Tait was actually decent, but was in the Grayson era of wasters, plus he was very light weight but his record was ok. I remember he scored this delightful chip in front of the Thatchers end in a mid weekend game, or Friday night game on Sky against Hull. I wouldn’t describe him as decent though I also remember the chipped goal which was a rare moment of quality from him. Some dreadful players in that era - Rob Quinn who would come second to a road cone in a midfield battle being about the worst. Bannon’s record better than I thought too though I remember him as being bot very good either What I meant was, compared to the rest in that era he actually did a job.The era of players we had post Holloway was dreadful up until Atkins built the squad that PT and LL took us up with.

We had a similar player in Ommel. In reality a very, very limited player but chipped in with a few goals. Like Tait, he showed that the club was happy to dwell in the lower reaches of D3. If it had ambitions to be any better, they wouldn't be playing. Interesting that the team that finished second bottom in the basement was actually substantially better, at least on paper, than the dross that followed. Some very decent players were still at the club, including Astafjevs and Foster. Atkins doesn't get the credit he deserves for stabilising the club and then establishing the basis for the PT/LL promotion.

Didn't we have 20 odd draws one season under him? You talking about when we finished 23rd above Halifax but didn't go down? God bless the Dunfords for what did for us, but if we had got relegated that season, then we probably wouldn't have a club today as they didn't have the finances to keep us a float if we had gone down. Compare that era and under Higgs ( even tho Higgs tried and cared, but he didn't have the funds to take us further) to our owners today and it's chalk and cheese. Got to give it to our owners, these are really trying to take us forward and putting the cash into it to do so.

Atkins however wasn't the person to take the club beyond this point, which is where PT and LL came in.... Yes, this was the first season we ever played in the basement, as I recall. The problem wasn't the quality of the player but the fact that their fitness and playing standards had deteriorated so far. McKeever, Bryant, Hogg, Challis...even Dwayne Plummer. Very decent players once. We wouldn't have a club without the Dunfords. The fact is that when Holloway was given money to spend after Roberts and Cureton left, he wasted it.

Since Paul Tait was top league goalscorer with 14 in the 2003-04 season, out of the 20 seasons thereafter, only 11 have scored more goals than him in the league.
Ian Atkins stats for BRFC are: Played 68, Won 21, Drew 26 & Lost 21 = 30.90 win ratio %

I would like to nominate Rene Howe as an addition to the sh*t striker list. Rene Howe - Season: 2011, Played: 12, Goals: 1 Rene Howe joined Bristol Rovers on loan and made his first team debut away to Walsall on 29th January when he came on as a substitute, replacing Jo Kuffour. Howe scored his first and only Rovers goal against Oldham Athletic on 19th February 2011. By 2nd March 2011, Howe had his loan spell with the club extended until 30th April 2011. Howe said he was not ruling out to join Bristol Rovers on a permanent basis in the near future.

A local lad that didn't live up to the hype that he came with was Josh Klien-Davis. JKD looked the part on and off the park but lacked the bravery required to make it as a 3rd tier striker - 10 appearances, 1 goal. Another candidate for the list?

Dear Rufus I wonder if you could change your logo to something a bit less nightmarish. It's a bit scary of an evening when I like to settle down to gas guzzler with my customary havana and eggflip, and my faithful pitbull nancy fairytwinkle by my side. That would be most courteous, unless of course it's a matter of vie ou mort. Meilleurs sentiments etc rh
