Im a Gashead that was born and raised in Horfield...right around the corner from the mem.I now live and work in Knowle ( Its a suprise but its not that bad, and theres more gasheads here then I thought there would be..lol)
Anyway, everywhere I look there is some kind of city Flag, shirt etc.The world cup was bad with all the st george flags out in streets of BS4 with BCFC on them.... I get the bus most days and have to go past the 3 lions on west street and that other pub by the crosshands not far from parsons street and they proudly display BCFC1982 flags etc...When at work I alway see people wearing 82ers shirts and its not just because that they are doing decent right now.
There city areas seem to display there loyalty to there club more than the Gas do with ours in our home territorys...I was in a kingswood pub for the derby last season in the JPT and in there it was full of Gas- 300+ yet apart from this pub I dont see us dispaying our pride like in south Bristol.City cant touch us with our loyal support, unique songs, kit, nicknames etc ... Would they get our support if they were in L2 for the best part of a decade,or with what happened last season and now this with being a confrence club... but for some reason they display there support with flags and shirts more than we do in there areas of the city. Can this change? I would love to see a BRFC flag displayed outside the queen vic or other gas pubs on our side of town like you see in BS3 24/7..

I think what he's saying ice is that flying flags outside pubs and in your front garden etc, is normally the behaviour of people in the worst parts of town, in our instance south Bristol.
It might look acceptable on flats and pubs in Knowle West or Hartcliffe, but would it suit pubs and houses in north Bristol? No, definitely not.
We've got more class.

city (as the original club and as 1982) have played in Ashton a long time,Rovers have been at the memorial less than 20,thats the reason why the miners etc are city strongholds. Also Rovers play in north Bristol and a large part of the support comes from east Bristol and areas well away from the ground,so the Vic etc are matchday pubs rather than locals. For those who call Ashton a 's**thole' check the house prices out and I expect you will be surprised,if I ever move from W-o-T,I wont ever move to east Bristol but I would consider Ashton.

Last game v Torquay when was a party as we both stayed up (how ironic) Gas fans invaded the Town. In one particular pub, where the landlord was Gashead, the flags came out and one said Victoria.
With reference to Gloucester Rd.
I think the drinking culture has changed over last few years, maybe not the big groups of youths cutting their teeth in local establishments.

I'll add another out of town to Torquay:
The Royal Oak in Corsham ... shirts on the walls and signed footballs and stuff on display.

The Vic is my local as well as match day pub ... Amongst the locals there are a few reds whilst the landlady is a ted but love gasheads .. Don't think she'd be adverse to gas flags inside ,there ate pics of eastville dotted around the pub .

It might look acceptable on flats and pubs in Knowle West or Hartcliffe, but would it suit pubs and houses in north Bristol? No, definitely not. We've got more class. The Labour MP sacked by Ed Miliband for sneering at a family home draped with England flags today escaped a showdown meeting with the owner who attacked her as a 'snob'.
Shadow Attorney General Emily Thornberry sparked a storm when she told MailOnline she had 'never seen anything like it' after tweeting a picture of the terrace home in Rochester with three England flags and a white van parked in the drive.
Cage-fighting car dealer Dan Ware, who owns the home photographed by Ms Thornberry, turned up at the MP's home in north London today to demand an apology but she had already left for work in Parliament.

Fortunate to have spent many years in Gas pubs with no shortage of loyalty on display, then Tony Blair came along and we kissed goodbye to a meeting place where very little was taboo.
The Anchor in Filton was a fine example of walking into a North Bristol pub being left in no doubt it was Rovers, times change and it's an element of life sorely missed for many of us of a certain age range.
Pubs now in the main in my view are mostly sterile eateries with fluid custom, ok for a bite to eat catching up with family but unrecognisable from 20 years back.

The pubs in bs3 the OP is talking about are drinking pubs, same as 20 years ago apart from no smoking....

We wouldn't let you in Hanham anyway Trymer = west bury on trim surrounded by southmead ,brentry and Lawrence Weston but you won't move to East bristol Dave, interesting that you mention Southmead,LW and Brentry on this thread about pubs,we were talking about this yesterday Lawrence Weston has lost at least 5 pubs ( I don't think that there is a pub there now just a social club),Southmead has lost 2 out of 5, and the only pub in Brentry is gone....Westbury has lost 1 pub but loads of coffee,cafe/bars have opened there and in Henleaze,I think times have changed and people these days want something different. BTW,why aren't you on the facebook site Tote end old boys ?,be more constructive for you than looking on google maps and ridiculing my posts on here !

Pubs 'in the main' Pepsi is what I was referring to, yes there are a few on the dark side and where I live we are lucky to have two drinking pubs, to be fair though they are few and far between now, in North Bristol a large amount have been demolished and replaced with flats, restaurants or Tesco express.

Ah the death of the pub caused by people buying their booze from the likes of Sainsburys (or bargain booze) as cheaply as possible and drinking at home alone. I bet the country drinks as much as it ever has and certainly in the areas you mention. In the end if you don't use it you lose it. Such a shame because pubs are very important to having a healthy social scene and building friendships between people who live in the same area.
