I admit that I find away attendances interesting, probably because I only go to away games. Some of the games are night matches,so not direct comparisons even if they are the same distance away. My admiration is to the 190 Rovers supporters who travelled to Hartlepool for a night game. Funny that Rovers lowest Saturday attendance was 386 to Morecambe, more than city took to Burnley,I would have thought that a game v Burnley in the Championship was a bigger draw than away at Morecambe in League 2. I think that Rovers away attendance is about 14% of the home gate, pretty good ( but not unique),its so easy to travel to away games now compared to the 70s when I started going that I cant understand why more people don't travel ?. Funny how the numbers drop as you go further north yet the games against southern clubs are well attended. Thanks for posting the information.

Hartlepool was indeed a hardcore trip. 4am return on the mini bus, but absolutely worth every second of my time and every penny spent! Total domination of a football match, with three splendid goals to seal it. That & Luton will take some beating for 'best away game' this season IMO.

Now you've done it. This will be all over otib, with them claiming that you missed out the millions that they took to West Brom.

Interesting information. Thanks.
If you were Looking at the stats in ignorance, you would say these two clubs are very similar in terms of fan base.

Both Bristol clubs travel in relatively good numbers, but then again we are from a large city. I think the main thing you can take from those stats is that teams who are having a good season generally have a good away support, whereas teams who are having a poor season, don't take as many as the normally would.

You can imagine how much more impressive our figures would have been if the away capacities at Exeter ,Yeovil & Wimbledon were larger as all those 3 sold out.

You can probably add another 6/700 to the Dagenham figure, when I was there it appeared as if we occupied just under half the away stand that holds 2,000 and when they announced our attendance at the end of the game I just thought, that doesn't seem right. Looking at the highlights of the game I was wrong, we actually occupied two thirds of it. Our attendance was blatantly understated by Dagenham.

They took 50 to Hull on a Tuesday night whilst languishing at the bottom of league one only a couple of seasons back.
They can't touch us for away support and they know it.

I don't think that city supporters travel in 'good'numbers looking at these figures. Even at the beginning of the season before things went wrong for them the numbers are less than 10% of their home crowd, what is so good about that ?. I think looking at the amount that they took to Boro and Burnley ( and fair play to those that went ),that their hard core away support is about the same as Rovers, but they are 2 divisions higher with better teams to visit. I agree with you that more will travel when their team are doing well ( home attendances increase as well) but Rovers away support was good last season in the Conference when the club were at a low ebb,I know that some people enjoyed the novelty of visiting new grounds. Some good away fixtures coming up for Rovers, the only thing that will keep the away support down is the number of tickets provided at Portsmouth,Wycombe and Newport.

Any club that averages over 1000 away during a s**te season is doing pretty well. I think success on the pitch (i.e league position) generally leads to bigger crowds at home and away rather than what actual division you are in. I'm pretty sure that if we were low to mid table in League One, we wouldn't be getting the support we do at the moment.

Mansfield away was my favourite and it felt like more than 850. That was a match that just had everything. We love being part of the that amazing band of BRFC away supporters and if, work commitments did not interfere, would be at every one.

I have some complementary away day stat. Will get them when i get home. From my memory our average away trip this season so far has been a 300 round trip from bristol.
Of course we don't all travel from bristol but it gives an indication.
Re city i really don't get this 2 big atendqnces a season malarkey. I actually find it quite sad that 5000 will go to WBA ( which is impressive) but only a few hndred to burnley.

I'm sure they would have taken big numbers anyway though. I think we also have to bear in mind that away tickets in the Championship cost more than in our league, on the other hand I have to pay £6.60 toll bridge fee for most away games

I was genuinely shocked that Leeds was £36 and even kids were £18. disgusting. I realise there are some special issues going on with Leeds and Sheff Wed, to name two. There are some bargains out there (I got into the away end for Stoke vs Norwich, PL, for £15!) but if you religiously go to every away game you will get bashed quite often sadly.

Do you fancy working out the mileages as well? For the record, Rovers have travelled approx. 4020 miles so far this season, City have travelled approx. 4640. The extra 620 miles has obviously taken it out of the poor dabs. Well you did ask!
