A German bomber as manager. How apt 😅. I wish him all the success in the world

Not a great appointment. Read the reference he has just been given by BM's president - it is pretty damning. Also didn't see out his contract with his last three clubs.
It's sad to see - the England team should be managed by an Englishman, not least because neither Capello nor Eriksson were successes - the former was a flop and the latter achieved the bare minimum of QF appearances in major tournaments with England's so-called 'golden generation'
Foreign managers don't come better than Capello, and Tuchel is half the manager/coach that he is.
The last England team that I felt genuinely enthusiastic about was Hoddle's 1998 England team...the abilities and talents of the current squad have been inflated beyond measure, as the Euros and the most recent Greece game clearly showed.

Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough. Hoddle wasn't much more qualified when he got the job. However, I think he had a clear vision of the kind of football he wanted played, and the structures and arrangements he wanted put in place.
Carrick needs to manage at PL level, and succeed, before being considered for the job. He is however somebody who could built up for the role through sustained engagement and support by the FA (ho ho).
I didn't think that Hoddle should have lost his job for his ill-advised and clearly inappropriate remarks. People like Diane Abbott make stupid comments all the time, and are allowed to stay in their job when they apologise.

I think MC will get a bigger fc sooner or later.Once M'Boro can get a couple more good uns they'll go close promotion. A good footballer and I'm sure he knows what style he wants. I wonder what odds you could of got on Diane Abbott getting the job?🙂

DA with JC at 500/1 Just slightly lesser odds than Joe Barton at 600/1.

I find it very sad that in the year we said goodbye to Sven Goren Erickson and the great things that were said about him the xenophobic newspapers are having apoplexy about the appointment of a German manager especially the Mail. Seeing as Carsley got so much hate because he wouldn't sing the UK anthem, Tuchel better start learning it fast.

If I remember right, so did England women's team with a Dutch national in charge.

They have had 2 German managers:Otto Rehhagel from 2001-2010, they won the UEFA European Championship 2004 - Games 106 - 49% win rate Michael Skibbe from 2015-2018, 27 games in charge with a 40% win rate

Thomas spoke well about showing respect for the job.
He might do extremely well and deserves his chance.
England Uber Alles!

Let's face it he only has to attack more in the ko stages of tournaments and who can complain?
It seems it's what most of the football nation wanted.
Gareth Southgates style won't hurt in qualifying and finals group stages, the stats tell us it worked.
Let's just get at em more in the ko games.
More to it it than that, but that seems the general gist of things

I was hoping for Eddie Howe but obviously it wasn't to be, if we had to have a foreign manager Klopp would have been better but I guess they couldn't offer enough cash to make it worthwhile to come out of retirement.

Did you see what the Bayern Munich president said about him? Hardly a glowing reference.
He is pr*ckly, difficult, and doesn't handle criticism at all well, with this being an issue at PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.
Incidentally, Roberto Di Matteo also won the European Cup with Chelsea, and Avram Grant got them to the final. As a manager, it is probably more of an achievement to win the PL title than the European Cup.

Southgate to get us to the Quarter Finals with Tuchel then taking over for the knock out stages.

I just think we got the wrong German. The only cause for concern really is his fiery temperament, which is probably the reason he only got 18 months. The most interesting thing is his appointment of Anthony Barry as his assistant. He’s tailormade to replace him should he do a quick one. www.theguardian.com/football/2024/oct/17/anthony-barry-homegrown-thomas-tuchel-england-assistant?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
