From the Bristol Post report . . . Another piece of the jigsaw falls into place then. But he's never played for Salisbury so he doesn't tick all the boxes. Agreed. But then again, perhaps enough of them?

And he hasnt played for us before, so barely ticks any at all to be honest. Rather than as a winger, think he could be a good option as the most advanced central midfielder if we're going to play 3-5-2. Would rather we invest any funds we have in securing Gaffney, but if we can get him as well then he's certainly different to anything we already have.

Remember seeing him play for mansfield way back when, haven't seen much of him recently but if he's half the player he was then it should be good business. Just don't let him take a penalty if we do get to the play off finals, I remember what happened last time he took one in a league 2 play off final....

I will never forget that night back in September 2003 when Keith Curle's Mansfield side completely outplayed us, Liam Lawrence was one of the best players I've ever seen at the Mem. He went on to play 80 times in the premier league, has 15 international caps, even at 34 this will be a sensational signing.

A Shrews mate of mine says would be great in L2 but found out for pace in L1. All that experience cannot be sniffed at - great signing if we can get him.

Seems a bit odd if we paid a fee for him (is that confirmed?).

Me too, half the crowd buggered off to the pub at half time and it was bloody freezing on the Blackthorn End

Seems pretty definite, McNamara has said it but that guy is basically a mouthpiece for Nick Higgs, as far as I have seen anyway. Let's see if DC plays him now. You just never know.

In all honesty this signing (if true)will not cover up the fact that we appear to have lost out on getting Gaffney. It is far more important to get a big striker in who can score goals as it has been proved in the last five games that we are far more effective with Gaffney in than any of the others and I have seen enough of Harrison to say that at the present time he appears to offer very little if his performance against Wimbledon was anything to go by.As regards Lawrence he is another player who could effectively play in place of Ollie Clarke in either a 3-5-2 or in a 4-4-2 where we play with one winger and sacrifice the other. Our problem as far as I can see is that we will continue to not have a pacy winger who DC will give an extended run to or a big strong striker. Montano may yet be a good winger if given the chance as he gave a good performance the other week and was "rewarded" with being dropped the next game and has not appeared since. This ,of course,is very much a results business but IMO we will be entering the Barnet game with a weaker team unless we get in a big striker. If nobody comes in today then we are back to the frustrating state we were in before Gaffney arrived and the momentum given by him will get lost.

Suspect the plan was to get both, which makes sense, but looks like the wheels may be coming off one half of the plan. Maybe there is a Plan B....rings a bell that phrase!

Looking at the games in which Gaffney played again on video, signing him must be a priority although, Cambridge seem to be giving two fingers to Rovers.

We can't sign him if they won't let him go. We have to hope they sign one of their targets and need to offload him. Until then, we (the club, not the fans) should probably stop talking about him altogether.
Cambridge apparently want the chap at Chesterfield who has been on loan at Stevenage. I can't remember his name. Let's hope they get him.

If Cambridge are able to get their preferred target(s) in, then it could all take off again. But one thing is for certain, unless we are prepared to offer them ''big'' money, they're sitting tight for the time being.

From being prepared to offload him for absolutely nothing and having a verbal agreement with DC, to 'he's a Cambridge player, he only went on loan for fitness, we're the ones who brought him over from Ireland', in just over a week. Derry is a total s**thouse. Hope he gets nothing out the ginger hero & sits miserably in midtable all the way till May.
