After 5 wins on the trot (2 of them away), 4th place in the league (3 points away from top dogs), and finally some consistency and spirit in our team, what do we think of Clarke now?
I for one have supported him through all of the last season's closing games and pre-season, then doubted him until a few wins back. The fickleness of my opinion has got me thinking if maybe DC isn't as bad as we have made him sound when we lost our first games, but then again he did make some bizarre tinkering around, etc. But now things changed.
So, now that we have a slightly better picture, can we form a coherent opinion on DC? Or is he being "John Ward 2012-13"? Or is it still too early to tell?

Have to say that I am a convert also. Didn't think he was the right man for the job, thought he said the right things to keep the supporters sweet but that we needed an older, grizzlier manager to get us out of the Vanarama.
However, much of what he has said has come to fruition, and if we can just get one of the strikers scoring regularly I think the rest of the team are good enough to achieve a top 5 finish.

We won 5 on the trot wearing the quarters and should only wear away kits when colours clash, not for sponsorships. Our away kits have been boring for too long, time to go back to quarters there too: black and green or black and gold.

Same as always here from day one, good tactician, positive attitude, knows the game inside out, worked players contracts and signing ethos smartly, ignored the growing amount of morons we now have at our club thinking 7/8 games is all you should get before getting the sack if you're not winning every game.
An excellent start under a board of directors that have no idea, very impressed and convinced he will manage in the league, hopefully with us and a professional set up off the pitch.

Well said - no one can deny he is proving the doubters wrong. Long may it continue. One thing is for certain - there can be no change now - we have suffered from changes for far too long

Sacking managers almost never works and I'm glad that for once Higgs didn't listen to the baying mob. Losing at places like Braintree and Altrincham is a disgrace for this club, but 2 or 3 results does not a manager make. I was concerned that he may not have been the right man then but nevertheless he needed half a season to prove himself.
We shouldn't be in this cesspit of a league and while Clarke has to take a portion of blame, he had Ward's players who couldn't be arsed to fight for the shirt and managed them for eight games.
He's replaced most of them with players who at least give the bare minimum of putting in the effort, and a few of them have that bit of quality that helps us win games.
If we narrowly missed out on bouncing straight back, he should be given next season to have another stab, because (a) the club needs some stability soewhere, and (b) he seems to know the league and knows what we need in players to succeed in it.

LOL this forum cracks me up. I've been called all sorts for standing up for DC. I've actually been called a troll, a happy clapper etc etc for standing up for him, now we've won 5 in a row & sit nicely in 4th it's all lovey dovey towards him... Shame all the haters couldn't have seen it it a while back, "like us who know what were talking about" did.

There are still plenty of people who have the sense to give a manager time. Let's try to keep the thread about DC and avoid your insecurities and 'it's all about me' point of view.

So, I can only post about my views, it's just a shame my views are just "all about me & not you eh?"

I admire Clarke for going about his business. The end result may not be pretty at times like yesterday. I like his honesty about yesterday's game that it was scrappy and we ground it out. I hope he keeps that honest approach. I also like the way he is not afraid to change the team to suit the opposition. The Bod need to let him have this season to see what he can achieve. The challenge will come if we have a couple of defeats. Let's hope it doesn't happen!!

After collecting one point from the first three games as in any other league some fans, although not all were questioning his ability to manage at this level. Since our improvement in form a number of posters have come back on the forum and have admitted he has proved them wrong, so good on them . However, just because you doubt someone's ability doesn't mean to say you hate them. So enough of the school boy squabbles please (with apologies to all school boys of course )

He is doing a better job than I expected to be honest.

I'm delighted to say that DC has done a good job so far. But remember that we are only 12 games into a very long and arduous season. If he continues to produce a team that is getting results on a regular basis, culminating in a top five finish, then he will have surpassed himself. But clearly that is some way off, and we have to live in the present, so my reply to the question is that he is doing an excellent job with the resources available to him. My main concern at the moment is the goal ratio, I still don't believe that we are scoring anywhere near enough goals. But as he's a canny lad, he is more than likely aware of that himself.

As I said earlier in the season we had to give him a chance as the time to replace him went last season when IMO Martin Allen or a similar Manager should have been brought in BEFORE the transfer deadline and we would have given ourselves the best chance to stay up. Having allowed him to make all his own signings it would have been stupid to replace him when cash is at its minimum and a new Manager would want their own players. So we are where we are and Clarke is doing a good job. We must now give him the whole season and see where we are at the end. Personally I hope that we will see a new striker to go with Cunnington, a creative central midfielder and a right winger and then I firmly believe that we should be targetting FIRST place. Its a long way to go but in my opinion Clarke has at this time made a success of the job but there is a long way to go. Bristol Rovers are watchable again unlike under Ward. Long may it continue and I very much hope that at the end of the season EVERY supporter will be saying that the Board finally by luck or judgement got an appointment right.

he came to the club by accident, his appointment got us relegated out of the league for the first time in 90 years, pre season was woeful, the start of the season was woeful.
Since then he has shown there is something about him, perhaps our luck and chemistry approach is going to pay off ?
A very very good run indeed, well done to fhe team and DC in particular.
