I was tempted to say this was Day 1 in the search and do a weekly update on progress but in reality its been nearly two years from memory.
That said I Felt for DC now tonight after listening to him on Radio Bristol City tonight ...
I'm hoping that the three striker knockbacks are initial enquiries at the moment and he can return for two of them with better money. think we have named the candidates in threads this week ... Hughes can be discounted now I hope.
Still think it could be Matt Tubbs that comes in as I don't see Wimbledon can afford him longer term and his relationship with DC could bode well ... or he may just take a punt on a Youngster from a higher division on loan as he eluded to that fact tonight that players were being offered to him. Maybe Aldershot might need the money as well at some point.
WE all know we need one at least ...looks like the Board will stump up some cash so lets try and stay positive ... call out a few names on this thread and see where it goes!!
Anyone have any serious thoughts on it ?

"let's try & stay positive" FFS we're 5th in the league not the bottom 2 like last season. It's irritating we can't get a striker but at least we're still grinding out wins

One goal is all that was needed.

Nobody reached double figures in the conference North or South to date so nothing that jumps out there.Harry Beautyman 22 years old and 10 goals in a struggling Welling team would be my suggestion.Know sod all else about him though.

We were top a few weeks ago. When was the last time we gad such a rich vein of form? Come on, keep up the good support...

Try Bennett and Patterson of Gosport Borough 23 goals between them this season.DC has been made aware of them but the response from MS is that our strikers are plaing well and we dont need any one else

Whistling in the dark?

I think Bennett is probably too old at 32 to make the step up to a level he's never played at before, but he has scored twice today against Colchester so he's clearly in the form of his life!
Paterson has found his level, I suspect.

They are both playing 1 level below Rovers, are you saying that Lambert wasnt good enough for Southampton when we were 2 divisions below them, its a simple comparison.Bennett has scored over 200 goals in the last 10 seasons at that level so would be worth a punt and Patterson is only 23 and came from Kilmarnock ,i believe,so is capable of moving up a division.Anyway with our misfiring strikers ,Taylor 4 in 20 Cunnington 3 in 14,they dont have to be that special to outscore both of those 2.But it is typical of Rovers,a few years ago both Wes and myself recommended a young striker from Poole Town to Rovers only to be told we didnt know what we were talking about and would never make the grade. Now what was his name? Ah thats it Charlie Austin, now where is he plying his rade?

Rickie Lambert wasn't 32 or coming from semi-professional football, Padstow. We were in the same division when they bought him. It's a weak comparison.
Paterson is 25 and has never played for Kilmarnock. He was released by Aldershot last season. He's never scored many goals anywhere until now.He might be worth a look, or it might be a case of picking a different random name from the top scorers chart.

I have actually watched both of them several times this season and are definitely more dangerous than Cunnington and Taylor. As for the Lambert thing are you being deliberately obtuse the comparison was that you commented on the 2 players at Gosport never having played above the level they are playing currently and Lambert had never played a league game above division 1 when he signed for Southampton who were in the Championship its a similar analogy. If you can score goals you can do it at most levels

They were in League 1, we were in League 1, he'd scored 29 goals in League 1 the season before. Still a weak comparison.

Everyone feels we need a goal scorer. Especially a proven one. I empathise and to some extent, agree.
But take stock a minute.
If we get one and he scores week in, week out, will we miss what we already have.....which is goalscoring across most of the team?
It's only a minor point along the lines of: mark Akinde out the game and Barnet are nuffin'..

I take your point but we need our strikers to add to our 'goal scoring across the team' or else we definitely won't get automatic promotion and may struggle to remain in a play off position

I hope whomever is added to squad compliments it, not dominates it...

We don't concede many either but it's no coincidence that if we go 0-1 down we invariably lose. It's nice we've got lots of players scoring, but we either need them all to do it more or to replace the forwards with ones who can.
