Three wins on the trot and the confidence that this is bringing is clear to see in the performance of every player.
We look IMO much stronger as a squad from last season due mainly to the brilliant Clarke at the back, the finding of form by Ollie Clarke and the availability of Sinclair but also that touch of class that Easter brings.
Chapman 7 Looked shaky on one cross early on but then looked composed and made a fantastic save with his feet in the first half. His size makes him very imposing when high crosses come in and I actually feel confident again when corners come in. The defence looks so solid with him in goal and it will be interesting to see whether Clarke considers him to be the keeper we want for the season or just another loan. I do prefer to have our own keeper and hope something is tied up before the transfer deadline.
Leadbitter 8 Any time is a bad time to get an injury but the injury today could not have come at a worst time for Danny. Superb is the only way to describe his performance today apart from one bad defensive moment . He really has found a rich vein of form and had finally IMO "beat" the competition and made the right wingback position his own. It is ironic that I was only saying last week that the two wingbacks are so key to our formation but with that came the problem that we have 3 wingers who cannot get a game but no natural replacements for either Leadbitter or Brown. Can only hope that he isn't out for too long but looked like a hamstring gone.
Brown 8 Back to his very best and good both defensively and offensively with a good goal thrown in for good measure. Lee was getting forward with good effect for the first time really since Monkhouse has left. Rarely gave the ball away and gave good service to both the midfield and the strikers as he worked his way down the left.
Parkes 8 Thankfully Parkes has regained his top form and gave another impressive performance of strength in the defence both in the air and on the ground. A few misplaced passes but looked comfortable with the ball at his feet and in all honesty the central defence of Clarke, Lockyer and Parkes looks to me to be the most solid defence we have had for years.
Clarke J 8.5 I personally think he is the last piece of the jigsaw to what I would describe as an outstanding defence in the last three games. Has the ability to play the ball out and is as strong as McCrystal in the air but has the benefit of a bit of pace which has previously always been a missing ingredient on our defence. It is difficult to understand why he hasn't played at this standard regularly before and could well go on to be the best of all DC's signings.
Lockyer 9 MOM An outstanding performance from Tom who finally surely has cemented a permanent place in central defence. Being in his favoured position has seemed to eradicate his passing deficiences and has formed a perfect understanding with James Clarke. I have given him MOM because IMO keeping Akinde quiet was key to the result and he certainly made Akinde look very ordinary.
Outstanding performance in every respect.
Sinclair 7.5 Yet another performance full of effort and running. Stu really is a joy to watch and an inspirational player to all his team mates. It was pleasing to see him also perform well in the wingback position as well as centrally and i am sure that the Barnet supporter who was critical of his abilities as a footballer based on I don't know what would have left the game wishing they had players of similar ability.
Lines 7 Chris Lines provided the Class in the midfield particularly in the second half. He set up two goals and was unlucky not to score himself. Two "different" corners surprised Barnet and he worked hard and spread the ball around with the perfect foils in Sinclair and Ollie Clarke. This was much more like the Lines of last season and we really look strong in the midfield area.
Clarke O 9 in any other game would have been my man of the match for his performance but was pipped by Lockyer only because of the importance of keeping Akinde quiet to obtaining three points.Three good games on the trot and it seems that Ollie is at last coming good and is going to make it very difficult for DC to bring Mansell back and that in itself is the biggest compliment i can pay Ollie . This was a tigerish performance which showed a range of passing which was both accurate and varied. Worked his socks off and was a real General in the middle of the park which at last belied his age. All I can really say is keep this up Ollie and you will become the most improved player.
Harrison 7 Hard working but for me this was one of his quieter games against a very good defender.
Easter 7.5 At last a deserved goal which he took clinically and was unlucky not to have a couple more. Shows class in his general play and brings others into the game at every opportunity and for me is a very good footballer whose fitness is improving with each game. I see no reason why he shouldn't get at least into double figures this season
Taylor 7 Only on the field for a short time but took his goal superbly. Just wish he could stay on his feet more often as the referee was again not going to be fooled. Think this might be his role in the short term- coming on when either Ellis or Easter tires but there again he may be worth starting next week as he does tend to score in patches. Perhaps this is the start of a purple patch!!
Gosling 7 Wouldn't have been my choice as first substitute but well done DC again because I thought Gosling did a lot of good things particularly when he went into central midfield. Really has the ability to me a much better player in that he can pick a forward pass and keep hold of the ball.Well worth a place in the squad and with Montano as well as Bodin we really have strength in this squad.
Bodin 6 Showed some good touches and worked hard but difficult really to judge on such a short appearance but he did come very close to scoring his first League goal for us and looks like he could be a useful squad member.
Barnet 5 Not much actual football played by them and it certainly seems that if you keep Akinde quiet then you keep Barnet quiet. That said they are an awkward side to play against but for the second match running our defence kept a well known p-layer (Aaron McLean)
quiet to the point of being substituted.
Gas heads 7 Another good turnout and provided good vocal support that I am sure had Martin Allen purring. You can just tell that he so wished he was in DC's shoes!
That said it is strange that we should lose so many supporters from the first home game.Surely we will take all tickets for next weeks game against Orient,
DC 9 Can't really fault anything that DC did yesterday. Team selection IMO was spot on and whilst I didn't agree with Gosling coming on it proved to be a good move. Lost shape a bit for a while after Leadbitter's unfortunate exit but DC changed it a bit and we regained control of the match. Was disappointed to see Blissett go out on loan but glad to see that DC intends to bring in another targetman as we definitely need that option. The quality of what he brings in now will determine how the season progresses but i have every confidence that DC can provide us with another exciting season and if he does surely it wont be long before we can be looking at regular crowds over 8000.
Referee 7 Made some poor decisions but overall I felt he gave a good performance and tried to keep the game moving and was more lenient to Barnet but we won so who cares.I would rather watch a game of 11 v 11 than over zealous refereeing ending in a sending off. He certainly wasn't going to fall for Matty Taylor's falling over!!
Good to get our first home win following two good away wins and 4th must be our highest position for a long time but the most important thing in my book is that we look so solid defensively and only opened by an unfortunate deflection for their goal and also in midfield we seem to have an understanding between Sinclair,Clarke and Lines over who does what and this seemed to really peak in the second half where Lines really started to influence the game and take it to Barnet and really they could have no complaints and were probably lucky to only concede three. It is impressive that we lost probably our best player and after an initial 15 minutes where we seemed to struggle to get our grip back on the game ,DC made a couple of switches and we dominated again. I am such that Martin Allen must have jealously looked at the strength of our squad as we made all three substitutions and yet still had the three M's Mansell,Montano and Monakana unused. The big question now is who will DC bring in before the deadline? I would settle for a big targetman to enable us to change style of play and maybe another wing back or an experienced playmaker. I do hope we keep our two loaned players as Chapman looks the part and Monakana we haven't really had a chance to see much of yet.
So its on to a really big game next week against the only team with maximum points and on their patch.Lets get every ticket sold and UTG.
