Also on Sunday May 3rd at 12.15 Bristol City are playing their final game of the season at Ashton Gate. The kick off time also set by TV. I am advised by a mate who Stewards our games that they have already been briefed that if we are in playoffs at home on May 3rd there will be 2 games in Bristol on the same day. Neither date or kick off for either match will be moved.

Two sold out games on the same day, there's a genuine celebration and an early kick off, ours a potential disaster with all day to get pissed afterwards.
What could possibly go wrong?

99.9 % sure one of the games would be moved, and probably us as league games would all need to kick off at the same time.

But the thing is, guys, the league isn't going to finish today and we will win the league so it won't be a problem!

If the police want a game moved, it'll be moved. Public safety will trump TV companies.
Though we'll be the ones to move as FL divisions must all kick off their last games simultaneously.

That's one game with a late kick off - as opposed to 2 games at once. If they turn around and say "we don't have the staff to keep two sold out games safe", things will chamge

Yet in amongst all this I read an article yesterday concerning the City v Swindon match last night and it was reported the Police did not consider it a High Risk game !!!!

Agreed Avon & Somerset police resources will be stretched that day 12,500 at the gate and possibly 11,500 at the Mem.

The two games aren't the problem. Its the 'scenes' afterwards that are the risk, unless they shut every pub in Bristol and construct Peace Walls in the centre. It's not like the run of the mill game earlier in the season when we played Bath, these games would be emotional as they're crowned champions and we do or don't qualify for Wembley. It could be carnage.
Better we win the division and save everyone the bother.

The point I am making is that it seems the police are not calling the shots when it comes to moving televised games. Too much dosh at stake I guess. I am not saying it is right but that seems to be the way it is.
The two games in Bristol will have a combined attendance of 24,000 5 miles apart. A lot easier to police than twice that many in one place, as in the examples, where every nutter that wants to fight their closest rivals is in situ ready to go.

To be honest, I don't see the point in the rivalry. It's like 'oh your team plays in the same city as mine, I hate you!' But when you watch England you're all best mates.

I'm not sure I agree. Everyone in one place is easier to control than two sets of fans in different places that might converge somewhere.
Its not 24,000 that are the problem. Its the few hundred in each set who are usually intent on trouble.

Why is there no dislike button. Out of interest Mr 123, how old were you in 2001 when we last played them in the league? 8 Thanks. I asked because I think up until then the derby was an integral part of the Rovers experience and identity. For a start it happened more or less most seasons. Since then its been few and far between and whilst its still important, its more of an event than a part of everyday life. Which I suppose is our fault for being s**t, rather than theirs.
