Quite clear DC needs help with recruitment Hasn't this been our problem since about 2009? I think if anyone could of predicted in the summer we'd be 3rd at Christmas they would of been laughed at. This clubs hit Rock bottom and today apart, I think DC's been a credit to bristol rovers so far for grabbing us by the scruff and putting some pride at least partly back.

Didn't notice you had posted this after a league game?

Clarke out!
Whoever is responsible for the scouting set up at BRFC needs kicking into touch, oops sorry it's Higgsy and co, they're doing a grand job.

I have been posting this for a long time many years even. If you have an inexperienced manager and no experience supporting him then the least you can do is give him a scout. The so called review looked at scouting and said sod it let the manager do it all. Its not DCs fault we have no scout.

it is not difficult to find better players but if the finance director says NO we cannot afford him what can we do? If there is money available in January then I am sure DC will coome good.

We've signed enough players lately, not you can blame the FD as we're probably still spending well beyond our means.
Whether having a scout means that we sign more LDV's than Martin's is anybodies guess.

We were at our best when we had Richard Everson spotting talent as scout an Penrice following up his tips. We now are reliant on a young inexperienced manager

If Mildenhall/Purdey & LDV had stayed fit nobody would be questioning player recruitment? One defeat in a mock mouse cup is all we've suffered not a 6 games losing streak

Quite clear DC needs help with recruitment John Ward had a Scout last season in Stuart Gray & our recruitment was a joke. I think the fact we are 3rd in the league suggests recruitment is fine, maybe it's time to tone down the over bearing pressure from the terraces and see if that works.

In my opinion, Molesworth was not in the same league as Everson.

and the source for that info is? Just wait for our next annual results announcement covering this season! Our means are well above the majority of others in our division and should be sufficient, however the question is - are we spending those means on the correct outgoings? and are we getting value for money?

If we finish 3rd or better and get to at least the Play Off final you could argue the club are, if they finish 6th or lower it seems they might not be?
Although Liverpool's demise this season shows expenditure doesn't = success in equal terms!!

If Rovers were seriously looking for a scout, and also a person to help a young and relatively inexperienced manager, and someone who knew all of the in's and out's of working for a club like BRFC, then they should check-out the availability of a former player who has worked in various coaching and scouting capacities (since leaving us) at Gillingham, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle, and at the moment appears to be unemployed. I have read that his knowledge of players from all divisions is encyclopedic.
Of course I'm referring to Lindsay Parsons, who together with Tony Pulis enjoyed a very successful career in the higher reaches of the Football League and the Premier League. As I said in my opening paragraph, Lindsay was not only a coach, but later moved on to become a first-class scout. His knowledge and contacts must be phenomenal, but perhaps more importantly he is a football person who is also one of us. I believe that he still lives in the Bristol area as I see him quite often in the Fishponds area. I've often wondered why he appears to be ignored, but then again perhaps he's just not interested.
He's a good man is Lindsay, still as hard as nails by the look of him.

Good old Mr Consistent! Scored the best own goal I have seen when we lost 2-1 at home to Villa. Diving header top far corner of the net. Brilliant!

Torquays Luke Young, midfield 8 goals 12 assists. Barnets Lee Cook, winger 8 goals unknown assists. Gatesheads Alex Rodman, winger 7 goals 5 assists. All brought in this summer for free! Probably dozens of others out there who could produce a great goal/assist return but never get on our radar and that will continue to be the case with the set up we have now. With our financial clout being reduced again next season if we stay in this league then getting at least some kind of improved scouting in place will be vital and it surely won't cost the earth to do that would it? It's got to be a false economy in my view and the o.p. Is spot on.
