Is it me or do we not really sing - "I never felt more like singing the blues" as much now?
That's always been one of our main songs - 3rd now to Irene, and "Oh when the gas go marching in."
The latter btw is great, but I think is over sung at times.
Its sounds incredible,I saw a video yesterday of it being sung on Saturday from the Cambridge section of the South stand after we scored and it was loud.
But while we have sung it for years, lots of other clubs sing it also, mainly two , Southampton and Spurs.
I think we sing it too much at games myself.

Think that might be…..’if you’re Red you are dead, If you’re White, then we fight, if you are Blue we’ll look after you’….. always enjoyed, ‘Cheer up Danny Wilson’………Monkees….Daydream believer what am I doing at 4:31am on Saturday morning ha ha ha Can remember that being blasted at David? Speedie of Blackburn,( at the time) when at Twerton, Blackburn i think then we're on their resurgence towards the PL with Jack Haywood's investment going into Ewood Park...but the words that day were not of a pleasant mode ..i think a horse was involved somewhere!!! ...I will leave it there 🤭

Great result against such a fancied team, albeit bought at great expense.

Are you sure, it wasn`t Jermaine Defoal? Definitely Speedie.. as i was in the proximity of the Bath end ( narrow bit) when he was attacking there and that chant went up, several times.....brought a wry smile to one's face

Some cracking finds above. Slowly working my way through it.
Crazy how some obscure songs become terrace chants. As mentioned above, I guess adverts helped to popularise tunes. It's like listening to Classic FM, hearing 'Air on the G String', and thinking Hamlet Cigars before JS Bach.
The following have been updated on the OP to include new info. on the origins...
- < insert name of away venue >'s a sh*thole, I wanna go home / He's one of our own .......... 'The John B. Sails' - Bahamian Folk Song ... [later popularised as 'Sloop John B' - The Beach Boys].
- One nil to the Arsenal / One nil and you f***** it up / Oooh arrr! He's from Latvia! / You're sh*t and you know you are .......... 'Go West' - Village People ... (later The Pet Shop Boys).
- He's here, he's there, he's every-f******-where, Lockyer! Lockyer! (originally Larry Lloyd! But the tannoy asked fans to refrain, so it changed to He's here, he's there, we're not allowed to swear, Larry Lloyd! Larry Lloyd! .......... ' - 'The Quartermaster's Store' - English Folk Song.
- We are the Gas, We are the Gas, We are, we are, we are the Gas ... (originally 'We are the Blues' ... copied from 'We are the Shed') .......... 'Here Comes the Judge' - Pigmeat Markham (which featured uncredited Minnie Riperton backing vocals ... and spawned 'We are the Mods!' - from the film Quadrophenia

Added to the OP on page 1....
- You've only got one song (any others for this tune?? there must be loads) .......... 'Blue Moon' - Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.
- There's a star man playing on the right, he's name is Alex Rodman .......... 'Starman' - David Bowie.
- We're the blue and white army .......... 'Seven Nation Army' - The White Stripes.
- You are my Rovers .......... 'You Are My Sunshine' - American Standard (origin disputed).
- West Country, La! La! La! .......... The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) - [The Banana Splits Theme Tune].

- We all agree, that Bristol Rovers are magic / We all agree, that Roger Malone is a w***** .......... 'Cielito Lindo' - Mexican folk song ... [performed by many, including: Tito Guízar, Pedro Infante, Vicente Fernández, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Eartha Kitt, Menudo, Ana Gabriel, and José Feliciano] ... used in the TV advert for 'Frito Bandito' Tortilla Chips.

We love you, we love you, we love you, and where you play we follow, we follow, we follow; a-woo-a-woo-a-woooo! a-woo-a-woo-a-woooo! ... (thought to have started at FC St. Pauli) .......... 'I Will Follow Him' - Little Peggy March [composers: Franck Pourcel, Paul Mauriat, Arthur Altman, Norman Gimbel] ... originally an instrumental 'Chariot' - Franck Pourcel ... featured in the 1992 film Sister Act.
This one is bonkers!
It's fairly recent addition to the repertoire of the singing section of UK football terraces, but comes from a song from 1963 that didn't chart in the UK!
Initially the tune was a 1961 instrumental. 'Chariot' - Franck Pourcel:
Lyrics were added and a new version, with a new title, was released in 1963. But it didn't chart in the UK. However, it did reach No.6 in the West German Hit Parade, so maybe that's how it hit the terraces, as it was said to have been started by the supporters of FC St. Pauli (BTW I spotted someone wearing one of their dark brown and light brown quartered shirts at The Mem on Saturday). 'I Will Follow Him' - Little Peggy March:
So did it become a football chant from the Peggy March version? Or was it the Petula Clark version? (doubtful as that was French language). Or was it because it featured in the 1992 film Sister Act?
p.s. never seen Sister Act film, nor the stage production.

We've got Steve Elliott, he's f******* brilliant / We've got our Rovers back / Is this a library .......... 'La Donna è Mobile' - Giuseppe Verdi (from the 1851 opera 'Rigoletto').
Used in advertising for Doritos tortilla chips and Leggo’s tomato sauce, and the soundtrack for the Grand Theft Auto computer game.

There may have been an earlier version: "We all follow the Rovers, over land and sea (and C*ty!). We all follow the Ro-vers, on to victory! ... altogether now" [repeat to fade]

To Rule Britannia Ruel Sotiriou, Sotiriou rules the pitch, Rovers never, never, never shall be s**t. Repeat. Ruel Sotiriou, Sotiriou rules the pitch, Rovers never, never, never shall be s**t.
Would that result in a club statement?
And presuming surely he will score at least 1 for us. He’s already had his fair share of cheese on toast this season.

Sotiriou rules the box, he will never, never, never lose his socks.

But football chanting needs a bit of chutzpah and aggression to them, with an element of denying reality itself for the cause, like my original has. The default chant for every club is “we are the greatest team the world have ever seen” or variations of it.

Allez, Allez, Allez ... ... (originally 'Un giorno all'improvviso' (one sudden day) in Italy) .......... 'L'estate Sta Finendo' - Righeira (1985) ... turned into football chant 'Un giorno all'improvviso' ('one sudden day' - the opening line) started by fans of L'Aquila Calcio 1927 in the early 2010s ... spread to major Italian clubs ... picked up by Liverpool fans, around 2016, during European games.
An example of a continental chant, that spread from one country to others in Europe, then into the UK via Liverpool's European Cup games. Said to have started in L'Aquila, after the duo 'Righeira' (who appear to be Italy's version of Jedward) performed the song in a concert in the city, after an earthquake in 2009.
Righeira - 'L'estate Sta Finendo':

I am sure there was a song to the tune of the Marine Hymn (from the halls of Montezuma) I cant remember all the words but I think it was something like 'to hell with Aston Villa,Liverpool and Man city,we're going to fight fight fight for the blue and white until we win the football league'....hmm a bit hopeful that one.
Also the 'hit him on the head with a baseball bat' chant ,the Ramones 'Beat on the brat'.
