A 34th-minute goal by Andy Monkouse saw Bristol Rovers overcome 10-man Wrexham at the Memorial Stadium. The former Huddersfield winger headed-in Dave Martin's near-post corner after Wrexham had started well. But the game was over as a contest when Mark Carrington was shown a straight red for a challenge on Adam Cunnington after 63 minutes. Wrexham drop from seventh to 10th place in the Conference table, while Bristol stay in 15th spot.
The above report is from the BBC website, and contains two errors, plus a reference to Rovers as "Bristol".

What did he mean, did the interviewer question that comment?

What did he mean, did the interviewer question that comment? I thinks it pretty distressing and sad that a manager feels that he and his squad feel so ostracised by the fans, we really have hit a new all time low how desperate the majority are to get on his back and the players back, i find it makes our home form even more incredible.

What did he mean, did the interviewer question that comment? No, though in fairness it was part of a longer answer to the interviewer's original prompt. It wasn't quite clear to me whether the "going on outside" refers to criticism of the players during and after the game [e.g. at Braintree and at Altrincham], or more widely to the state of the club - or both. Either way, about 20% of DC's interview seemed to be about the need for mental toughness, how he prepares the team for it, how even the older pro's need to work hard at it. No doubt the full interview will be on the radio again tomorrow morning!

Good 3 points, thouvht we tried to play football most of the game. Not always confidently or well but kept trying until last ten or so minutes where we were panicking and were obviously scared of throwing the lead away to the point it was likely to happen.
Taylor was brilliant. Never stopped and my MOTM, we need to find the right partner for him.
Clarke was quiet on the bench all night but seemed agitated to me when he did creep out and was well narked when Parkes shouod have buried his header to put us 2 up. Was almost like Clarke has been told he only has a few games to get some wins

I think it's what we need! I think Dc is building a real siege mentality into the squad, tbh I think the fans generally at games are good, but teams are going to try and hurt us this year and we'll need to fight them mentally.

I thought it was ok tonight, once we got through the opening 25 mins, thought we looked pretty solid, and it could have been more comfortable.
Did ride our luck a little though, can sometime explain to me how the hell Mildy managed to keep the shot out in the first half when the guy was about a yard out? Unbelievable. Just shows what a difference a little bit of luck can make.

Good if not spectacular performance.
Wrexham totally different to Halifax, just as physical but they tried to pass the ball to feet occasionally, but they posed almost zero threat in front of goal. Would like to see the goal line scramble in the first half again, we all thought Mildenhall clawed the ball back from behind the line. Maybe our luck is changing at last?
All did well apart from Parkes who seems to think it's his job to pass to opposition players' feet. How he missed a header from 5 yards unchallenged I'll never know.
Couple of shameful bits of diving from Wrexham players, referee bought most of them.
3 much needed points. Put in that same performance every week and we will all be a lot happier.

Not there tonight and delighted with 3 points - but 6 shots with only 1 on target per BBC. Appreciate stats can mislead but that sounds like a fairly poor return for 90 minutes at home? Reviews seem to suggest a reasonable performance though?

Worth remembering that last season our home form was 3/4th best in L2. It was abysmal away form that got us relegated.
Good win tonight. Bloody tough division where you don't move up the table after a win in 15th place. Where would we be now if we'd lost?
A bit of deja vu from 2002/3/4 when we did better against the 'better' teams and struggled against the little guys who just scrapped for every ball.
It's awful that DC and the team feel the fans hold them to blame for where we are. One thing I really don't miss about the Mem' is the sort of muppets who call for NH to sack the manager/half the squad every time we lose. Like calling for the organ grinder to sack the monkey 'cos you don't like the music. As long as we have 5,000 fans like that Higgs is laughing.

Much better performance tonight which was needed after Braintree.... As others have said, we had a little bit of good fortune and we still had patches of iffy passing but it's still early in the season and still a relatively new team that are still finding their feet so is to be expected a little bit. But overall much improved and a much needed 3 points. I'm still confident we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season and personally I think DC is the right man to be in charge - not got any real logic to back it up comprehensively but my gut says if we stick with him we will get to be where we want to be, out of this league - whether it's this season or next I'm not sure but I think we won't be in the conference for long. I'm with the guys who say its ridiculous to be calling for heads after one defeat - different if we hit a run of a number of games without a win and we're dropping like flies but I think we need to stick with someone for a reasonable amount of time and back and support them and break the manager merry go round cycle we've had for the last few years. We deserved tonight's win and I'm pleased we got it - now we just have to get our away form going and get some wins away from home starting at a difficult place, Lincoln. Onwards and upwards and keep the faith guys on what may be sometimes a roller coaster season....

