Today you would have thought we were the home side both from our attacking football and the noise made by the Gasheads even though there didn't seem to be that many. Tranmere showed why they are where they are in the League. Nervous with numerous missed passes. They will consider themselves very lucky today! We started well and it is one of the best passing games I have seen in a while. There were some great inter changes in the game and Sinclair especially must have a high pass % rate. Most of the players had a good game and Brunt seemed on good form. Taylor makes great runs and passes but never looked like scoring as did most of our "strikers". Looks like a midfielder playing upfront. Harrison made an initial impact but put one shot high in the stands when it looked easier to score. I have no idea who hand balled but it looked a bloody ludicrous thing to do when the ball was going nowhere. Gosling had some great wing play but looks very one footed playing on the wrong wing always having to cut back. The reason Cunnington came on was a bold move by Clarke to at least "go for it" and finish attacking which nearly paid off. I won't criticise the team as it was a great performance and very enjoyable to watch the game. I hope they can keep this form up but yes we DO need a striker/fox in the box/just someone to get on the end of the balls we get in the box..... Well played the Gas and well done the Gasheads for making so much noise Sorry but what's "bold" about bringing on an extra striker against 10 men when we're playing probably one of the worse teams in the FL anyway? Given only Harrison seems to have miss a chance it seems yet another game where we failed to create many chances, we really need a complete new front 4 not just 2 new strikers up top.

Just back from the game and I was very proud of the team's performance. We were by far the better team and should have won the tie.
We all know we lack composure and a finishing touch in the final third and it has cost us again today but our all-round display was very encouraging. We strung together some good passing moves, had blatant penalty appeals turned away and had several efforts cleared off the line that on another day would have gone in. It was an injustice to lose and the fact Tranmere fans celebrated like they'd won the league after beating us 1-0 after just two or three forays into our box tells you all you need to know.
McChrystal had defended pretty well in the game as part of the back four... until his moment of absolute idiocy/lunacy/stupidity (all three apply). I couldn't believe what I had seen and I don't think the ref could either to be honest as he didn't give it straight away, but eventually he did point to the spot. They didn't deserve a chance to take the lead but Macca inexplicably gave them the chance to do so and it was a good pen to be fair. The kick out of their player was a huge overreaction to what was a slight shoulder barge and they could have no complaints about the decision. It actually didn't help us because they then put every player behind the ball to defend as opposed to having two or three up field like they did with eleven men.
Brunt did very well on his return to the side - he looks a different player to the one we saw before his loan at York. He held the ball up well, had some very nice touches, got a couple of shots away and didn't give their defenders a minute's peace all game. In that form he will stay in the team, unquestionably. Lyle Della-Verde also impressed in his substitute outing. He started off nervously, as you would expect, but he grew into the game and made a couple of good runs from the right flank and almost scored a welcome debut goal. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start at Alfreton on Tuesday night now. Sinclair was also good on his return and we controlled the midfield for the first time in a while, which is no coincidence. I like Ollie Clarke but we're a better side with Sinclair in the team ahead of him.
People who weren't at the game will moan about 'same old, same old' and I know exactly where they're coming from but I also saw a good performance today and a manager who is working damn hard to give us a team to be proud of. On to Alfreton...

You can't really comment accurately on players if you weren't at the game!! The team played very well and Brunt was very good. The only thing lacking (unfortunately) is goals and in McCrystal's case a brain!!

Both reports on the game are encouraging particularly the performance of Ryan Brunt, sending him out on loan was a great decision by the sound of it.

Brunt had a decent game especially in the first half and although he is never going to be a prolific scorer he runs the channels, holds the ball up well and brings others into the game.
I think Martin confirmed today that he does not have a future with us and hopefully Balanta will step up to the mark.
Della Verde was excellent for the time he was on the pitch and if he continues like this he will be a great loan signing, hopefully for longer than a month.
I think we missed Clarke today and on Tuesday I would have him and Mansell in the centre with Sinclair and Verde out wide.
The ovation for the team and DC at the end showed what the fans there thought of the performance.

we need the money. a replay would have made some cash (haven't had a home game for 21 days!), and if we won that we could have had a decent pay-day in 2nd round. we 'only' have 3 midweek games before new year, and 1st FA Tropht match has a saturday set aside, so we could have handled another game or to I think. We need to get out of this League more than we need the money. and they aren't related???

So where are all these quality 20+ goal-a-season strikers hiding? Lots of people think they are sat at home waiting for a call up from us and every other football club in the country. It's a big deal to move to another club at this level where big money isn't paid especially if you have a family to relocate ect. If you can score that kind of goal tally then your going to be playing in the FL! Wake up people...... Barnet? and welling?

Ones currently scored 6 in 6 for Dundee, a wee Scottish fella who used to play in midfield for us, as recently as 5 months ago! Ring any bells?

It was a cracker.

I can't understand how fans can imply everything is OK because we played well but were lacking in the final third , apart from the odd game when have we really played poorly in the last few seasons but since Lambert left we've constantly lacked in the final third.

We need to get out of this League more than we need the money. and they aren't related??? Depends how you spend it tbh. Not a direct link necessarily. Plenty of clubs have spent relatively large amounts of money going nowhere (including us under Holloway some years back) and some clubs have gone forwards on a relative shoestring budget (Yeovil did well with a small budget and good use of the loan market). Noises being made off stage seem to say we have some "playing budget" still to spend - how we spend it is the key. Or we could waste lots of money and end up in the same place.

I personally thought we were by far the better team and took the match to them.. . . but we still lost the game 1-0. 'Tis a great shame, that. But we will continue to lose close games (and don't they all seem to be), because we cannot seem to score enough goals to give ourselves breathing space. I really don't think that our position in the Conference is entirely relevant, nice though it is. The fact remains that we are massively underachieving. But the question of a lack of proven goalscorer is not a recent thing, it's not something that has suddenly appeared, I think that this is something of which we are are all aware, and have been for several seasons now. I still think that it was a shame that Jamie Cureton was considered to be ''too old.'' because even for one season he would have provided us with want we require. The question is when will the powers that be, do something about it? After all there is money within the budget we are told by the Chairman. So . . . ?

Oh well, at least we can concentrate on the league now.... ...as can Barnet, Grimsby, Halifax, Woking, Forest Green...
(I know it was probably black humour.)
