don't think it worked for us today. I'm hopeful it'll work in the future. Maybe The Rovers shouldn't be shouting the fact that that's how we're going to play for weeks leading up to the season. Grimsby had plenty of chance to come up with a plan on how to play us being 99% sure we'd be playing 3 at the back.Didn't I hear (or read, I can't remember which) that Grimsby had a about five players not able to selected due to injury and suspension? And a brand new, virtually untested manager as well. Their centre forward was only signed on Friday, so I would expect that when they're up and running they might prove to be a bit more of a test for quite a few teams. Are you saying that because the manager was a raw recruit, the fact they had five players out and the CF was only signed Friday that the manager wouldn't already have in mind how to play against a 3-5-2? I would have thought that knowing we'd be playing that way the manager would have been picking a team to nullify it and exploit the weaknesses. I agree with you that Grimsby might be a force to be reckoned with when at full strength. We shall see.
