We were at our best when we had Richard Everson spotting talent as scout an Penrice following up his tips. We now are reliant on a young inexperienced manager One who ignores offers of help and suggestions of players that have been scouted who would do a better job for Rovers than the current incumbents

If Rovers were seriously looking for a scout, and also a person to help a young and relatively inexperienced manager, and someone who knew all of the in's and out's of working for a club like BRFC, then they should check-out the availability of a former player who has worked in various coaching and scouting capacities (since leaving us) at Gillingham, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Stoke City and Plymouth Argyle, and at the moment appears to be unemployed. I have read that his knowledge of players from all divisions is encyclopedic. Of course I'm referring to Lindsay Parsons, who together with Tony Pulis enjoyed a very successful career in the higher reaches of the Football League and the Premier League. As I said in my opening paragraph, Lindsay was not only a coach, but later moved on to become a first-class scout. His knowledge and contacts must be phenomenal, but perhaps more importantly he is a football person who is also one of us. I believe that he still lives in the Bristol area as I see him quite often in the Fishponds area. I've often wondered why he appears to be ignored, but then again perhaps he's just not interested. He's a good man is Lindsay, still as hard as nails by the look of him. La must have at least been in his are 20's during our promotion season so that makes him in his late 60's, that hardly seems like building for the future? As far as the "free" transfers when was any recent transfer a free? Regardless scoring goals isn't the only thing a CM needs to do if it was JJOT would have kept us up last season.

You're quite right Topper, Lindsay Parsons is 68 years of age, but I really don't see the relevance of his age in this. After all he was scouting for a Premier League team only a couple of years ago, and I don't suppose for one moment that he has completely seized up since then. Besides which aren't Scouts invariably older? There must be a reason for that, it's probably to do with spending a lifetime in the game, and the knowledge and experience that you acquire along the way. But we were talking about the appointment of a Club Scout, and someone who could assist our young and relatively inexperienced manager in his efforts to get us out of the Conference at the first attempt. In this he is surely more than capable surely? I'm quite certain that he would be physically capable of struggling on for another few months, and then . . . who knows. I would have thought that his contacts alone would have been invaluable to the manager, who sadly seems to have few contacts within the Football League of his own. This is borne out in the standard of loanees that we are currently attracting (LDV excepted by the way), and have been attracting for several seasons now. In my original post I said that ''I have read that his knowledge of players from all divisions is encyclopedic,'' and that fact alone would have me reaching for the telephone if I were the Chairman. Someone with a sound knowledge of players (not only from the top divisions), and of the game itself would be invaluable to us, if he would entertain the thought of course.

If we finish 3rd or better and get to at least the Play Off final you could argue the club are, if they finish 6th or lower it seems they might not be? Although Liverpool's demise this season shows expenditure doesn't = success in equal terms!! No, but it gives you a better chance of success. Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich...

Is it likely for one man to rebuild a squad with a reduced budget and reduced staff, to get everything right first time? What is the transfer success rate of the best managers in the world?
