This one KP? Pigs on the Wing Parts 1 & 2. I must have heard Dark Side and Wish You Were Here a couple of hundred times each, easily. But for some reason - never got round to Animals. So thanks for the heads-up... I think animals was another of Roger Waters prescient light bulb moment albums. I know that it’s easy to say this with the benefit of hindsight but he summed up the greed and consumer led way in which most now live in and with. It’s like his own version of George Orwell’s 1984. As an ex salesman, it certainly hit the nail on the head, for me. They never toured that album & I wish they would have. I like the fact that both the intro and ending leave the listener with an hopeful message. I think it’s the most underrated album by them and you are not alone in having not heard it. Animals & the final cut are two very powerful albums. I know I’m showing my age but they are always my go to group & I still get a lot from listening to them. If you ever saw the Floyd live then it absolutely ruined you for other gigs. The effects and light show are spectacular. Nothing else I have seen and heard comes even close. I was hoping for lots better to come from Radiohead but it just didn’t happen but ok computer is a fantastic album. Thanks for finding something close to what I was looking for but that is not how it is on the album and whoever produced it has added the extra guitar. Happy Easter my friend Happy Easter Jools. If you want to dip back into Radiohead - then "Hail to the Thief" is probably your next best starting point (assuming you've listened to The Bends). If you don't have time for the whole album - then just listen to "There There" (insane video - worth watching for the video alone), "Where I End and you Begin", "Myxomatosis" and "A Wolf at the Door" . The latter video used to scare the sh*t out of my kids. To be fair it still scares the sh*t out of me too. Keep safe my friend.

The brilliant Christine and the Queens: Tilted. It's the official video - but she can sing and dance live to this and it's excellent. Enjoy.

Cripes, you must be getting on a bit when you look at a 4 year old post about a video and it reminds you that you saw the singer's Father when he was quite young!

Their producer worked with Roger Waters on his most recent album, is this the life you really want. It’s not in the amused to death area of greatness but it does grow on you

I was so impressed I bought the album Radio 6 alerted me. Watched her at her first Glastonbury (2016?) and was totally smitten. Her set at Glastonbury last year on the Sunday blew away the bigger stages. So confident, eloquent, witty and endearing. And (obviously) english isn't her first language.

And for today... the marvellous XTC. IMHO one of the most under-rated bands over the last 20-30 years. Danny Baker voted 'Oranges and Lemons' his favourite album of the 90's. Danny knows his stuff. This is the stand out track from the album. Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton:

Je reste ma valise. Andy Partridge is a legend (despite his swindle upbringing). Skylarking is my favourite XTC album. Genius.

I went to a shop in Tokyo with him, he was buying new leads to connect to his speakers, they had some ridiculous gold content, he spent something insane like £3000 on them. He said that if you heard music come from speakers your system set up is no good, the sound should be in mid air in front of you. If he says that XTC are good, who are we to argue?

I own their entire back catalogue.

I used to be very seriously into high end kit but the cables and cable risers plus much more was just snake oil and I truly spent a fortune on kit, over around 15 years. I then went to an HiFi show in our city and found AVI who made active speakers, this means that the amps, DAC, pre amp etc are all built into the speakers. No need for the silly interconnecting cables and I had kit by NAIM & Linn at the time. I sold my existing kit for 22k and spent 4 on the AVI. I have never looked back. Many of us so calked audiophiles were so easily parted with our money.

My speakers are Mission 707s in one room and AR something or other in another, switched from the amp. Old, basic, but if you could get the youngsters of today who have only ever listened to stuff on phones and ipads sat in front of it and play them something like Dark Side Of The Moon, their heads would probably explode

Decent speakers as are the missions. They now call that legacy kit but you can get some really good set ups if you know what you are looking for. Amps and pre amps, that cost a couple or more thousand, can now be bought for really very little money. The difference is in the detail you can get. For example, I can hear every spoken word that Roger Waters interviews people to get their answers. On my older kit I could hear the odd word but it was not clear. Once you have heard a decent set of active speakers then it can ruin you. I remember the them Mrs saying, I was upstairs but it sounded like you had a band playing live. That one made me smile. She hated it that I’d spend so much on my hobby. Being able to switch from 16 bit to 24 bit is incredible. What it allows you to do is to listen to the music just as it was recorded. In the past you’d have 20 bit recording playing through a system that could not support it. Bugger the snake oil cables, you can literally use lamp chord and, as long as its shielded, you don’t need anything else. Many of these legacy companies are now gone. It’s all gone digital & streaming is the in thing.

CDs are still black magic as far as I'm concerned.

CDs are still black magic as far as I'm concerned. You cannot get better than the CD as especially the SACD. The compression rate is much better than anything that is streamed. I’ve tried the high resolution streaming services but they just don’t do it. I guard my collection and would not be without it. I also fell for the cables but the salesmen would always turn the sound up a little, to take it sound like there was a difference. I dread to think of how much I wasted on that and then then connectors themselves & then cable risers, so that these wonder cables never touched the floor or got close to other cables. I went as far as having a dedicated electrical spur that was solely for my kit 😂. A fool & his money eh
