January 1996. City 0-2 Beadle. 19 years later I still get goosebumps remembering that night.

Mine was an FA Cup 2nd replay vs Forest at Villa Park (neutral venue) in mid 70's. A few hundred Rovers and a few thousand Forest all on the Holte End. Interesting experience. We got beat 6 v 0 after two draws. Getting back to the coaches was character forming!

22nd Oct 1977, not saying any more, twas not a good day. if that was the spurs game, then id gone to ashton watching arsenal beat the hillbilllys, as we left the ground a bloke next to me say to his mate " how did the yids get on" to which his mate says " fooking won nine nil", it was only as i walked back along coronation rd that the penny dropped, my joy at seeing city beaten at home quickly replaced with the nightmare of rovers letting in 9 goals could be on match of the day, and sure enough it was, not easy for me to take at 16, thankfully we had no spurs fans at school and the teds didnt have much to shout about, as i remember some ugly londoners wurzel bashing in the park after game, happy days

Southampton FA cup 4th Round 24.01.1981. Lost 3-1. Remember being packed in at the Dell like sardines. Now I know I'm getting on a bit but I thought Peter Shilton was playing for the Saints along with Kevin Keegan but Wiki states Shilton didn't move there until 82. So if it wasn't him in goal can any statto's out there confirm who was in goal for the Saints that day. There were 4000 gas there, but like me who went by train you seem to be one of the 1000 crushed in the cage in the corner. Looking back that was an awful situation, I was lifted off my feet by the crush several times in the crowd that day. we were laughing about it at the time, I don't think anyone back then really thought you could die at a football match.

1963 Ashton. I was 14, me and mate didn't have a clue how to get there, so we decided to take the Wessex coach football special from Moravian Rd Kingswood. It was full of S---heads, not that they were known has that then. A large crowd meant we got there late, driver just dropped us off and said he would park in the usual place, lost 4-1, looked for the coach but they left without us. Got home close to midnight with a right rolliking. Have disliked them ever since.

Something someone said in the Nuneaton away thread inspired this one, so what was your first ever away game?! Mine was 2001, away to Cheltenham on a depressing November Tues night game! I went with a mate of mine, stood in the freezing cold, tons of Gasheads present, Rovers were abysmal and the game never got going in a shocking 0-0 draw. Only highlight was Kevin Gall clipping the bar! Thankfully I've experienced some fairly decent away day trips since then, because this one really was the pits! Apart from Ashton gate my first away game was millwall away may 1975 last game of the season we sent them down after Jim Sadie saved a penalty with about 10 minutes think we draw 1-1 having since been to nearly every ground in England since several abroad and a veteran of many an old firm game I can honestly say it is the most afraid I have ever been at a football match anyone who was there that day knows what I mean went on a supporters club coach but had to walk back to Paddington as they destroyed our coach during thr game the walk ( run ) along the old Kent road was an experience I will take to my grave

When I started watching there were hardly any Away grounds that were nearby.
My first Away game was in 1972 against the Villa. I remember we lost 2-1 in front of a massive crowd and Andy Lochhead scored for them.

At that time I used to hitch to all games that I attended - both Home and Away.
However, I woke up feeling terrible and I clearly wasn't going very far that day. It wasn't a hangover, it was the worst flu ever. I spent the afternoon shivering, wrapped up in a blanket in front of Grandstand, surrounded by a load of (so called) friends. In those days, there was no such thing as Jeff and the boys, just a vidiprinter output at the bottom of the screen, which didn't update in a timely manner unless they had a reporter at the ground. Today, however, we were to be on MOTD, so every goal update was faithfully recorded. We all know the stick that Jeff gets from 4 people when Hartlepool let in one goal. Imagine that from +/- 15 people 9 times over.
You're right - twas not a good day - and I didn't even go so I couldn't find consolation with fellow gasheads. But I got to know who my friends were!

The only segregation in the Holte End was a scaffold pole down the middle. No segregation if you went out back for a pie or a p1$$. Character forming indeed!

1972 league cup replay at Old Trafford, bunked off afternoon school with another lad, watched Gas win 2-1, got home very late got severe roasting off the parents and grounded for a month, next day in school got another roasting from the head of year and a weeks detention. Was worth it though.

This was my first away game.
Queensland v Bristol Rovers (England)
Written and researched by Greg Stock.
This match was played between the Queensland representative side and the visiting Bristol Rovers club side from England. Played: Thursday May 9, 1974
Venue: Exhibition Ground, Brisbane, Australia
Queensland 1 v Bristol Rovers 2 Queensland Kevin Jones (Ross Kelly), Gary Wilkins (c), Colin Knott, Tony Edwards, Phil Sunderland, Horst Schneider, Ian Fagan, Alan Marley, Charlie Dench, Wim Spiekerman, Jim McCabe; Subs: Ian Steel, Mick Strawson; Coach: Fred Robins. Goal: Spiekerman 68'
Bristol Rovers (England) (Lineup Incomplete) Jim Eadie, Bruce Bannister, Dave Staniforth, Stewart Taylor; Coach: Don Megson. Goals: Taylor 81' Staniforth 90' I was coached by Fred Robins at one stage in my career and Ian Steel was my coach at the time the game was played.
I do have the full Bristol Rovers line up somewhere on this computer and if I can ever find it I will update the list above.

Fulham 0 Rovers 1, 19th February 1994. John Taylor scored. Went on the coaches, we must have taken 2000 there that day.
