DC has connections to Hartlepool, he is also out of contract at the end of the season and presumably would quite like to force the board's hand from a position of strength.
Point is that I can't help thinking this kind of suits everyone's purposes here. Hartlepool get to talk about making connections with someone who is obviously well regarded there, DC keeps his name associated with Hartlepool which based on recent experience is a job that is likely to come up again in the near future plus he kind of forces the board's hand here. I think Rovers board are the only ones who lose in this situation - because it become much more difficult for them to stand pat.
So I see some football politics going on irrespective of whether Hartlepool are actually interested or not. I would have thought that if Hartlepool were to try and get Clarke (which seems fairly unlikely really) and we were to counter that by extending his contract then he would rather stay with us because our situation looks more stable than theres. But maybe not.

All rumour. its a lot like on here when we need a manager everyone who has any connection with the club or has gas central heating gets mentioned, likewise with the Hartlepool fans its a game fans play.As to whether Hartlepool is more attractive,of course they are they are a league club,Rovers are not,any manager with an iota of ambition wants to manage at the next level. As for the point about the board offering a new contract i think they are wise in sitting on their hands and seeing how the season pans out before making any decision on DC,s future.

It just seems like a dose of good old fashioned common sense to me.

He's taking Rovers back in the right direction...can't see him wanting two league relegations on his c.v either.

I agree on everything apart from that it's obvious choosing Hartlepool over us. I think it would depend on the situation and the offer and the financial security involved; not simply be a case of league team v not league team. They look to me as if they are deep in the cacky and are going to take some turning round. I wouldn't have thought any manager would want to go somewhere if there was a decent chance he could end up with back to back relegations out of the league on his CV (however harsh that might be in reality).

Very short sighted Mr Padstow. Hartlepool may well be a league club for the next 6 months but we may well pass them going up on their way down. Or we may well be playing them next season either way. But they look rooted to me. As for managers wanting to manage at the next level, of course they would but when you are Young and inexperienced you have time on your side to learn your trade. Just like Darrel Clarke. You refer to the bloke as he is an experienced manager who has done the rounds for years. He is young and learning, very inexperienced as we all know, except those like yourself with bitter and twisted undertones who would like to hang the bloke at every opportunity. And if Rovers do the idiotic thing and dismiss Darrel Clarke at the end of the season not only will it be their loss with regards as the continuation of the rebuilding of this shabbily run football club,it will be to the benefit of a football club who are not so short sighted as this lot.

I could be wrong, but always thought our managers were on 12 month rolling contracts. If DC wants to go back to Hartlepool then he will, personally I would have thought that would be a **** move for him, but money talks and they are in a higher league albeit they are at the bottom. If he does decide to leave there will be a whole stampede of candidates for the BRFC Managers position, I personally think Martin Allen would be a good replacement, although I can not belioeve DC would walk way, after all he has not delivered anything, yet ! utg

We really don't want to get into a bragging competition over age, do we geoffrey? But just in case we do Roy was married to Dale Rogers, who did appear in his shows . . . unless my memory is playing tricks again. And in all of this we still haven't mentioned his great rival Gene Autry, who was affectionately known as ''The Singing Cowboy.'' I'm quite certain that you'll remember him as well.
