The obvious reason is finances. If we are earning enough, great but are we in a position to do it? I accept that it would only be a very small percentage of our outgoings and I am sure larger savings could be made elsewhere, but nevertheless if we are making a loss I don`t see how we can commit to it.
The theory is great, but in practice it`s down to money.

I may have missed it, but where does it say that we don't pay the Living Wage already? We surely don't want to start any more wild horses running, surely?

If we are paying the living wage we should be screaming from the rooftops about it.

If we are paying the living wage we should be screaming from the rooftops about it. Or at least make a small announcement in a match-day program.

I only know one thing about proponents of the Living Wage: they don't understand inflation.

And i only know one thing about the Living Wage - its the amount of money you need to earn to actually live, rather than just exist.
Whatever the cost, or rate of inflation, that is something i think everyone deserves.

I think the point being made was if everyone suddenly got paid the living wage, the living wage would um, not be the living wage anymore because of inflation caused by everyone getting said living wage.
Easy to say, not easy to practice in the real world
That does not mean i support paying people peanuts btw

Why compare us to a league outfit when we're non league?

Why compare us to a league outfit when we're non league? Or compare us to Arsenal who are loaded and pay players £100 000 plus a week... and who don't pay it. Respect to Luton for not thinking that way.

It would be a small fiscal sacrifice yet huge kudos to Rovers.

I certainly hope that Rovers 'do the right thing' & pay the minimum wage as they are legally required to do. Question belmontman what did your MP or perspective MP (depending who you intend to vote for next year) say when you asked them about the minimum & living wage?

Why compare us to a league outfit when we're non league? FC United of Manchester pay it. If someone two divisions below us can do it, so can we

I am not sure what the latest figures are but about a year ago there was something like 4.8m apparently earning below the living wage.
As I say, I don't support paying people peanuts and people should be fairly paid for their work
The point is, if you give nearly five million more people more money, more money usually equals more spending. More spending equals inflation, meaning the living wage would have to increase again
That's fairly simplistic obviously, but it's far easier to propose a living wage than to put it into practice effectively

It's a bit like the minimum wage but higher and voluntary, and varies depending on location. It's basically the average amount you might need to earn in a certain area to not be dependent on benefits.
