Matty Taylor in a wide position? Would he have more effect playing out wide?

It's time to drop him and give Harrison or White a go. I don't see anything in his game that would suggest he would be better out wide than any of the others.
He isn't useless and I think he's go a role to play in the squad, but main partner to Cunnington isn't it.

Time for Matt to warm the subs bench and be used as an impact player. Bring him on with 20 minutes to go. He has plenty of energy and pace against a tiring opposition. 1 goal from open play in 14 games (or is it all 16?) is all you need to know.

I'd like to say yes, but if you do that it sort of sends a bad message out to monkhouse,martin, leadbitter and brown who I feel should all be ahead of the others in the potential winger/wing-back stakes. I certainly know one thing, Leadbitter and Brown are both wasted as conventional full backs.

Purely and simply the bloke is not good enough. He doesnt deserve a place in the team. We cannot afford to carry a player on the off chance of being awarded a penalty. Thats what happened in Trickie Dickie Walkers last season here.

Maybe not to start every match, but I can see a formation there that would suit circumstances that need a different attacking dimension. And hope we are versatile enough to accommodate it without getting ridiculous (like converting Virgo to ad hock attack?!!) There is room for such a technical manoeuvre but we need suitable conditions for it to prove temporarily effective, in my opinion. That's what should be happening in training. I wouldn't employ it as a standard.. |

Whether anyone rates Taylor as a striker nobody can surely question his work rate...IMO that work rate would be best served in a wide position and strangely he may even get more goals playing in that position

He isn't quick, and can't beat a man, he's easily bullied off the ball and we've got lots of other options to play in midfield. If all he offers is work-rate I'd stick him on the bar in the Clubhouse.
I think he could be a good finisher and if we were creating lots of chances in the box he'd be useful. We're not, so he isn't.

Our main problems are caused by a pretty defensive formation that doesnt pressurize the opposition back four and to make matters worse our back four stay too deep as a unit. BUT we are unbeaten for a while now so why change something that is working even if it means short nails every week!!

Hope Leadbitter starts against FGR.Gosling available but Martin doesn't seem interested.Lockyer suspended so Mc Xtal back I expect.Assuming our new striker still won't be fit,Time for Ellis to start perhaps?

I think people like him because he puts the effort in which is what we all want to see. This however covers the fact for many people that unfortunatly he is unlikely to get many more than ten goals this season. At best he is an average conference forward. If we fail to make the play offs this year it will be soley down to lack of goals. Try to give Harrison a start now.

With FGR up next surely it makes sense to give him one last chance to get his season underway against his former club? Although options are limited should DC not want to start with Harrison upfront as White looks well off the pace.

I am going to be honest and say I still haven't seen one thing in Harrison to make him the saviour. Admittedly, I haven't seen away games and know he has had good games there but at home, he still flatters to deceive for me. Hopefully a starting berth will give him more motivation to stake his claim as our goalscorer.
I like Taylor and feel he does offer more than work rate. He has a good touch if played to feet and is always looking for the ball and making intelligent runs. I think the problem is he is meant to be our goalscorer and he wants to drop deep and get involved linking the play, which means he isn't where he should be when he needs to be. So with that in mind, I am not sure he is our goalscorer and perhaps he should be playing with someone who is, leaving Taylor to link play and chip in with goals here and there. If he could do both, he wouldn't be in the conference I feel.

Strange how people think. If you work hard but aren't scoring goals in a winning team you're to applauded, so we have Taylor. If you work hard but aren't scoring goals in a losing team you're denigrated, so you have a Beardsley.
Always the best time to strengthen / improve is when your winning not to wait until you start losing again.
But I've said it before nearly all managers stake so much on one player that they won't drop him regardless of how he is playing. For DC I think that player is Taylor as an example for Arsene Wenger I think that player is Ozil & Arsenal fans won't be unhappy at his recent injury.
