Easter Compton, joint scheme with Bristol City. Plenty of funding in place for that one and Redrow keen to deal. Sadly the Environmental agency weren't keen.

I had a book when I was about 13(I cant for the life of me remember what it was titled) circa 1993-94 all about old grounds and the imminent plans for modern all seaters, and there was a double page spread in the centre of the book with an artists impression of Rovers supposed new stadium plans.
I gather that would of been possibly Easter compton or maybe Severnside?
40,000 capacity and one of the best stadiums in Europe I seem to recall it saying, that could just be me dreaming that bit though.

It's a bit sad really, but most of our new stadia plans have been long forgotten by myself, mostly because I never really believed that they would ever come to fruition anyway. The only thing that I can remember with any clarity (I think  ) is when we were supposed to be building a stadium close to the M5 interchange in the marshlands at Avonmouth. That failed because we had the funding in place for the stadium itself (allegedly), but the problem seemed to be who would pay for the link road from a roundabout to the stadium itself. In any event perhaps there will be some merit in the following article, dated September 2006 . . . In the meantime, round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round, ad nauseam. |

The club also had a proposal in 1955 to build a new stadium in Speedwell near what is now the school close to what is now Broad Plain Rugby Club.
The Supporters Club meanwhile paid for the new North Stand and floodlights at Eastville so they decided to re develop instead of moving. Greyhound racing and a well supported second division (Championship) football club with average gates of 20,000 pushing for First Division football. What was not to like .....where did it all go wrong ?

I drew a picture of a potential ground for a Year 6 School Project I did on Rovers. It had two tiers behind each goal and three on either side and was to built near the M32. It had a capacity of 91,883 and has stands named after Geoff Bradford, Smash & Grab, Peter Beadle and Stuart Taylor. I'll try and dig it out to show you all.

There were two schemes fairly close. The first being near Avonmouth the second around 13 years ago was on the land now occupied by the Severn approach business park where Airbus, RoyalMail etc are located.
Redrow had planning for industrial but offered to give up land for a stadium if residential was allowed there. The environment agency chucked it out at the first hurdle due to it being a designated flood plain so ok for warehousing but not homes.
