I'm fairly sure a one-off read is hardly an obsession compared to a 320 page thread on us? Just so long as you didn't read all 320 pages, I think that's just about acceptable I read the last page and instantly thought 'what a bunch of asshats'

I don't agree with that statement. I have actively supported BRFC since 1957, and I really do believe that there has always been rivalry between the two clubs during my time as a supporter of BRFC. Goodness knows that I had to endure enough banter during the 1960s and right up to the end of the 1970s in particular from workmates et al, at a time when we didn't seem to do so well against the other mob. The difference was that at that time the rivalry was good natured and of the friendly variety. But where I would agree with your post to a degree, was that the rivalry stopped being as friendly after 1982, or even possibly a while before that. Then it became decidedly more edgy, in fact not friendly at all. It may have something to do with their demise in 1982, or it might be linked to how society has changed since then, or it might even be a combination of the two. Who knows? But I do miss the days when both sets of supporters used to mingle on the terraces, and enjoy a laugh and joke. It seems a lifetime ago now, and in fairness I suppose that it is for some of us. I enjoy the banter with them enormously, the giving and the taking, so long as the spirit is right. There really is no need for any unpleasant verbals or violence in my opinion. But to answer the question posed by the thread, I don't believe that their supporters are obsessed with us, as others have said they are laughing at us . . . and with good reason too. We have become a laughing stock to them, almost an irrelevance, and an embarrassment to ourselves, and until we redress that situation then they will continue to laugh at us. Thankfully we seem to be heading in the right direction now. The club you hated is dead, the club you now hate is a zombie. They're not the same club, they never will be, they are a zombie now. I dpn't think that I hate anybody or anything.

I get the `one team in Bristol jibe most often. Response: really.......if there really was one team in bristol, you wouldn't sing it. Do Sunderland, oxford, Portsmouth, Newcastle etc supporters walk around singing there's only one team in Sunderland, one team in......get the drift.
Also, FACT. We are the first and only true football club left. No football, rugby, hockey, tiddlywinks here!
P.s. I wouldn't go on their forum if you paid me. (Unless it was a lot) ha ha.

I'm fascinating how many Teds have to comment or react to comments left on my blog each week. I don't imagine many of us even read a blog about the goings on at Ashton Gate That is bang on the money as far as I am concerned anyway. I have no interest in them whatsoever. I know a lot of people who support them and a lot of them are good people but when they start talking about their team I just glaze over. I am not trying to be rude it's just that I dont give a toss and have never heard of any of their players. I want them to fail only because their success could eat into our potential support base.

Bristol City you say? Are you sure you have got that right? I heard Lansdown on the cutting edge show subs bench last week talking about Bristol Sport, surely you mean them don't you? I think we should refer to them as that as it's only a matter of time before the weasle faced turncoat renames them, may as well get used to it now eh! is a rich tax dodging tw*t worse than an incompetent not so rich one for a chairman?? Morally, probably, but that won't bring us success any time soon I guess.

We should call them Bristol sport 1982 Ltd that own half a stadium. No, the correct title is Bristol Sport (Mens football section).....and they don't own half a stadium. The Mens football section pay rent the same as the Mens rugby section.

They're always chearing on Barnet and whoever we're playing on there. Just because we are s*** doesn't mean they have to come more obsessed with us. If they was mid table or something then maybe I'd understand but when they're having their best season in years and all they can talk about is a ' meaningless non league club ' it's quite pathetic. You do get the odd ted reply on that thread and say its a bit cringey and obsessive now, but not many. bleep bleep blepp (edited by OxonGas)

Today of all days when you would think their only interest would be in celebrating a fantastic promotion, good old "Vonner" has posted a bitter comment on my blog because I didn't think to mention them in a post about Lee Brown. Baffled...

They're just laughing at us. If roles were reversed do you think we wouldn't be gloating and having a laugh at their expense if they were now Non-League? Cast yourself back to that rediculous Oh Yes thread on the old OF, that has come back to bite us in the ass big time. In the s***heads eyes we are just the gift that keeps on giving. We need to sort ourselves out and then hopefully in the not too distant future we can have a little brag back at them, here's hoping, eh? Yes we'd be laughing, but I doubt we'd make a 320 page obsession thread over them. I won't dig out the 'Oh Yes' thread from the old forum. Lets face it, we both laugh at each other when times are bad.

Some of them are obsessed with us. It's odd. They'll win the league but for some of their fans, the season won't be complete unless we fail to go up. It's quite pathetic. Places like the Evening Post website are a good example - any article about us has the same dozen or so barely-literate chaps spouting dull barbs like "Sags" or "Mind the gap" or "The family club" - the latter being hilarious as their hooligan element is far worse than ours. I don't have to like it, in fact I hate it,but we'll be in pole position to gloat when we're doing better than them. Neither club is run well - both are based on borrowing and debts, Lansdown has made mistakes but Higgs has made more. Can't blame their fans for the fact that financial doping is allowed. I'd imagine that every Gashead that ever existed has a friend or relative of the red persuasion, so the idea that they're all inbreds with no teeth is a bit silly. If they're inbred, so are half of us! What really makes me chuckle is when any of their lot try to claim we don't matter - as if Swindon or Cardiff is "the derby" now. Still sold out the B&Q stadium for our visit last year didn't they? No other game - not Yeovil, Chlentenham, Swindon, or anyone, holds the significance of the derby. I almost wouldn't care what Football League division it were in for regular derbies with them every year. I'll hazard a guess that there are some on here who would swap another season in the conference for City missing promotion. Our relationship with them is like fire feeding fire, if the roles were reversed we'd have hundreds of pages taking the piss and loving it...and that's how it should be. Their success, our NL status and the stadium debacle all at the same time just can't be ignored by our traditional rivals, and let's be honest if they were being nice to us we'd hate it and call it condesenction, but over the next 12 months it's quite possible all the dice will roll our way rather than theirs and we'll enjoy a carnival of piss taking at their expense.
