Doing the rounds on Twitter. Well that should help the police and the club. Still not conclusive though! Where was much the punch being thrown?

It's always the bloody same. Every time some of our numerous arseholes act like the arseholes they are all we hear on this bloody forum is "Oh let's get some perspective ... They only did this .. They only did that ..." How about YOU get some perspective and stop turning other people's leisure activity into aggressive conflict situations. Like the posts on that sex offender's memorial thread - "Oh he only did this he only did that and he's part of a halcyon time when the middle class weren't ruining football for us working class lads". Piss off you lunk head arseholes.

The player goaded Gasheads after conning a penalty and attempting to kick Parkes in the head twice. He knew Gasheads saw him do it and started to wink and smile at the inevitable and deserved abuse he was beginning to receive. Our lads were disgusted and pushed him into the net (before pen was taken and before officials bottled sending off their non-league mate) and the guy then thought it appropriate to lean over the wall at the front of the terrace and hit out at the player.
Stupidity in the extreme and he will deservedly get banned.

I was stood just behind the goal and this is what I saw:
Two players went down in the box, seemed a bit of a nothing challenge, and when they were on the floor their lad kicked out at ours. This then led to a bit of handbags between the players, some pushing and shoving, and they ended up in the net. The fans were obviously pretty incensed about the kick hence them all running to the front effing and jeffing. Then the lad who had originally kicked out gave a look to the crowd which was obviously intended to wind them up more but as far as I could tell, no gestures were made. At this point our friend in the blue shirt took it upon himself to climb onto the fence and punch the player, I couldn't tell if he made contact but was told he hit the player in the shoulder. He then went and stood at the back of the crowd whilst the stewards wandered up and down before eventually seeming to give himself up and he was led from the ground by stewards. From what I could tell the penalty wasn't actually awarded until after the punch incident.

its up to the home club to control the crowd imo there ground should not be allowed in the league full stop no crowd control or adequate perimeter fencing Thats one point that should be addressed, yes it was wrong and should not happen but in frustration and possible provocation it did, braintree should be approached as to perimeter safety because it seems non existent

The stewards were from Gillingham and seemed more interested in drinking tea.

The penalty was definitely awarded before the punch incident - the ref pointed straight to the spot even though it was never in a million years a foul.

My only contribution to the debate, is that I was listening to the match commentary on Radio Bristol and the commentator said immediately the altercation took place, that ''a Braintree players had been punched to the back of the head by a Rovers supporter.'' He then expanded by saying that the player was lying in the back of the goal, and was punched through the netting.
He then asked his co-presenter to confirm this, and he did so unreservedly.

i was there, there player a was assaulted by a bloke called barry in blue, not sure if he was punching or prodding the braintree guy with his fingers, funny but wonder who would win a fight if nobody was there? the 6ft footballer or the 5ft old man? later somebody threw a plastic coke bottle at there keeper but it missed. its obvious that anyday soon were heading for a big fine and/or a points deduction its a bit depressing really

I arrived late just before it happened and got a clear view. There were about three giving out verbal to a player stood in the nets who faced up to them in a cocky way. One then grabbed and punched hime through the goal net three or four times.
The atmosphere was pretty toxic all round after that - either that or just silent. I'm not sure I want to go to too many games if it's like that. In the end we are so bad the only thing left to do (if not constructively protesting) is to have a laugh and introduce some humour. Embrace it. Our players are clearly feeling the pressure - every criticism can be heard at these grounds it's so intimate. I saw Mildenhall look round a few times at specific fans directing abuse at Clarke. Seeing an opposition player being punched can only increase the fear factor. A stupid act that only makes a bad situation much worse.

Not condoning it but the cheeky little s**t had a look on his face that Iwould want to slap.
Hopefully I would have more self control.
My mate yesterday who is a season ticket holder, just started laughing when we hheard it on the radio. Where too now?

When contacted by the Post earlier today, the club released a statement, which read: "We will be investigating the incident that occurred at yesterday’s game between supporters and an opposition player. “While we understand that feelings are running high at the moment, there can be no excuse for this sort of behaviour, and we do not want people like this associated with Bristol Rovers. “We take issues like this very seriously, and we will take appropriate action on completion of the investigation." The incident, meanwhile, is understood to have been included in the referee’s report. From what I saw stood behind the goal, cox kicked out at our player, which obviously got the fans going, then turned to the fans and gave a cheeky smile, the bloke in blue tried his best to hit him, but pretty sure the net prevented any contact with the player. Regardless of any contact it's a ridiculous thing to do, in general our fans attitude to the current situation is ridiculous, just because were bristol rovers, it doesn't give us a god given right to beat teams like Braintree, and doesn't give us the right to think we are better than anyone in this league.
