won't be easy. Back-to-back promotion has made me more happy and excited than I can express on here, don't get me wrong. But I hope we can sign the current and new players required to survive in a much much better division.
Players who took us from non league to the third division have earned a chance to play in it. But we will need to improve seriously to be a competitive club in the third division.
Thank everything holy that we have an owner and chairman apparently with the funds, nous, and style to make a football club into a competitive third division business.
Thank the same that we have a manager and team spirit with the dynamicism and will to play competitive third division football rather than unispiring basement division hoofball.
Promotion next year is not a serious target. But I honestly believe we can succeed now. I believe next season we can climb high enough in the third division to avoid dogged relegation struggle and instead play real competitive football. I'd love a big FA Cup Third Round tie again too.
Isn't it nice actually to love the whole club again?

What's there to hang about for when the money's there? Get in the Championship as soon as possible and get the stadium built. Steve Hamer said "We're not here to lanquish". There's no reason to because we won't hit a wall of reality in League 1 like the last time. There are no nagging doubts about the team's ability to stay up. No patchwork team of journeymen needed to survive, it's sustainable for the first time ever. Sit back and milk it because we certainly deserve it after all the years of hope and despair. Up, Up, Up the Gas!

I'm hoping for the same sensible policy we had at the start of this season. A bit of experience, the odd up and coming gem, and further changes as required during the season. All with the focus on the character of the player, not just the talent.
18 wins since November, 1 defeat since February, all indicates that we deserved to be promoted and that the current players should hold their own in the division above. Besides, signing a load of players is no guarantee of success, on the contrary could well harm the team spirit that has got us this far.

With a commitment to retain the whole squad - does beg the question where is the space for new signings? Refreshed by Wael's comments that it is up to Darrell who he signs. Worst case is when the owner goes shopping and presents new players to the manager unsettling the squad dynamic and squandering money

Worst case is when the owner goes shopping and presents new players to the manager unsettling the squad dynamic and squandering money There is a commitment to offer the whole squad a contract - doesn't necessarily mean its a good one or one that is right for the player or their career. I think that is the subtle difference and similar to how we lost Bob Monkhouse last year, others may leave for a better deal elsewhere, freeing up room.

Same as I said before this season, there is nothing to fear in this league.
There are a few big names like Sheff Utd, Bolton, Millwall. MK Dongers may be a force.
I think Burton have shown the way forward here.
It's nice to be in a semi-decent league again!!

We better get past the first 2 rounds first? Absolutely. What I meant to imply was that I would wish for sustainable strengthening of the squad to enable continued passing/attacking/attractive football, top half comfort from relegation worries, and also selection of a team for first and second round FA Cup ties capable of taking us to one of those big third round draws. I know the league progression is more important and has to come first, but for a lot of fans, getting to and performing well at a big third round tie means a lot. They can be lucrative fixtures, and we know gasheads can travel in numbers to big awayday stadia. It's what we do.

Lucrative fixtures?!?
League 1 is a s**thole full of s**t clubs with tiny little s**t grounds. With the exception of Sheff Utd and Coventry, it was a league I was embarrassed to be in!

I speak the truth though.
Having a think about it there is little to fear in that league.
I used to say Sheff U but they've been down there so long now they've become not hard to beat.
I went away most weeks in the promotion season and it's a league full of ordinary clubs in s**thole grounds. Oldham, Fleetwood, Gillingham, Walsall, Swindon etc etc
Like I said it was embarrassing to be going to places like that.
Nothing to fear.

Camping? No thanks.
You guys might be used to travelling around and moving sites, playing with tents at one end of the ground etc.
But that's not the circles we mix in now.

Well the only time I have ever been on OTIB (what a laugh that is) was when I was asking for good luck messages. As for Brakspear, as an ex landlord it is dirty water! would never stock it let alone drink the stuff, Wychwood is the drink of choice.
