Used to pop into the Sandringham after a Saturday game and not hear a peep for seasons, now all of a sudden the comments about the shirt or programme my cousin and I might have.... You all been hibernating in Downend? And no, 1982 is nowt to do with me. Take that one up with my old man or granddad. Before my time that. All been hibernating you should try the Trident

Nothing has surprised me over the past two years. We have been a very together squad as shown by when it goes wrong the team and DC have always recovered and usually go on a good run. But the defence and midfield are largely what we had in the Conference and DC has been very sensible in adding to the squad bit by bit and always strengthening it. He hasn't brought in too many players just to add to the squad. But I am surprised by the lack of respect being spoken on here about s*** this and s*** that in league 1. These teams are in league 1 for a reason, they are better than league 2 and the conference and not as good as the Championship. That's why they are where they are. We got out of the Conference because from September onwards we always gave real respect to all the other teams. We never acted like we were too good or too big for the league. We accepted where we were and played accordingly. This season has been just the same, we have respected the teams we played and with DC and several players coming from non league I think that helped. I also think we could do well next season but to do so we will need to keep a similar attitude and show the greatest respect to all these other so-called s*** teams people are talking about. I am more confident about DC and the team having the right attitude than some fans and let's not allow a Bristol **** fan to come on here and try and ingratiate himself by saying everyone is s*** in this league and he was embarrassed to be in it. They were in it for a reason just like us. DC got his recruitment spot on in Summer 15 and in Summer 16. I remember last Summer Camb U and Notts Co buying about 15 new players and everyone saying they would be in the hunt for promotion on the basis of the quantity they got in. We got quality in and very few of them but Lines, Bodin have been significant. With a similar recruitment policy this year I am sure we will have a good season, it might not be play offs but after the last 4 years I would settle for mid table security and sustained improvement as a club which that would be. I am made up that we are where we are and I will happily show the greatest respect to all the teams in this league and will probably say thank you to Manse for May 15 and Lee B for May 16 every day this summer! Come on Rovers! UTG! ps I'm now going to put my hard hat on because I know lots will disagree. Your post is spot on and we don't need to have that long a memory to recall a certain previous manager who was allowed to carry out a similar recruitment policy and look where that got us (although it did get us Lee Brown).

It's not too bad if you know them in there. My dad went in there for years and the Cross Hands in Fishponds which could get a tad lively.
I've grown up around Downend and Fishponds before I moved away so I know most of those pubs and people.
It's actually the other side of the city I don't really know.

Cross Hands Fishponds?
Yeah I reckon 10 years or so.
The landlord used to be a bouncer from Sunderland. Certainly didn't need to employ any doormen with him there.
Few in there would play up with "non locals" - they used to attend Gas games a fair bit. They worked for my dad on the building sites.
But no you're right I've not been in a while. Fishponds has gone right downhill in general since I was a kid there though.

won't be easy. Back-to-back promotion has made me more happy and excited than I can express on here, don't get me wrong. But I hope we can sign the current and new players required to survive in a much much better division. Players who took us from non league to the third division have earned a chance to play in it. But we will need to improve seriously to be a competitive club in the third division. Thank everything holy that we have an owner and chairman apparently with the funds, nous, and style to make a football club into a competitive third division business. Thank the same that we have a manager and team spirit with the dynamicism and will to play competitive third division football rather than unispiring basement division hoofball. Promotion next year is not a serious target. But I honestly believe we can succeed now. I believe next season we can climb high enough in the third division to avoid dogged relegation struggle and instead play real competitive football. I'd love a big FA Cup Third Round tie again too. Isn't it nice actually to love the whole club again? Promotion not a serious target !!! Don't whisper that anywhere near DC. He said very clearly a few weeks back he cannot understand any manager coming out with words like this at beginning of seasons as looking for consolidation. He made it clear he was only in it to win it and had no other attitude but to put together a project to get promotion. We will wait and see

If DC really considers his job for next season to manage a campaign for a third consecutive promotion, then good luck to him, and I'm delighted by his ambition. I just think that the third division is a good quality division, and that a team only one year ago facing only Conference opponents will have a difficult time finishing in the top seven. That would be immense, and amazing.
