Just to repeat myself, it is not what you or I think, it's what the Directors think.
Can anyone quote a ringing endorsement from any Director about DC's ability as a manager.
Straight answer to a straight question time then. The only ''endorsement'' that I can ever remember from anyone in a position of authority at BRFC regarding the present manager occurred during the close-season, when the Chairman said in response to a question as to whether the manager would be retained (or allowed to leave like so many other senior players had done in the not-too-distant past) was given by the Chairman. He said (flatly) that the manager had a contract for a further 12-months. Sorry that you had to repeat yourself. I am fully aware that he has a contract until the end of this season, the question is "will it be renewed if we do not get promoted"

The shallow, short sightedness of the board of Bristol Rovers will see to that. If the Rovers don't get promotion that would be classed as failure to those and many others who still believe in the 5 minute fix. Which is a bit odd as it is this way of thinking which has got us to where we are now. There should have been a statement from the board saying Rovers will take years of fixing to put right the wrongs of many previous seasons and the PLAN is.........But no, in true Rovers style if we don't go straight back up a promising young manager who is wet behind the ears and learning his trade pretty good IMO, will no doubt pay the price. I hope I`m wrong but much doubt it.

But I wouldn't know the answer to that one I'm afraid.

If the roles were reversed I can't imagine we would be too enamoured about taking on a guy who took down a team the previous season when we were rock bottom of the 92.

Not sure that's the case, imagine say Campbell or Elliot had gone to another club as manager and they were now sitting 2nd in the Conference, wouldn't we be considering him as our manager?
As far as DC not having his contract renewed if we don't go up, perhaps that depends on the circumstances, if we get to the Play Offs and put up a good fight perhaps everybody, inc NH, will feel he deserves another chance? Although fall away and finish outside the Play Offs and perhaps it would be better for all concerned to try a different approach.

Can someone humour WCG and say they'll be glad to see the back of DC? After all a couple of posters on here keep saying that some on here hate DC / want him to fail / believe he's the devil (of course they've never actually been able to name those people).

Doubt he's going anywhere until he's achieved something here to be honest. Being in the play-offs is the minimum he should be achieving this year at Rovers and we're only just on course for that as it stands.
Not slating him - in fact I'm right behind him - but prospective employers are not likely to be impressed unless we get promotion I wouldn't think.
Added to which I'd like to think he's keen to get us back in the league since he was at the helm when we came down. It may not have been entirely his fault of course but irrespective it's on his CV like it or not.

He has links as a player,, that could be the only draw. We have to be a better long term prospect for any ambitions he have.....like some here he has been a breath of fresh air and he isn't fully appreciated for the hospital pass he was given and how he has pulled us out of the football playing gutter

As I said on this forum recently, I understand DC turned down Hartlepool before Paul Murray was appointed. So maybe a change of heart. Can't be helped by the negative vibes he gets from some fans who must be hoping for a return from either Graydon,Atkins,McGee,Buckle, Penney etc. To be fair to ourselves, and on the managers own admission, ''some fans'' are only five or six in reality. In a total of over 5,000 each home game, 5 or 6 cannot rate very highly on the negative vibes chart. Seems like more on the forums though. I think he's doing well but yes would prefer we were scoring more to turn draws into wins. I do fear what it would be like on here if we don't make the play offs - DC knows this club now and will always have his distractors for taking us down so maybe could jump if another offer came up for an easy ride as we all know this club has been a mangers graveyard of recent times. He does seem to have a good reputation in the profession though and so directors are always going to be looking for fresh new ideas to bring to their club. I think we should be ensuring he has a contract in place for next season to carry on what he has started asap. After all I'm sure nobody wants us to have to start all over again with the manager / player merry go round.

The bloke is doing a decent job. Short of storming the division what more can he currently do?
Clarke has admitted some mistakes along the way and seems to be growing as a young manager.
I don’t agree with all that he has said and done, but who would. Maybe he has talked to highly of poor teams at times, but then at least he hasn’t shown the arrogance that will just fire up the opposition
The bloke doesn’t have a deal for next season (yet) and whilst not saying he should be offered one now, that call is probably going to have to be made at some point after Christmas. I am sure DC will want to start thinking he has some backing if he is at the top end of the table
Sure things could be better, but they could be a lot worse. We are heading in the right direction on the pitch and it might just be about time to keep some continuity even if we don’t manage to go up this year

Would you let him go if Martin Allen replaced him?

Would you let him go if Martin Allen replaced him? No. We finally have a bright young manager who will take us far if given the time.

Would you let him go if Martin Allen replaced him? No no no no no. Allen is just another name like Graydon, Buckle, McGhee. After all our disasters why do people still think 'names' can come in and save the club? Give DC a new contract asap.

I'd say bunging people new contracts on the back of short term mini-successes has been as much a cause of our disasters as relying on "names".

Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke says he is “flattered” to be linked with the vacant managerial position at Hartlepool United, but says he is determined to finish the job he has started at the Memorial Stadium.
Clarke is one of a number of mangers under consideration to fill the position vacated at Victoria Park following the dismissal of Paul Murray last week.
But when asked for his thoughts on the possibility of returning to a club he once spent six successful seasons as a player, he replied: “I had a great time there as a player and I still know a lot of people at that football club.
“It is always flattering to be linked with any job, but I am very, very happy at Bristol Rovers and I have unfinished business to attend to here so I’d like to nip that one in the bud straight away.
“The club hit rock bottom at the back end of last season and I want to turn that around and make it right. I’ve put together what I feel is a good squad and I am really enjoying my job at the moment.
“Results have been a little frustrating of late with too many draws away from home, but our form has been pretty solid.
“If we can just narrow down that final five or 10 percent at the top end then I believe we will have a great chance of getting promotion back to the Football League at the first time of asking.”
