Trymer = west bury on trim surrounded by southmead ,brentry and Lawrence Weston but you won't move to East bristol Dave, interesting that you mention Southmead,LW and Brentry on this thread about pubs,we were talking about this yesterday Lawrence Weston has lost at least 5 pubs ( I don't think that there is a pub there now just a social club),Southmead has lost 2 out of 5, and the only pub in Brentry is gone....Westbury has lost 1 pub but loads of coffee,cafe/bars have opened there and in Henleaze,I think times have changed and people these days want something different. BTW,why aren't you on the facebook site Tote end old boys ?,be more constructive for you than looking on google maps and ridiculing my posts on here ! I lived in LW years ago, and it is crazy how many pubs have gone. I used to drink in the Rose, Long Cross and Penpole, and my wife used to live behind the Masons. Someone did tell me the Goram is still open?

Ah the death of the pub caused by people buying their booze from the likes of Sainsburys (or bargain booze) as cheaply as possible and drinking at home alone. I bet the country drinks as much as it ever has and certainly in the areas you mention. In the end if you don't use it you lose it. Such a shame because pubs are very important to having a healthy social scene and building friendships between people who live in the same area. I think there are a lot more factors than that. Greedy breweries for one.

Someone did tell me the Goram is still open? I was told yesterday that the Goram was closed, thats why we were talking about pubs shutting down, another one not far from LW that's gone is the Progress. Yes I agree about people drinking at home, just go for a run on the morning of recycling day to see how much of that goes on,shocking the amount of OAPs who have alcohol problems and drink at home.

I grew up in LW and was talking with me dad about the disappearance of pretty much all the pubs there in recent years. The Long Cross has been demolished, the English Rose has gone. So have the Penpole Inn, Giant Goram and Mason's Arms. Bit of a shocker. It's not the same place I grew up in on the rare occasions I go through. Since then I've lived in Henbury, St Pauls, Redland, Easton and Eastville. Only one of those I didn't like was Redland tbh (not sure how I ended up there either!). All the others are populated by decent, down to earth folk, same as the place I lived from 3-18 (El Dub). Where I live now has some decent boozers anyway - Queens Head, Sugar Loaf, Chelsea and the Plough are all great
