I just love it when people come out with that pig ignorant bull. Those `hardworking` East Europeans` are over here for two reasons. Firstly they are kept to the lives of peasant's,mainly by their own communist governments hence a better quality of life here in good old `Foreign land` and secondly, and more importantly, they get 4/5 times the wage over here for doing the same job in their own countries. Give me 4/5times my wages in construction for doing the same job in Poland, Romania or wherever and I will be on my shanks like a flash. Talk about a myth, that one is up their with the best of them. Would those hardworking Europeans be over here otherwise?
You do realise neither of the countries you quoted are communist ruled, right ? You do realise that the bulk of longterm unemployed are the indigenous population, right ? Thought not He was referring to the fact that they WERE Communist ruled and the adverse effect that period would have had on their economies. Also, he was saying that the Eastern Europeans come here to work, something you surely agree with?

Thought not Such knowledge, I am in awe of such a person. But what that has to do with the `hard working` johnnie foreigner coming over here for 4/5 times there wage than what they would get in their own countries is beyond me. Yours is a totally different point altogether. As for the communist rule,I thought it didn't exist anymore in this day and age??? Im wrong again!!

My point being that the bulk of longterm unemployed, at least 1.5 million, would not even want to work. You quoted that these " Johnnie Foreigner" types ( jeez) come from communist riuled countries, if they were then they would find it near impossible to go anywhere let alone just uproot and go to where the money is best. I don't know if you've ever been to the United states ? If so then you would see that these "types" will work for nearly any wage, so long as it means they are working. They have a strong work ethic, regardless of pay and most will have 2 or even 3 jobs to pay what needs paying. The most recent research shows the Poles do not rely on benefits, unlike many indigenous people. The benefit that needs changing IMO is the ridiculous child benefit, this can be claimed for children not even in this country if you are in the EU countries. If you cast your mind back then you'll remember Thatcher and subsequent Conservatives telling us that a minimum wage would mean a loss of over a million jobs. That has just not happened. We are the 5th richest nation in the world, surely it befits such a country, to treat it's less well off with some dignity, wouldn't you agree or are you just happy to blame " Johnnie Foreigner" and continue in the propagation of the myth that all of our ills can be placed solely at their feet ? I despair at times, I really do.

I guess it's cinveniebt to forget how many are and have gone abroad for the chance of self betterment and a better lifestyle. That, my friend, is human nature. I lived and worked in Germany for 3 years, in the early 90's. Germany needed the skilled labour and we're paying us more than 3 times what we could expect here and a cost of living that we can only dream of. I would have stayed had my parents not needed me to care for them. Anyway, back to the point of the thread. Of course I agree that all businesses should pay the living wage. If you want just one example of how market forces can directly affect us then look no further than care homes. They pay £6. 46 per hour for care staff that have to deal with people in extreme distress and can be aggressive and yet, most care homes are privately owned by some very wealthy people. They could not get enough staff, across the board as most of us would not put up with that insulting wage and yet, the Poles and Filipinos do those jobs. There is so much wrong with the way the lower paid can expect to be treated. For those still on their high Horse I say this, there but for the grace of God go I. We never know when life will deal us an illness or job loss and then it's a game changing experience.

It's not about the poor having more money it's about interference with the market and directing value where the market says there is no more. The argument that this increased liquidity won't increase the rate of inflation has already been proven wrong by one of the proponents of it on this thread: The free availability of credit from mid/late 90s to mid-2000s meant greater liquidity throughout society. If that greater liquidity didn't drive up inflation we would have seen a fairly stable or low level of inflation over that period wouldn't we? Which is what 2008 and the last two years of the last Labour government was famous for; economic stability and low inflation ... wasn't it? I guess you believe in trickle down economics ? Well since trickle down economics isn't a real economic model but just a catchall political term, no I don't.

Ah a labour voter that doesn't want to go there, oh diddums what a surprise eh? If your not willing to consider all the issues that drive wages at both end of the scales it's because you can't cope with the answers, god help the country if people like you vote in another labour government. If that happens it will be time to consider emigrating & leave you with the millions choosing to live on welfare, a government that allows it & a never ending supply of cheap labour from abroad to keep the country afloat. Oh what a s*** future that is I detect an insular little Englander. Cue Rule Brittannia I'd get a new detector yours isn't working, but obviously not the only thing you've got wrong on this thread. However if I was a little Englander I'd find your post hypocritical given that you ram your polish roots down everyone's throat at every opportunity. Still every forum needs a hypocrite

Oh the irony. That made my day. My god but you are such an angry and twisted person. Please do put up any posts where I "ram your Polish roots" and I may try to engage in some debate but you really should control that anger mucker. It will end up making you very ill
