Blimey !! I remember watching a succession of goalkeepers get so caked in mud that I honestly felt sorry for them. Yes mate, it did seem better and I believe it was better even now. One word, WINGERS !! Maybe Rovers should insist on playing on the Halifax mudbath and stick Dawson and Balanta on the wings ?..trouble is back in the day we had centre forwards who could jump and head the ball powerfully and accurately..not any more, surely finding an old fashioned centre forward should be quite simple ?. You would think so eh. They seem to cost a lot more money nowadays.

Any of the type we're thinking of are probably mostly in their 60 or 70's so hardly likely to even be able to jump these days

Possibly Rochdale but that's about the same distance as Burnley and both about an hour away , Huddersfield as long as they're away would be the best bet as it 15 minutes away I've definitely drove Halifax to Rochdale in about half a hour. M62, off at the Milnrow junction and job's a good un. Went out with a Milnrow girl for a year hence the reason I know. EDIT: The Shay to Spotland in 30 minutes Taa-daa. Huddersfield probably won't be too keen either. foot down then , it says 56minutes Google map route

There's quite a number of football grounds in the Halifax area, should their pitch be unplayable, but the stand-out choice for me would be Gigg Lane. The fact that I've never been there has nothing to do with my suggestion by the way. But seriously, why is their ground possibly unplayable, does anyone know for certain? It surely can't be just the elements, can it? they share with rugby and rugby never gets called off. handy eh? so they could be left with a situation where the football team postpone this Saturday's home game, or try to hold it elsewhere, but the egg chasers then play on it on Sunday, and ruin it for the next week. LOTS of bad feeling towards the rugby club, who the shaymen also accuse of not paying their rent on time, etc.

Lol Halifax is nowhere near Burnley , Burnley is in Lancashire and Halifax is in Yorkshire for a start they've got to be an hour apart I would've thought , Huddersfield is the neighbouring town and a lot closer.I went to Huddersfield once on the Supporters Club coaches (in the Gerry Francis era), and we passed close-by to Halifax en route . . . but it didn't seem that close to Huddersfield to me. Very impressive countryside though. it's a lot closer these days. Landslides.

Bradford is closest, then Leeds, but there are some other non league grounds near, such as Droylsden or Bradford Park Avenue. Cant think they would go to Bury or Oldham, they are both in Lancashire !! They slightly bizarrely played a FA Trophy match at Droylsden. Not a bad ground but small. Great name - 'The Butcher's Arms' (pub next door) and brilliant nickname (the Bloods!). I used to live in Ashton-Under-Lyne and Curzon ashton's ground is ok (new and of conf prem standard). Also Hyde very close (they were in Conf last season; disaster!). Stalybridge Celtic is probably best ground of the lot. what about Farsley Celtic? Anyway, most obvious on 14th would be a similar sized Lge ground, not being used and easy to get to, such as Bury, Dale or Acc Stanley. Bradford and Barnsley not being used, but too big / expensive I would guess. Despite their games in hand I'm not that worried about Halifax as I think this pitch issue will sadly mess up any ambitions they have a of a very high finish. They could be left with a LOT of games in a very short space of time. I do however selfishly hope we play them at a good time for us, and on a good pitch, wherever that is!

I went int IKEA once they have cleared all the mud away ! I worked on the pitch at Eastville for a fortnight in the mid 70s,we had to put planks into the penalty area to fork them, lots of pitches were muddy then funny how the football seemed better though. Blimey !! I remember watching a succession of goalkeepers get so caked in mud that I honestly felt sorry for them. Yes mate, it did seem better and I believe it was better even now. One word, WINGERS !! No coincidence that wingers were more important on muddy pitches

To be honest I don't remember which way we went at all, but I do remember some very impressive views over a reservoir. It reminded me a bit of a scene from The Dambusters.

Many thanks for that. Things are starting to fall into place, now that I've got my bearings.

So why don't we play the game at our place? It would be cheaper than hiring a ground up there, and we could give them half the gate receipts as they would be the "home" team

Not that any of this matters really anyway.

I've just checked on google maps & it appears New Brunswick is closest for Halifax.
But in all seriousness if this is moved & not to a reasonable sized league doesn't that increase the likelihood of it being made all ticket? Can't a Droylsdon,or whoever, needing to take a chance on Woking happening again.
