Sadly it seems the vile man Blatter was not one of those arrested.

Not many times the Americans get plaudits but this should certainly be one of them. Wonder if any member's of the forum will object as some of the evidence appears to have come from a wiretap?

Sadly it seems the vile man Blatter was not one of those arrested. Not yet, there is no way that he didn't know what was going on, no matter if he was involved in the bribery or not, knowing about it and doing nothing, makes him just as liable as anyone who did take bribes.

Presumably depends if the wiretap was obtained legally Really? Or if the wire tap was on the phone of a twelve year old girl who had been murdered, falsely giving her parents hope that she was alive because her voice mail had been checked.

This is worth a read. www.justice.gov/opa/pr/nine-fifa-officials-and-five-corporate-executives-indicted-racketeering-conspiracy-and It suggests that the corruption and fraud was systemic throughout footballing officialdom (FIFA?)...Quote “The indictment alleges corruption that is rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted both abroad and here in the United States,” said Attorney General Lynch.
“It spans at least two generations of soccer officials who, as alleged, have abused their positions of trust to acquire millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks. And it has profoundly harmed a multitude of victims, from the youth leagues and developing countries that should benefit from the revenue generated by the commercial rights these organizations hold, to the fans at home and throughout the world whose support for the game makes those rights valuable.
Today’s action makes clear that this Department of Justice intends to end any such corrupt practices, to root out misconduct, and to bring wrongdoers to justice – and we look forward to continuing to work with other countries in this effort.”I see also that Jack Warner's son Daryll has pleaded guilty to fraud. Will be interesting to see if he is taking the rap for his Dad or is about to give evidence against him.

So at last someone has done something about FIFA. many people have had their suspicions about FIFA . Must admit I was surprised as to which country instigated the arrests!! The Americans take bribery and corruption very seriously - certainly more than we do. (Take MPs expences scandal for instance - nearly everyone was 'at-it' but only a few got charged) I have seen a footballer in America sent off for swearing! In this country we would have no football if that was applied.

Istm Americans take corruption that is against their national interests very seriously, and are happy to turn a blind eye to corruption that might be in the national interest. Like a lot of countries. Also, US politicians' expenses uses a completely different system to our Parliament and is essentially legalised bribery, however you look at it.

Wrong Antonio. US authorities take bribery very seriously. If a company want to operate in the US, then they had better not get caught handing out (or receiving) bribes somewhere else in the world.

The entire foreign policy of the US Govt over the past seventy years has been based on bribing foreigners.

The fact that US Dollars were used in the bribes etc makes America involved and gives them the right to run things with the arrests and getting those arrested brought over to America.

Fashionable in certain circles to hate all things American whilst ignoring the alternatives and the track record of other nations. It's so we can enjoy the freedoms we get from the blood of young American men, whilst feeling guilt free for any wrongdoing in the act of it.
the US foreign policy is benign when compared to any other superpower. Obviously there are many countries who don't have the military power to have a foreign policy.
Don't forget the yanks save millions of Muslims from murder in the Balkans, whilst the friendly, left leaning EU did nothing for years.
Not perfect, but I'd rather live in a US dominated world than any other.

Surely there is no way on this earth, Blatter isn't fully in the know about what's been going on here.
3 days tops and he is in cuffs!