Very pleased with the 3 points tonight. Yet again we looked pretty decent at the Mem; it's just a shame we can't replicate it away!
It took a while for us to get going but as soon as we scored (a great delivery from Martin, whose set-pieces are 1,000,000% better than Lee Brown's) we were the better side. Admittedly Wrexham did inexplicably miss from close range - their lad has shot towards the middle of the goal from 4(?) yards and Mildenhall has pulled off a wonderful instinctive save to parry the ball before our defence finally managed to clear. Second half was near enough all Rovers for half hour, we had some good opportunities to make it 2-0 but couldn't quite find the back of the net. Martin hit the post with a rasping drive from a tight angle, Parkes headed over from 6 yards after a corner and Mansell glanced a couple of headers just wide. Their bloke's red card was justified as he went diving in with studs up but the ref didn't seem interested in giving the red until Gasheads went ballistic and called for punishment. Thankfully the ref eventually made the right call, although yet again the officiating in general was very poor in my opinion.
Unfortunately we got nervous as time wore on and in the final 10 minutes or so we decided to sit back and invite pressure. Despite struggling to clear our lines and a fair amount of possession for our red counterparts, they didn't create anything of note. It was a little nail-biting as we all know what Rovers are like... but the ref finally blew the whistle and we got our deserved home victory.
I thought it was a decent team performance with standout outings from Neal Trotman (who won everything), Dave Martin (who looked tricky down the left and put some great balls in the box), Stuart Sinclair (he rushed and harried the Wrexham midfield all game long, never lost possession and is twice the player Ollie Clarke is) and Matty Taylor (whose movement and intelligence in the final third is superb). I feel sorry for Taylor as he hasn't got his rewards in the way of goals just yet but his all-round play is very good and he puts the opposition defence under all sorts of pressure by chasing them down and making runs out wide. Our lack of goals is a slight worry because we can't rely on 1 goal being enough all the time but we are now creating the chances. I do fancy us to score three or more in a game soon - probably at home!
All in all I'm happy tonight and will go to Lincoln in good spirits. We will undoubtedly need to play better than we have on the road so far but we have absolutely nothing to fear about any side in this division. Wrexham were 100% on the road before playing us and yet we deservedly beat them and Halifax have only lost once all season and that was against us. They are promotion-chasing sides and we won - hopefully the lads take confidence from that.
Well done Gas.

Amazed that Cunnington hasn't got a mention from anyone yet (Apologies if he was and I've missed it) as I don't think he lost a header all night. The fact that we spend most of the game smashing clearances long, means that a player like him is crucial. I still think we need a midfielder making a late run, as Cunnington holds the ball up well, Taylor does well at dragging his man away from his space, but yet we no one who can burst through to take advantage of that space.

Another solid 3 pts tonight and another 100% record taken too.having seen all the home games plus the FGR game on the box I've seen nothing for us to fear and if we can start scoring more we could still have a run at the play offs at least.we look like a team that's difficult to play against and the longer we can keep up the good home form then teams will come to the mem and look for a draw which is to our advantage I believe. Were improving slowly and if only we could get that 2nd goal when on top (Telford,FGR and tonight )the last 10 minutes won't turn into a rearguard action and the confidence may really kick in for the players.Get something at Lincoln to keep the vultures away then 2 home games will give us an opportunity to really kick on.Really thought we'd be down to 4 - 4 1/2k attendance tonight with the Braintree game proving to be the tipping point for a lot of fans so well played the faithful 5k.

Reviews seem to suggest a reasonable performance though? Don't bother judging the game by these stats, it is really not a true reflection. Wrexham would have 2 shots on target from 2 very weak free kicks that dolled up into Mildenhall's hands. A battling performance from Rovers, and despite Wrexham keeping posession better than us, we looked the more threatening overall.

OK, so 2 poor away defeats have had their consequences but it is only 2 games out of 8. no-one is particularly worried at home matches. unbeaten. Ok, so the performances have hardly been scintillating but the results have been good, and any whinging is temporary and not 'organised'. I like DC but getting a bit fed up of all this stuff about the crowd being anxious, the team can feel it, etc. is there some spinning going on?
